Trump: Trans Soldiers now barred from the military entirely

Well, you're here now. So as a Republican, do you have a defense for this?

I don't support or understand this ban in the slightest. I don't know any other fellow repubs who ever even raised this as an issue. I think if someone wants to serve our country, we shouldn't be discouraging them in any way.

I'm not a "Trumpist" but as a Republican most of us don't post much as we're likely to be shouted right out of these threads.

The leader of your party just banned an entire group of people from the military

Take a stand, condemn your party or accept being shouted at for being a bigot. Your choice

Maybe Ya'll right but this is just so surreal to see him tweet out a life changing policy like that, trying to make sense of it and then attacking someone who was the first to be loyal to him!

This shouldn't be surreal at this point, really. It's how he's operated this entire time. During the election he was tweeting at 3AM for people to go watch someone's sex tape. He attacked a gold star family relentlessly. He fired the guy that won him the goddamned election and then claimed it was because he was too mean to Clinton. He attacks the free press by saying the leaks are real and the news is fake. None of what he does is logical at all and it never has been. His entire platform was life-changing and mind-numbingly dumb fucking policies (ban Muslims until we can figure out what the hell is going on, build the wall, etc).

This.

I value my Gaf account and don't want to be banned anymore than I already have over politics. On Gaf, I know my POV isn't popular and will be called racist/homophobe etc.

I just lurk now and laugh at some of the posts some folks type up. Mostly stick to Gaming Discussion.

If you're a bigot you will be called a bigot.

Gee, I wonder why. What is it about these threads that might get you shouted out? Care to state what your opinion on this is?

So don't crucify me for this, as I don't agree with the decision, but could there be an actual logistical reason for this? .

not as how you posted

There does not appear to be any justifiable reason to continue the military's policy of discrimination against transgender service members," Mr. Harrison added. ”The annual cost of implementing the policy change is about how much the U.S. spends on operations in Afghanistan every hour. The cost of one F-35 could pay for about 30 years' worth of transgender benefits."

this is entirely, 100% political.

I also wonder how this might affect students who are in ROTC programs in colleges. I guess they haven't technically enlisted until after they graduate? Really not sure.

If, for instance, you need insulin regularly, you most likely aren't going to be allowed into the military, because what if you are stuck in a combat zone and can't get it?

Couldn't the same line of thought apply to transgender people who need a regular supply of hormone drugs?

I don't know, maybe I'm wrong. Still think if you want to serve and you have no physical defects then you should be allowed to no matter what.
The same excuse was used against women having their period and it doesn't hold water.

Will 'THE MAVERICK' stand up for his fellow soldiers in uniform?

Will he fuck.

McCain was the one who led the GOP fightback against the repeal of DADT and letting LGBT serve in the military.

It would actually be more plausible if this was what McCain requested in exchange for travelling to DC yesterday.

I do not find this to be legal, since I assume the SC would strike this down.

I also do not see how this is a tactic for the GOP because trans rights has been a winning issue for the Dems.

As an aside, I think Trump is losing his mind.

The total dollar amount saved for kicking transgender individuals out of the military is $5.6 million.

You're right but the rate of acceleration is crazy. From banning trans to attacking his AG and within hours.

You know exactly why they raised this ban when your party is filled with hateful bigots who have tormented the lgbt community for decades

If the bigoted shoe fits... I noticed you didn't say you don't agree with Trump here...

"Politics."

People like you hand wave life-changing consequences and discrimination against your fellow citizens as "just politics" so you can feel better about your bigotry.

It's now incredibly obvious that Trump doesn't care about the actual job of being President and vastly prefers his old life.

I strongly doubt that he wants to be re-elected, though his ego in the moment will push him to try and win again.

I think Trump has cleaved at a deeper culture war then ever with this comment... and that's saying something for Trump.

The division isn't actually about trans identity acceptance: It's about whether one's personal identity interferes with military service.

I don't think this will cleave along predictable lines. His troglodyte base will love it, but even some conservatives will think "WTF? really?"

You would only be called racist or homophobic if you said racist or homophobic things.

Not every trans person is taking hormone drugs.

Yea, but Trump didn't even bother with the medical benefits themselves... he wait straight to banning PEOPLE. He bypassed the whole medical services conversation altogether.

Had he focused on the medical stuff, he could have at least opened a debate on who should be responsible for paying their own gender-switch related medicines and services.

But, he skipped right over all that and just said Fuck It - Just ban the Trans people outright.

That is completely unconstitutional.

You can be too broken to continue to serve. At that point, you're usually medically retired (with health care and a pension and disability payments). You can also be too broken to join in the first place.

There is no logistical reason for this. People with high blood pressure serve. People with AIDS serve (though it depends on viral load, I think). People with low testosterone serve. Fucking limbless soldiers serve.

This is just unmitigated fuckery from a shameless bigot.

Fuck that piece of shit.

It must eat him up inside that people he despises have the courage to enlist when he is a coward that went out of his way to dodge the draft.
Trump doesn't care. He's a selfish piece of shit. This is the same guy who went after a goldstar family. He doesn't give a shit about the military or military families.

I never said it was a game, I meant that I've agreed with a lot of his point of view but eventually there is a tipping point where you just turn and wonder what his angle is. .

No offense, but you sound ignorant as fuck. But hey, at least you're finally turning a corner. Maybe.

So what happens to trans already in the military? Or haven't yet been diagnosed? Just gonna get kicked out? Hide themselves causing further mental anguish

You fuck piece of shit

If you're ashamed to defend the Oompa Loompa, maybe you should rethink why you support him and his party.

And Piss off with that "I'm not a Trumpist I'm a Republican" garbage. Trump is everything the GOP stands for. He is the perfect model of Republican corruption and "values". He is everything you stand for.

And you're embarrassed to defend him.

Not really, this wasn't an issue on anyone's agenda that I've ever seen so I have no clue what prompted this reversal. I assume at this point Trump's just looking for things he can easily undo from the Obama era just out of spite.

No, there is not. Other countries allow transgender people to serve and there has been zero difficulties resulting from it.

"Ugh, those assholes in Washington are stopping him from fixing this country. Drain the swamp!"

Most people who still support him just want a dictator and are disappointed that we have a system of government preventing that.
To them he's not a dictator but a benevolent leader that's giving them precisely what they want. Regardless of what means the power is utilized, to them, as long as it's going their way they don't care.

"The Swamp" in their eyes was a system of rules and people that hindered them from being bigots in policy. Not beuracracy. As always, it boils down to them only caring about the rules our government was founded on when it benefits them.

It's why Constitional Purists are usually full of shit. They love it when it can be used to obstruct things they don't like. But will happily throw that shit out the window when they can get what they want.

That's because you and your ilk have terribly shitty views of the world and are afraid of being rightfully shamed. As much as I hate lambasting on this forum, if anyone deserves it, it's people who sympathize with Trump's or his constituent's views, which I am assuming you do since you are so reluctant to share them.
