Trump: Trans Soldiers now barred from the military entirely

When support is low, mention God. That sure will rally the voters.

Just when I thought the guy couldn't surprise me any more, this comes along and just blows my mind once again. Of course the first thing I thought of is that he's doing this to use the transgender community in some fashion to once again bash Obamacare.

He doesn't have to justify it. The president has pretty broad powers with regards to the military. It's literally one of his primary jobs as commander in chief

He does, but he can't do anything that violates the Constitution (for example, he can't make a rule saying only Christians can serve in the military).

I fully expect to see this challenged using the Due Process clause of the 14th Amendment. It would be one thing if transgender people weren't allowed to openly serve until the review that the DoD was doing was completed.

The Due Process clause was one thing that was used to get the Defense of Marriage Act overturned.

And could people with bigoted views please stop ending their bigoted statements with "just an opinion though!"

No, sometimes opinions are stupid and factually incorrect.
And have an adverse effect on people's lives is the most important part if actually considered for policy.

Oh I agree with you entirely. I wouldnt mind one bit if every crooked piece of shit in DC suddenly died right this minute and we had to hold a nationwide re-election. My point was that this taking sides garbage, red vs blue, us vs them, the "enlightened" democract against the wicked "inbred" republican garbage is WHY we are dealing with this moron.

Republican voters repeatedly choose to elect cruel, hateful people who, once elected, do everything to hurt everyone they possibly can, including their own constituents. Democrats aren't responsible for Republicans' choices. It's not the Democrats' fault that the two party choices are literally good and evil.

The people hating on republicans arent just hating on DC. They are shitting on every gullible working stiff in america who fell for Trump's fucking charade. And one reason some people fell for it is BECAUSE of getting shit on by "the dems". When you have a candidate call balf the country a "basket of deplorables", you are going to make enemies who will vote in the devil himself just to go against your "team".

You're implying that the people who voted for Trump were too stupid to know what they were going to get, that they're so sheltered that they've never encountered con-artists before, or that they know nothing about Republican policies in general. That's paternalistic and insulting.

Can someone explain what he means by 'extra cost' in medical care?
Transgender people have specific medical needs. Not all of them, but many do require medical treatments and prescriptions beyond what cis soldiers do. The total extra spending would amount to about $6million per year, about .001% of the military's annual health care spending.

I have to believe some (or maybe many) of Trump's supporters have transgender people within their family, possibly their own children. Will this finally change some of their minds or will this be, yet again, something they'll just dismiss and choose to ignore?

Showers..

On the battlefield? Even then, if they can hold t heir own on the battlefield without losing effectiveness, there shouldn't be a problem -- same as women becoming infantry. I'm not in favor of dumbing down requirements for anyone to join infantry, but that's ALSO mostly a nonissue...because the military is more than just infantry. Much more, actually.

Brexit.

Dude, it's not like we're not ashamed of having this piece of shit scumbag as our pres. He didn't win the majority vote. Don't act holier than thou.
Why do people always bring this up? He said "America." He didn't say "you and you and you and you" as he pointed his finger at all the Gaf members.

Gordon was explaining that other guy's problem with trans service members.

I really, truly believe I could be held at gunpoint, at risk of life if I refuse to, and still have no reason whatsoever to even consider saluting the flag

Is this all it really took

To get 49% of the country to support you?

No ... you went all in with a Foreign nation too.... and everyone is so confused they dont know what to believe anymore

I can't believe he's trying to pin this on healthcare costs for trans people in the middle of a huge debate about the affordability and access of healthcare and the government's role in both of those aspects. Especially when his party's ideas on the subject are horribly unpopular.
Thats the cop out hin and his basse use to deflect that they are just Bigot, in this very thread you saw that same disgusting shit.

So, what....Did Trump get a threatening call from Tony Perkins or some other influential Christian right leader, threatening to renounce their support for Trump?

These people aren''t gullible they've been voting for what they wanted ever since the Civil Rights Act passed, to destroy the lives of minorities even if it negatively affects them too.

Not realizing that makes you the gullible one.

Some of them, sure. Definitely.

Here we go. I am going to open myself up to a firestorm of hate from the Rep haters here, but here we go.

I consider myself a left of center moderate, with libertarian leanings. I fucking despised Trump. But I didnt vote because I didnt like Hilary either, and I chose not to choose between the lesser of two evils. However, I live in Texas, so my vote was largely irrelevant. Texas was going for Trump.

Now for the shitty part....

99% of my family are republicans. Including my highly educated parents. They are not racist. They are not bigoted. My sister is a lesbian and they love her dearly. So before I say anything else, FUCK ANYONE that acuses my family of voting for Trump because of being racist or bigoted.

My family, INCLUDING MY LESBIAN SISTER, almost all voted for Trump. They did it because they were gullible, bought into his charade, his cavalcade of lies. My sister was going to vote Hilary until she heard the deplorables comment. That single statement swung her vote to a man she otherwise wouldnt have voted for.

I get so goddamn sick and tired of this us vs them shit and everyone inthese threads accusing ALL republicans of the despicable nature that is so obvious in Trump, and by turning a blind eye to his actions, the rest of the Reps in washington.

So yes, fuck republican politicians. Fuck any of the racist bigoted republicans who voted for Trump for those reasons. But I draw the line there.

And people are so caught up in supporting their goddamn team, that they refuse to accept this reality. They refuse to accept the fact that there are good, hard working, loving, non racist, non bigoted republicans out there like my family that voted for this incompentent, blubbering, bigoted orange toad simply because they were so short sighted and gullible that they believed the lies of his that they cherry picked and chose to focus on, blind to the rest of what was so obvious about him to me and most other neutrals/democrats.

Yes my statement of fuck both sides is probably taking this long-winded response too far in the other direction, and obfuscating the fact that the subject matter at hand is most definitely tied to the evils of the republican party. But I do hate both sides, insofar as I hate the fact that we have "sides" at all.

I have taken some time to thoughtfully type this up instead of outright dismissing you, so I'd appreciate it if you paused and read it for a moment.

One thing you may be missing is that HUMANS do the "us vs them" thing. It doesn't happen because of political parties. Why do you think political parties are created in the first place? Even if you change a system, you're still going to have evil people. You're still going to have people who hate blacks, who hate gay people, who hate trans people, who hate Jews, who hate Mexicans, who hate anyone remotely different than them. You're still going to have psychopaths who want to kill people and are only held back because it's inconvenient, or law enforcement still sort of works.
.

Yep, and human nature sucks. I did read your post. I think I agree with a lot of what you say. My feelings on the matter at hand are covered above. I will probably step back from this thread because I am sure my family is about to be shit on and I dont feel like getting banned defending them.
