Unemployment is low. Stocks, while having an occasional dip, have been on the rise. Housing market is crazy good. Most middle class have a health care plan through their job. We're not having any food shortages. Many people just don't care about politics, and don't have empathy for folks that they don't see or interact with. If I'm able to still go to work, get paid, go have a drink, get laid, and basically enjoy myself, the fuck do I care about some transgender being able to get in the army? Hell, he's probably doing that guy/girl a favor! I'm not poor, and got health care, so why do I bother about this whole Obamacare bullshit? I follow the law, and don't do dumb shit if I ever get pulled over, so why worry about cops? My kid goes to a decent school, so no need to worry myself over all this mess about educational vouchers and shit.

He'd be able to make America great, if it wasn't for you meddling kids...

Sanders was just asked to explain the "disruption" Trump was worried about, and how that applies to other countries like Israel, the UK and others, but she just gave the same boilerplate non-answer.

Yep. You couldn't serve in the military if you were transgender or opening gay. If someone in the military found out that you were gay, you would be discharged (that's what Don't Ask, Don't Tell was).

DADT was overturned back in 2010, and the transgender ban was overturned last year, and the DoD was in the process of implementing a policy change. During that time, they were letting transgender people serve openly and giving training to troops about it.

Who knows what's going to happen now?

Also, he's trying to secure funding for his stupid wall, so he's kissing the ass of Republican's who are opposed to transgender people serving.

When looking up statistics online I found this:
As far as future estimates, the study predicted that about 40-190 military personnel would seek gender transition per year, 30-140 would seek hormone therapy per year and 25-130 would seek actual surgical treatment a year.

If the change was made due to concerns over having to pay for surgeries it does not seem like that would be too expensive (as others have already outlined in this thread also).

I get so goddamn sick and tired of this us vs them shit and everyone inthese threads accusing ALL republicans of the despicable nature that is so obvious in Trump, and by turning a blind eye to his actions, the rest of the Reps in washington.

So yes, fuck republican politicians. Fuck any of the racist bigoted republicans who voted for Trump for those reasons. But I draw the line there.

And people are so caught up in supporting their goddamn team, that they refuse to accept this reality. They refuse to accept the fact that there are good, hard working, loving, non racist, non bigoted republicans out there like my family that voted for this incompentent, blubbering, bigoted orange toad simply because they were so short sighted and gullible that they believed the lies of his that they cherry picked and chose to focus on, blind to the rest of what was so obvious about him to me and most other neutrals/democrats.

I read all of what you posted, I appreciate you taking the time to post and open up to us.

But nothing about what you said absolves your family from racism or bigotry.

I have no doubt that your family will protect your own. I'm sure they truly do love your sister. But voting for people who impose policies that hurt LGBTQ people regardless of wether or not they support your sister does make them bigoted whether you like that or not.

If they vote in favor of people who seek to hurt LGBTQ rights but love your sister? That just means they support your sister and seek to hurt LGBTQ rights. Plain and simple.

People have a tendency to get mad when their biases are challenged, as I'm sure you are now given your "fuck those who say..." comment. They also have a tendency to get mad when they, or people they love and view as objective are called out as hypocritical.

But you're going to have to take a step back and realize that wether you want it to be true or not? You and they going to have to live with that title as long as you keep supporting people who embrace that ideology harder than you do.

It has nothing really to do with money, the conservative base is easily riled up about trans rights and its going to be extremely effective in 2020. There is going to be a lot of build up about this year, with Texas voting today on a bathroom bill I think and a few lawsuits winding their way towards the supreme court on whether trans are protected under Title VII (currently not) and whether Title IX (equal access for women in college) applies to trans.

Democrats either fully support trans rights, driving away a lot of moderate midwest voters, or they sorta ignore the whole thing driving away a lot of their own liberal voters (neogaf) in disgust at their cowardice. Either way republicans don't have much to lose, since all the people who fully support trans rights would never vote republican. If republicans also completely support gay rights/marriage but throw trans under the bus, it will possibly fracture the LGBTQ alliance (according to republican thinking, anyways) with LGB on one side and T on the other.

I'd say it will also be a strong wedge issue for 2018 but I'm not really sure, since on a congressional district by district basis its not really something that will come up a lot, I think? Most districts are heavily gerrymandered at this point to be fairly left or right.

Also as FYI, i know plenty of Republicans (friends and coworkers) who drawn the line during the Campaign, and preferred to vote Hillary or to not vote at all because they saw this shit coming, are those the good, hard working, loving, non racist, non bigoted republicans you are refereeing to? because they do exist.

At a certain point, people have to take responsibility for their beliefs and their actions. You say your family voted for him because they were gullible and short sighted. Does this mean they regret voting for him now? Do they wish they voted for Hillary instead?
Do they wish he would be removed from office? Would they vote for a democrat against him in 2020? Would they vote for democrats in 2018 to help possibly impeach him?

If the answer to most of those questions is "No" then they are still complicit in his behavior. How can they not be bigots and racist if they still support a President which is? What do they value that is more important than treating people equally?

I served in the us military during three periods: DADT, the transition between allowing gays and transgender people to openly serve, and the New Normal of gays and transgender people openly serving.

Fuck every last Republican who is in support of this shit. Including posters on this board. These people have sacrificed just as much as anyone else in the military. Some did it while they were forced under specific and direct threat that if they ever revealed who they truly were they would be summarily deemed unfit to serve any further an discharged. People who wanted nothing more than to serve their country openly and freely. Those motherfuckers are far more brave and openly show more courage in their pinky then any fat pasty ass Republican who never served.

One of the best medics I knew when I was in was kicked out because she mistakenly, in a moment of needing comfort and emotional support told the wrong person that she was transgender in the era of DADT. That bigot told another bigot, and that bigot made sure it went up the chain until she was left with nothing and thrown out. She wound up fucking prostituting herself afterwards just to survive.

Who the fuck is someone like Trump, a draft dodger, able to tell someone that they can't give back to this country? Fuck you you miserable orange piece of shit. You don't care about our military, you don't care about our citizens, you probably barely even care about your family (but you will still throw them under the bus when it comes time to save your own skin, if you don't die of a cholesterol problem before it comes to that).

So again I say fuck anybody who is ok with this. Fuck any neogaf poster, fuck any red Piller, and fuck and Republican living who it's ok with this.

You dont get to be absolved of voting for this shitstain because you are a nice person lesbian or not. Just because you are a dumbass doesn't mean you get to hurt people and not get called on it. This is why this kind of hatred spreads in the first place because supposedly good people don't call others out on their bigotry and ignorance and I don't give a fuck if they are family or not. My family is most homophobic as shit but you won't see me making excuses for that nonsense no matter how nice they are
