PLAYERUNKNOWNS BATTLEGROUNDS Early Access Thread: This Is Battle Royale

Just finished my first couple of games, got #20 with no kills, no clue what I was doing.

Second game I got more comfortable, got 3 headshots with the VSS then got sniped from out of nowhere while making a run through a forest.

This game is amazing.

How many "hit" points did you get after? A full 20 is full health
Not quite true, I thought it was 20 hit points too, until I did over 30 hit points to one enemy that ran away.
Usually it is 20 hit points, but it seems to depend on what gun you are using.
Well that's what reddit/google told me, no one really knows how hit points actually work.

I had a weird bug yesterday where I couldn't pop healing items (this came up twice in one game) and couldn't revive. The first time I couldn't heal was early in the game then I forgot about it and was able to heal for most of the game but then at the end I was 1hp and needed to also revive my friend and I could neither heal nor revive. A minute or two later though I was able to heal again. It was not fun.

Nah, he was running on the field when I was shooting him. He wasn't even boosted, because he run away from me soon as he landed (I got m16 first). He didn't have any time to pick up items.

It could be I accidentally hit some other enemy when I was aiming this fellow, or maybe it was some weird desyncing, dunno.

The only reason other than connection issues you would not pick it up is if you were running while looting, which is being fixed tomorrow.

The game isn't perfect, but if people are giving you playstyle advice and your response is to shout that it's impossible, that's purely a mindset problem.

I can only go by my experience. I've tried both the highly contested areas (your recommendation) and the middle of nowhere drops. One is glitchy and full of death, the other is slow paced and will probably get you killed after 20 mins of looting and running across a field to get to the circle

Are they really going to get rid of free crates? Like there will be no way to earn them at all?

That's always been the plan IIRC. I bought the game when it first went into early access and I recall them openly saying that once early access ends, there will be paid crates. Lots of people (or well, Reddit) are raging, but it seems silly to me. The Aug. 3rd update will have the first paid crate which is mainly to test it and fund the upcoming invitational tournament. They're also releasing two free crates at the same time. The plan is.. use BP to buy crates, but you need to buy keys to open them for $2.50. Bluehole's spin on it is, you can also sell crates on the Steam marketplace to earn money on Steam to buy keys without ever spending your own money. So think H1Z1 or CS:GO. Nothing new.

What do you mean? The game doesn't show me hit numbers. Is it supposed to?

One thing I've learned from streamers like Grimmmz that has improved my gameplay greatly is that when you and an enemy both see each other, just go ahead and zoom and start firing. It doesn't matter if you miss those first couple of shots because you'll be adjusting and getting used to the recoil pattern quicker than the enemy, which will mean you'll hit shots faster than the enemy, which will put him/her in hitpunch.

If you stop and try to align your aim before firing or are otherwise indecisive you're going to lose that fight.

I was just talking about the problem I have with Doc, but I saw this pop up on reddit and goddammit it's hilarious

https://clips.twitch.tv/ConsiderateAlertRutabagaMikeHogu

I wish he made it easier to not want to watch his stream

He is great at times. I find him a lot more chilled when he streams with Viss and plays more seriously.

When trying to snipe someone I kept hitting the window frame/bars no matter what position I was in.

I'm never playing this game again.

Hold the Shift key to hold your breath and steady your aim while sniping.

Doc, Summit1g, Lirik, and shroud playing squads now Doc and Summit hate each other

I watched a bit of that and man, Summit is just too arrogant and insufferable for me. I can't stand people with his high and mighty attitude. It's definitely a battle of the egos between him and the Doc. The Doc was ripping him hard though which was great.

Easily one of the most unrewarding games you can play. I have spent countless matches getting some of the best loot in the game and encountering NO ONE only to get gunned down by some cock sucking piece of shit camper from who the fuck knows where. 20 minutes down the fucking drain.

This is easy fixed. Every round drop at the school near Rozhok or the military base on the island. Good luck surviving more than a minute.

Also, how do you know the "cock sucking piece of shit camper" actually was camping if you couldn't see them? Maybe they were making their way into the circle just like you, spotted you and sniped your arse. I mean you did encounter someone, they just spotted you first.

What do you mean? The game doesn't show me hit numbers. Is it supposed to?

It shows the numbers at the end of the game when you die(or win hopefully).

Got done with a game where my teammate died in duos and I almost pulled it off. Game started out with me killing a team and then quickly sniping another team with a Scar minutes later.

While holding up in a town, we noticed a team in our building and got ready to take them in when my teammate hit his touchpad and shot me in the back. As he scrambled to get me up, a guy came for us and killed him as I was revived and I managed to kill him.

His friend ran around the back, so I ran to the roof, jumped and got into a frantic smg fight where I missed most of my shots, but still won it. The zone came down on a mountain close to my location, and I was the first there, so naturally I was beset on all sides. Using a rock formation I managed to maneuver out of fire and take down another team.

Unfortunately at this point a motorcycle leaped on to the mountain, and while I managed to kill the driver, it crushed me in the end with only 7 people left. 10/10, this game is truly the Battle Royale game I always wanted.

Having the best loot is only a small part of the game and that's what makes it so good.

Last night I just got a shotgun (the one with 2 shells) and 10 extra shells. I camped (I know some of you will just blast and detest this) on a roof at a corner leaving a KAR98 in sight when you enter through the door to the roof. It sure is tempting..

I killed a total of 6 people who were coming up and with all the loot boxes on the roof, people still didn't check the corners. I got a shit ton of loot from the bodies .. only proving, looting houses are overrated sometimes.

I played a bunch of solo games last night, was within top 10 each game but couldnt get it done. Worst one was top 2 in a very small circle and i just could not find the other player ended up getting shot from god knows where. I guess he chugged some pain killers or something and was outside the circle only, thing i can think of.

I havent had a win in over 70 hours.

Winner Winner Chicken Dinner!! First win earlier today and it was so exciting. I had been on a hill hiding, figuring high ground might be a benefit. Turned out the circle was closing around that hill. Down to me and the last guy. Ran down the hill, he ran from behind a tree. Got behind a rock, switched to a shotgun and fired. What a rush!

Been playing for a week and a half and got ~6 chicken dinners.

4 of them have largely come about due to mass spamming of smoke grenades to get me out of a jam.

People really seem to sleep on smokes in this game and get pinned down as a result. I pick up every single one I can find and use them liberally.

Got my 2nd random squad dinner! But my game performance have been tanking so bad recently. Full stop hitches and door shenanigans. Also does auto-run not work at all for anyone else?? Default = and rebinding it does nothing for me. Laptop problems perhaps?

My teammate watched a dunkey video where he apparently holds up a dude for his pants.

South Pochinki, a few minutes after drop. Gunshots from the northern side of town, sounds like two squads duking it out. My teammate and I swing from the southern part of town and see a player crouch behind a building just as the gunshots stop. I toss a nade, downing him. My teammate tosses another nade. Then I move up the flank to try to confirm or frag his teammate, but there's no one there. The door to the building is closed, so I assume that they fled inside.

My teammate covering the front door, I spend a few seconds opening the back door and trying to bait them to come downstairs. They don't take it. After a minute or so, I hear a voice.

(Inside the parentheses, italics are me, normal is my teammate)

"I heeeeaaaar you."

"Hey there! (They're camping on the second floor)" I say in my friendliest voice.

"You naded me while I was reviving my teammate. (We're going to pick a fight?)"

"Oh, that was my teammate. He says he's sorry. (Yeah, I've got the window)"

"Oh, all right then. How was your day today?"

"Eh, fine. Not a great PUBG day. (Ask him for his pants)"

"Same here, bad luck all day. (Uh, sure)"

"I've got a request: Give me your pants."

"Um."

A pause.

"Roger that."

"If you come out the front door and drop your pants, we'll let you live. But if you bring a weapon, we shoot you dead."

"I'm dropping all of my stuff right now. You just want the pants, right? (Tell him 'I never want to see you again' if you take his pants)"

"Just the pants. Hurry up."

The door opens, and he walks out. He's unarmed. Baseball cap, white padded jacket, level 1 backpack, and most importantly: a pair of blue jeans.

"I just drop it here, right?"

"Yeah."

I see the pants drop. I walk over, open my menu, swap pants, and sprint south over to where my teammate is.

"I never wanna see you again."

Over our cackling, we hear a voice.

"Did I just get mugged?"

Edit:

If anyone was wondering about the outcome, we didn't win. We barely made it to the fourth circle when another duo ran up and killed us.

I can confirm that the attackers were wearing pants.

Shot a guy with the S686 point blank and didn't kill him. He shot me with the S1897 and killed me. The game even showed the blood splatter when I shot him. Makes no sense. At that range the S686 is a OHK.

Did you fire at the same time? The game has a built in trade proection to avoid 2 people killing each other at the same time. So if his shot had an earlier timestamp than yours it might have ignored part of the damage to prevent trading. Did he have armour (even lvl 1 reduces damage by 30%, lvl 2 40% and lvl 3 55%)? Helmet? limbshots reduce damage a lot. There are many reasons why a shotgun is not a guaranteed OHK

That's actually my problem with it. I feel like it dumps bullets too quickly, I can never get a handle on it's spray before I run out and the person I was shooting is still alive.

I'll almost always take the UMP or Vector above the Uzi if I can help it.

Vector is even worse than the uzi at vomiting bullets and has a smaller mag? :p

Uzi is actually surprisingly accurate even without a stock and compensator if you use ironsights and burst 3-5 bullets. I have gotten many 30-40m kills with it.

It's horrifically unoptimized

Its really not, I have a i5 4670k without any OC at all and a 1080 so basically top of the line gpu but hardly top of the line cpu and it runs really well. Easily 60-80 fps and up to 100 when indoors at 1440p (in fullscreen). But it really needs full access to the CPU and changing to proper fullscreen helped my frametimings a lot it feels a lot more smooth now.

Most settings on high/ultra except post processing and shadows.

Not quite true, I thought it was 20 hit points too, until I did over 30 hit points to one enemy that ran away.
Usually it is 20 hit points, but it seems to depend on what gun you are using.
Well that's what reddit/google told me, no one really knows how hit points actually work.

It depends on the game mode, in solo play 20 hitpoints = 100 damage, in duos 15 hitpoints = 100 damage, in squad 10 hitpoints = 100 damage. One of the biggest reasons why solos "pay more" beacause you get 20 hitpoints and 20 killpoints for killing someone from full health.

Been playing for a week and a half and got ~6 chicken dinners.

4 of them have largely come about due to mass spamming of smoke grenades to get me out of a jam.

People really seem to sleep on smokes in this game and get pinned down as a result. I pick up every single one I can find and use them liberally.

Yeah a lot of the "pro" streamers never pick them up and a lot of the better players I play with never pick them up while I almost always carry 2-4 of them. They do take a lot of space though so they will slow down looting a lot when looting enemy boxes which is why most people don't take them. But I have gotten wins purely because of the smoke or revived many teammates because I had smokes so I will always bring a few. The important part to know is that they are clientside so they never render the same way for people and what they cover is VERY dependant on how they landed beacuse the smoke basically moves int he direction the top of the smoke grenade is facing. So if it lands facing right the smoke is gonna drift right, if it lands facing up its just gonna drift up in the air. So you can never rely on exactly what the smoke covers (which is why you should always throw a couple).

So drop in highly contested areas and hope to the gods that the game doesn't hiccup (as it normally does)? Doesn't seem to be a good strategy.

Better yet, I can get to some guns before anyone else only to mash the F key and not pick the fucking thing up.

Edit: just died again because someone rubberbanded in front of me with a shotgun. This game is not playing the same at all. I was getting chicken dinners several times a day and now I can't make it past 10 minutes

There are more choices than "drop in the middle of everyone" and "drop on a lonely farm". Rozhok for example is often not that hot, but small enough so you can keep track of the enemies while looting (this is the really important part), Severny is similar as a small village with usually a few people dropping on it. The hospital in Georgopol is also great because its small has a lot of loot and will often have a couple of people.

Basically pick a spot and drop there over and over so you learn the layout, where the loot is and where the good houses with overview are and learn those spots. Also if you drop on the roof of a house with other people and don't get a gun right away just jump off and take the bottom floor (great advice for School, hospital and other large buildings and hotzones) that way you have a bit more time in getting a weapon and you can surprise people who just had a fight on the roof.

Just changing from lonely farms to dropping into School or Military base is just gonna get you murdered by people who know where to get shit or by lagg because its too busy. Those places are also too busy to really keep track of the enemies.

Also there is skill based matching is if you got "chicken dinners several times a day" you will be moving into harder brackets pretty fast...

Grimmz pointed out that the update might have messed up the sights. If you look down the sight while crouching and then stand up it pivots and shifts from the left and then to the right. It really throws you off.

Better get used to it. This game is 99% looting.

You're playing this game wrong, son.

This game is
- 30% looting
- 60% stalking and hunting unaware prey (the compulsive looters like you)
- 10% trying to survive the <10 player left circle while your heart is pounding

It's freaking great.

After about 150 hours I am still awful with firing most of the guns. I really wish there was an easy to access mode where I could just go for an hour a week and shoot other players in close proximity to get used to firing most of them.

Yeah, I do wish there was a firing range just for testing out stuff like my ideal sensitivity settings.

Finally bit the bullet and picked this up the other day. Gameplay is addicting, somehow played for 12 hours in two days! Decided I'm not going to play again until the first person mode is available, hopefully a week today.
I always prefered DayZ or BR mod on locked first person servers, PUBG will be so intense, can't wait!

Do we have a time frame yet for when this will arrive on xbox? I hate missing out on the zeitgeist right now...

There's four guys in spain working on it while the main team is 100% focused on PC right now and they've yet to give any date. It's done when it's done. I heard they had the game running in some kind of state on the Xbox One X though, but it's far from finished.

I certainly don't expect it this year.

Go solo in squads, always drop in the same spot in the military base (i usually drop on the control tower), get a few kills and exit.

That's the only way to pratice guns without playing a whole game to get a few encounters.

He just got a confirmation from the devs that it's unintended.

"Hotfix will be applied soon."

Ill just repeat it here (based on my testing):
Solo: 20 points = 100 damage
Duo: 15 points = 100 damage
Squad: 10 points = 100 damage

Also if you use pubg.me and its live tracker you get per match damage numbers in absolute values.

For example I had a match yesterday, top 10 squad finish with 0 kills 1 assist and 350 damage.

6th dinner. Really proud of this round. Great perseverance, positioning, awareness of firing mode, awareness of enemy positioning, and all without blind camping.

I hate when playing with a random squad they decide to go somewhere on the airplane's path that a ton of other squads are dropping, for example, the school. It almost always turns into shit. At least drop into a bordering town or area and loot, then try to take out other squads from there.

Probably a silly question, but pubg.me seems to be inaccurate, am I missing something? Do you have to do this live tracker thing to make it accurate?

What part seems inaccurate? There is a delay in all statistics so if you just played a match thats not gonna be reflected for a few minutes.

Edit: All it does is fetch the data from PUBGs backend that they show ingame under the statistics tab.

And the live tracker just pings the backend continuously so it can separate the matches from each other. Without that you will see all matches played between each refresh grouped up

I see, thank you for the clarification. It just seems that some wins weren't recorded. But perhaps I'm off.

The majority of the time I prefer the M16/AK with an 8x to a real sniper rifle. My dream loadout is a M16 for longer range and a AK for close range. Holo on the AK and a 8x on M16 with a ACOG/4x in my bag for the end of the match and preferably suppressed.

Any reason you have the M16 for long range and the AK for close? I like having my AK for long range since I thought it had higher damage per bullet, and then I have M16/M4/SCAR for close range.
