That's a shame. Was it's death disc drive related. I wonder if there are any disc drive replacements in the pipeline like GDEMU for Dreamcast.

There are drive alternatives out there but I don't think anyone has them in-stock at the moment.

I through a wasp in my gc with Swiss installed on it. It's absolutely fantastic but you can't play games with audio streaming which is a bummer.

Just got my GC-Video plug and play device in the mail this afternoon; looking forward to trying it out this evening.

Didn't know about that. Disappointing.

I bought Luigi's Mansion, Mario Sunshine and Twin Snakes + a thousand year door for gamecube a few months ago.

Will play em all soon for the first time ever.

I love Luigi's Mansion and Mario Sunshine. Those are very underrated, yet flawed masterpieces.

Post some screens and impressions!

It's a bummer but the majority of games play. The gc I modded with the wasp is basically just my melee/gameboy machine anyway.

Four good games, but Sunshine is probably my favorite among them. That game was just magical.

Can't decide on the color of my replacement system. I have a new in box platinum system but I never got a chance to see one in person.

I was looking through some junk that my father was about to throw away and lo and behold I find Star Fox Adventures and Star Wars Rogue Leader: Rogue Squadron 2. Both with cases and manuals. Cue nostalgia!

Looking forward to your impressions! Had mine for a week, been playing a ton of Gamecube as a result! Very satisfying for me to play these games on the big TV, looking and feeling great. It's rare a game looks better than you remember, but Metroid Prime is stellar in 2017.

Time for some serious talks with your father!

My old system is starting to having trouble reading discs. Anything easy i could do about this?

Start with a simple cleaning of the lens and then use some white lithium grease on the rails if you need to go beyond that. I would then move on to adjusting the potentiometer.

Grab a cotton swabs and 70% or higher rubbing alcohol. Dab some alcohol on the swap and gently clean the lens in a circular motion. Don't press on the lens too hard or you could do damage to it. Then flip the swab over and use the dry side to dry up the lens. Just look closely when done to make sure the dry end of the swap doesn't leave any debris behind.

Unfortunately all but two of my games are in storage while I'm in temp housing from a fire but Baten Kaitos looks really nice and Skies of Arcadia, while a bit sharp from the line doubling, also looks noticeably better than any Cube's output I've seen for 480i on a modern screen.

Build quality definitely feels like a homebrew project, no "click" when inserting into the GCN or HDMI, but once everything is set it stays steady. Once I get back in my place in a couple months it'll be great to put the adapter through the ringer but I'm impressed so far.

Where is the cutoff for this problem? I got mine in July 2003.
I know there are several drive revisions (4,6 and 8) but I don't have exact information on which one has issues or when they were introduced and this information is difficult to find on google.

Anyone know anything about the AV cables? I received two today and the plug of one is grayish while the other one is black. Is it possibly a older cable for a different system?

Could be a SNES AV cable. Plug was the same from SNES through GC.

I couldn't remember if the SNES and N64 shipped with that color plug. I replaced all my cables in like 2005 years ago when I got a bunch of gamecube era AV cables on sale from K-Mart.

Wow ok! I used my Wii for the component, but now I think I get one of this adaptor. I know my sound system upscale video and I'm curious about the difference with that adaptor.
My receiver really did a bad job upscaling 480p via component. If that's what you're doing, you may want to do a comparison between your receiver and a direct connection to your HDTV.

I imagine most receivers are not built with great upscalers.

For now, my setup is a little weird. My projector take 1080p, but output only 720p. There's not component input, but it works with the vga input (using an adaptor). I'll do the test this week. That will be a pain though... I know I have too much connections between consoles and the projector, but man, that's a lot of cable management for 13 consoles plugged at any time and I want to make it easy for my girlfriend. My receiver pass all to HDMI, even old composite cable.

I read somewhere that the component cable for the GC is better than the one for the Wii. (?)

Edit : Well, it's hard to find information on the upscaling quality of my receiver (Denon avr-s900w).

Saw the video yesterday and well image quality is amazing. $100 plus shipping is a little steep for me but would be nice to be able to grab one if it ever gets cheaper.

Black ones came with gamecubes. Grey ones game with N64s.

They're interchangeable though.

I'd love to get my hands on either HDMI dongle. I love my GC so much and while S-Video is a huge improvement over composite, seeing Rogue Leader being so crisp in that video made me salivate.

I have Wii component cables for playing my GameCube games but I've been seeing that the Wii 2 HDMI dongles are popular and cheap. Has anyone used one for playing GameCube games? Is it an improvement over component cables?

where is the best place to get good quality gamecube consoles

I tried amazon warehouse deals. I purchased three with the intention of picking the best one out of the lot and returning the rest. All three were in good condition but I went with one of the newer models without the digital port because I wanted an improved disc drive.
