REZ infinite now out on PC, with full VR support, 20% discount at launch (19.99).

I have the PS4 version and it has the original music.

My question is if the music in the PC version can be found in the installation files?

It cannot. The files are all cut up pieces and samples, not straight audio streams.

If you want a copy of the game's soundtrack you're gonna wanna pick up "Gamer's Guide to Rez", but it's not cheap, and not EXACTLY the version in the game.

I wonder if someone's done a perfect run and recorded the game's audio.

Was there any explanation given for this?
Nope. Just my edit. Here's the tweets.

Missed that, thanks. So I guess they were trying to differentiate the regular tracks from the bonus tracks, or whatever. There's always something with them.

Speaking of... would like to play the game I bought this morning at some point!

I couldn't help but feel like the sound mix was fairly off compared to the Dreamcast and XBLA versions, and it seems like i'm not the only one to notice? The backing music feels softer in places, while certain sound effects have been boosted so significantly that they overpower some of the more familiar audio cues I'm used to. Someone commented in that thread that the PS4 version's sound is not like this, so maybe something isn't working right?

I played Area X a little while ago on Oculus VR.

What's the big deal? I looked around and pressed a button to blow pixel monsters up. It's a cool looking game, for sure. I kinda expected more from the way people are so hyped about it.

I saw clips of Area X back when this was released for PS4 and I didn't think much of it.

Now that I'm playing it at 1440p, downscaled to hell and back, headphones turned up, goddamn I love it. Everything looks so... sharp. The focus on pinprick particle effects is so lovely.

Just played through it in VR and it was simply incredible. First time I've gone back to the original since the ps2 and it was a real treat. Area X was amazing and I need more. So glad it made it's way to pc VR.

I think even though it says standing experience that playing seated should be preferable. I have yet to play seated because I played for like 35 minutes. But when you're standing you're likely to turn too quickly. The game doesn't like it when you whip around 180 degrees behind you super quickly and back again. Its weird.

It's Mizuguchi's vision brought fully to life. He was talking about VR with SEGA way back in 1992! And now he got to make it a reality with his magnum opus.

Repent from your heathen ways. Area X will soothe your restless soul – join us in the light, for Lord Mizuguchi has given us His countenance.

Ultrawide is extra-broken compared to most other games.
Rez Classic is horizontally stretched, and both Rez Classic/Area X are offset vertically so there's a big black band across the bottom of the screen.
Screenshots don't show this vertical offset.
I wish that was something DigitalFoundry covered in their port reports, even if it's just using a custom 3440x1440 resolution.

EDIT: It's even worse than I thought.
"Fullscreen" in the game is borderless windowed mode.
So if you select a 16:9 resolution like 2560x1440 you see your desktop at the sides. It doesn't pillarbox the game.

Yeah the Ultrawide is absolute garbage. :/

Might refund until later, idk.

If they don't improve the ultrawide support within 2 weeks then I'll probably refund this as well.

Area X was fncking fantastic but the lack of ultrawide support is a shame.

Granted I do have a 1080p monitor as secondary, but I'd rather play it on my main ultrawide monitor.

is there a consensus on best control scheme?

i assume ds4, xb1, vive wands, steam controller, oculus touch are the options,

only one i won’t have yet is oculus touch, my rift comes on friday

For what it's worth, if you manually change the desktop resolution to a 16:9 one outside of the game, it is at least playable. If you have DisplayFusion or similar tools, you can set up a trigger to change the monitor profile when REZ.exe is loaded.
This really is one of the most broken games I've seen when running in ultrawide though.
I'll probably refund it and wait for a sale if they don't do anything to improve this within the next two weeks.

Saw the thread title. Instantly ran to my PC. Loaded Steam and bought this thing all in the span of like 15 seconds. I've been patiently waiting since the PSVR release.

Time to put my Vive on.

Yup same issue here, bought it after seeing DF video stated it supported arbitrary resolutions.

EDIT: refunded, sad

Hot damn, just beat the OG levels on Oculus. What a great fucking game. I remember struggling with it on dreamcast, but 'pointer' controls make the game almost too easy. Doesn't really matter though cuz I'm having a blast.

Wish the rumble came through on both touch controllers and not just the 'active' one. Need that immersion.

Have you tried turning on Trance Vibration in the options? I've not got a VR setup, but tried it with mouse controls and turning that on gave me vibration in my connected controller at the same time.

Weird feeling to boot this up yesterday as Rez was the last game I got for my Dreamcast. Never even cleared the first stage at the time and I am still somewhat confused about what the goal of Rez Infinite is tbh. Then again that is Dreamcast in a nutshell, quirky games until the bitter end.

I can't believe I had never heard of this game before today (I was even a dreamcast owner). This is definitely one of the best games I've played on the rift.

Area X, 1080p, 200% Res Scale, 144fps. Feels good man.

Shame Rez classic is capped at 60 though I guess that's an artefact of it's age. For what it's worth, Area X doesn't support arbitrary frame rates either and is capped at 200fps when I disable vsync (I also assume this behaviour means that it's not working correctly with gsync, which would normally override any ingame setting).

I wonder if someone's done a perfect run and recorded the game's audio.

There is an unofficial version that contains effects-free audio for full area runs (around 10mins per area), Boss Rush, Eden, Lost Area, Trance Mission and the various menu pieces.

Do a google search for 'Rez Game Sound Data' and it should present itself.

I'd assume touch or wand. I don't have vive, but I assume the wands would feel similar to touch.

I've played this game before with ds3 and xb360, and steam controller I am assuming is similar.

the level of freedom by being able to just use your hand is significant. but like I said, makes the game a little easier

Bought the game last night. Now I wonder whether to play it now or wait a few years until I get a VR headset...

Area X was near religious in VR. Very cool. Played through the classic body too.

I think using the tracked motion controllers makes the game too easy though. It's basically mouse control in a controller-designed game. I was able to breeze through the game, although I have lots of previous experience.

I played only in Oculus yesterday and noticed the sound was really off as well. For me, stage 3 had VERY quiet music but loud sound effects which bummed me out since it's my favorite stage. Also, I think I accidentally played in easy mode cause the stage progression was waaaaay off. Stage 5 was filled with awkward moments where I was just flying around with no enemy in site. I will try again tomorrow on "advanced".

what? stage 5 is exactly how it was originally.

Anybody have a good breakdown of the VR camera modes? Standard vs Dynamic vs Advanced? I played the first area in Standard and then the rest of the game in Advanced and Im not sure what the difference was.

I was playing in VR in "standard" mode, which seems to mean easy mode lol. After I did Area 1-5 I saw that "advanced" is supposed to be the normal Rez experience/gameplay.

Listening to the Rez audio someone mentioned earlier and the sound was definitely off in other areas as well, at least in VR. Guess I was too focused on the visuals lol.

Standard makes the camera less erratic than dynamic and drops the difficulty down. Advanced has the same camera as standard but features the default difficulty of Rez. Dynamic is the original Rez camera with the default difficulty.

Yeah, sorry about that, I really need to find a way to test ultra wide resolutions as it didn't even occur to me. Have had issues when testing custom 21:9 resolutions as well. Was able to use any random 16:9 resolution without issue, though. :\

So, it's not really all that great and its just cool because Mizuguchi wanted to do this for awhile and he finally got to do it?

That's really cool and I'm glad for him and all, but the actual playing of the game is pretty meh IMO.

It is a little odd that the left hand controller doesn't vibrate when playing on Vive. The Xbox version had the ability to plug in like 4 controllers.

Dynamic with control type 2 is the best experience I've found so far. Err the most true to form.

NOPE! The playing of the game is the best part. It's out of this world great.

If anything difficulty needs increased with motion controller aiming

It's understandable, the aspect ratio is unfortunately still a kinda new thing I guess. Wish it got more widely adopted because man it's just so fucking good when it works. 😭

Maybe you guys could invest in one of the cheaper 2560x1080 sets? DF is always my go to for tech analyses it would be extremely helpful for me if you were able to at least have a footnote on Ultrawide support.

Anyone with the duplicate Steam code issue from iam8bit hear back from them? Been 24 hours and nothing, still can't play the game.

Obviously the definitiv edition because modder will add Rez vibrator support.

In case no one noticed, this is actually natively supported without a mod. It's in the options screen.

I couldn't disagree more. That boss fight is beautiful. Nearly brought me to tears. Maybe has to be experienced in VR?
