Netflix Canada increasing prices $1-2/month

https://mobilesyrup.com/2017/08/10/netflix-monthly-subscription-price-increase-canada/

Old: $7.99 Basic, $9.99 Standard, $11.99 Premium
New: $8.99 Basic, $10.99 Standard, $13.99 Premium

This means that anyone signing up for Netflix right now will see the streaming platform's new prices, while the price increase for current subscribers is set to roll out gradually. Netflix says that it will notify current subscribers via email when their price increase is going into effect, and that all current customers should receive a notification by the end of August. This price increase is also only for Canadian Netflix and other international markets will not experience monthly subscription increases.

Pretty shit since the content still pales in comparison to what's available in the US.

I'm off Netflix at the end of the month anyways. Cable coming in my place at the same time my GF is moving in.

They lack a LOT of french content too, I personally don't care, but my GF is pretty much french only.

Increasing in Australia too later this month. I think 17.99AUD for the Ultra HD plan.

Get a notification everytime I access Netflix. Might go down to the HD plan for the time being.

They added on GST then they added another $1-2 just because they could and they refuse to explain why.

The Australia Dollar and Canadian Dollars are pretty much identical atm.

meh, Canadian Netflix has become really good and is responsible for about 70% if the shows watched by my family so still worth it for me

Don't know the reasons for the Canadian price increase, but this was a tax thing so there wasn't much Netflix could do.

Edit: Sounds like I may be mistaken. It's dumb as fuck then, but I'm OK with Aussie Netflix.

I pay for Netflix premium for 4K, $14 a month is getting pretty high from their original proposal, especially since they seem to promote their own shows over newer AAA movies.

Does Canada not have Amazon, Hulu, HBO Now? Serious question.
Canada has a gimped version of Amazon Video, and just got it last year. No Hulu, No HBO Now, but if you subscribe to the premium movie network "The Movie Network" you get their version of HBO online on their online platform/app.

It has Amazon, and it's fucking awful.

It's so low on content that the main page actually advertises TV shows that aren't even available yet (you click on it and it's a trailer), and half the content is repeated, but in French.

Only have Amazon from that list, and it has a day worth of content.

HBO Now? Lol only way to get it is if you have the shit expensive cable subscription with Bell then you can get the app, which even doesn't update content as quickly as the US counterpart.

Prices going up, a multitude of subscription services...

The reasons people originally cut their cable services are now leaking into the streaming services. Specifically this news in the same week that Disney made their announcement isn't great.

I'll probably cancel if they try this in the UK.
Only need a few months of Netflix a year to catch up on shows, their movies are shit.

They were trying to grab your prize. They work for the mercenary. The masked man.
As streaming services inevitably get worse and/or more expensive, I wonder if this slows down the amount cord-cutting?

Yes, no, no.

HBO, I'm not really surprised but Hulu is a bit surprising.

I personally couldn't give a fuck about TV, but this is probably why my parent in-laws have an android box with kodi on it.

i'm okay with any increases, esp that small. but this reflects more on their weak dollar value imo. netflix needs to ensure they maintain a certain number from them. lets say they were making the equivalent of 100US$, now they are only making 80$, a price increase is used to make up for that missing 20$. i dunno if this is how things actually work, but thats just how i imagine it

Just waiting for Death Note and Stranger Things and then I'm canceling (not solely due to the price, I should have canceled earlier anyways)

In Canada there is only CraveTV.
And it only has Apple TV and Xbox One support, as well as Samsung TVs. That's it. No PS4 app, no Roku app. Then they complain that they don't have enough people signing up for it, no shit.

Fucking dinosaurs are spending a ton of money on advertisement, considering I see an ad for CraveTV every other commercial break, but they aren't spending money on putting their apps on every device possible.

Aussie government bending over for Gerry Harvey and mates regarding lack of gst for overseas companies selling to us aussies.

Can't wait for Amazon to arrive in Australia and beat the living shit out of Gerry Harvey.
