Is there a performance guide for 1.3 yet?

My i7 2600 / 960 4GB is just not up to the task of playing this game smoothly. Bummer.

If you use the GeForce Experience auto optimizer and then go to NVidia Control Panel > Manage 3D Settings > No Man's Sky > set v-sync to ON and triple buffering to ON

does that help? It worked for me and others in this thread, though I have a 1070. The game went from choppier than the OG PS4 version to very smooth at 4k.

Here's to second chances and putting in work to do right by the consumers you let down initially, even though you could have taken the money and ran.

I've been totally addicted since buying it yesterday. My only problem now is that I've moved on a few galaxies and my main mission is 3 back...so I'm going to have to spens time warping back which is a bit of a pain. Is there any way of returning to old bases or can you only have one?

Pretty awesome that, by and large, the massive ARG gambit paid off. People seem pleased, and the update was suitably massive. Good show.

I had to download GeForce Experience, but after following your instructions performance is now slightly better. The main changes are Light Shafts are now Off, and Textures are Medium. HBAO was already Off, and Reflections and Shadows are still at Medium. There are still certain places on foot that just drag framerate wise, but it is still an improvement from what it was.

Thanks for the recommendations.

Great update, really enjoying it. However, I'm stuck on the Artemis mission where I'm supposed to find a holographic communication transmitter. Where the fuck is it?!

Otherwise this update has me hooked again. Great stuff.

Been playing this for the first time today. First planet I start on is a freezing one I named Isaverycolda and had to constantly jump into caves to survive only for all of the caves being full of a man-creating little bugger I named Isanotverynicea. Finally got to my ship but kept getting harassed by sentinels every time I tried to mine rocks. Finally leave the planet and immediately attacked by Vy-keen's demanding units. I refused and get vaporized.

I guess it's pretty fun.

just found a crashed hauler with a ton of cargo space worth 6million vs my stupid little shuttle (that I also found crashed) worth 500k...

sucks that you cant get the money from your olds I guess (well, by fixing up a crashed one and leaving your old one behind I mean)

Uh, just started a new game, and something is very wrong. If I push the right stick right I turn normally, but if I push it left I just start spinning like crazy. It's basically unplayable. What the fuck. Surely this isn't a feature of Survival?

On PC with K+M I had the turn the sensitivity down by like 10 post-patch because it was too damn fast but the UI is now laggy. People were complaining about controller speed so maybe they tried to remedy it and went too far.

So how is it post-patch? This thing has been on my wishlist since launch, but I held off originally due the initial somewhat negative reception. But its 60% off on steam this weekend plus this giant new patch.... good time to dive in?

I've seen some posts in the thread about performance issues... any concerns there?:

GPU: GeForce GTX 1060 6GB
CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-3570K CPU @ 3.40GHz
Memory: 16 GB RAM (15.96 GB RAM usable)

No Mans Sky 1.3 vs Elite Dangerous... any advice (I don't have either)?

NMS should be fine on that system if you stick to 1080p. You can always disable God Rays and HBAO to boost fps.

Coming back to this after going through story mode at launch. Does the new story mode have acces to all the new stuff like ground vehicles, or is that just in creative mode?

Make sure you dismantle any non default tech for resources in any ship you leave behind.

I had luck disabling the Nvidia Overlay/Sharing thing in the general settings in GeForce Experience. Helped performance significantly with my 770.

Great, going to try that now. Either way, performance on a 960 is just terrible with this game. Thinking I might get it on the PS4 while it's on sale...

Anyone worked out the issues with the overseers on a transferred save?

Base was abandoned after the update. Literally. The overseers had left, and the floors were covered in grass. I dismantled the base and moved on. Also I've lost the blueprints for some of their tutorials, copper wiring, fuse, circuit board.

Will it work if I restart the whole thing again? I set up a tech terminal and it's telling me to go three or so systems to meet a guy, but I don't know if it's worth going if it is bugged out at the moment?

WOW... okay I finally salvaged my ship after getting a better grasp on the early survival mechanics of the game. I was getting frustrated at how quickly my life support would run out until I read the manual (gasp!) and discovered that running and jet pack really suck up the juice. Once I walked everywhere I think I made it from the crash landing to leaving the atmosphere with only a couple of life support batteries. That and ducking into caves all of the time to recharge my hazard system. I guess the first planet is always toxic in survival mode? I restarted a number of times and while the name of the planet and toxicity levels were different each time, it was always a toxic atmosphere.

Leaving the atmosphere for the first time, a fleet of ships in orbit.... are they hostile? I don't know, I avoided them for fear of getting killed. If they are non-hostile, the least they could have done is rescue me from the surface of a toxic planet, those jerks.

Then I boosted to a space station, dropped out of boost just as I came up on the station, this rock anthem music blasting... I flew inside and landed my ship. As I'm walking up the ramps of this glossy black landing bay, other ships are coming in and landing on business of their own... I just kind of stared at this for a few minutes ;)

Anyway:

1) How do I get more space in my ship? There is hardly room for anything!
2) Boost sucks up a TON of fuel, that station was only 30 seconds away with a pulse jump and it used 50% of the fuel I had collected on the surface... not to mention the plutonium was totally depleted.
3) Am I the only human in the galaxy or something? No other races seem to know the language. Of course I guess it never said we were human.

Anyway thrilled with this game so far!

This thread kind of blew up since I last looked but is there a known issue with the expanded cargo inventory on the exosuits?

I've bought two and they don't seem to do anything? Maybe I'm just missing it since I haven't played in almost a year though.

As far as I can tell it's broken. Yes, one of the key features of this new patch doesn't work. Face palm.

probably get old by the 5th or 6th time you do I assume, but trying to scrounge up shit to repair this sweet ass crashed ship you found while fighting the environment and these fucking sentinals is a pretty cool experience.

I thought the same thing until I did this fix. I hope it works for you.

Your fix does actually help somewhat, but there are still certain places on a map where performance dips just way too much. Turning Motion Blur off kinda gives the impression that it isn't as jerky, but it's still far from ideal. I think PS4 May be the way to go in my case.. Really appreciate the tip though, thanks bud.

Yeah, you can overheat it by holding it too long, but I'm talking about when you let go before that happens. Then the heat meter starts going down somewhat slowly, but if you then start mining again it instantly drops to zero so you have the full meter to work with again. That at least LOOKS glitched to me, or otherwise just doesn't make sense. Why would it cool down FASTER when I start mining again before it has cooled down? The expected behavior IMO would be that it would start building up from the level it was at. Whatever, it just makes mining a bit faster, but it feels a bit like I'm exploiting a bug.

I get it but NMS is not a realistic simulation, so just think of it as a design/gameplay quirk.

Where is the blueprint for the Cuboid Room? I see all the other cuboid parts in the base blueprint vendor but not the one for the room itself. Is it associated with a quest or in a space station...?

In the main room of your Base there should be a Vy'keen selling base parts.

Performance was dodgy on my overclocked 980. I started a 2nd playthrough with the Foundation patch after buying a 1070 and it made a huge difference. Had over 2 dozen mods running and still ran better.

Aaaaand that settles it. Since I'm not going to be upgrading anytime soon and because I cannot deal with this amount of slowdown I have no choice but to buy it on the PS4. Plus I get to contribute more to Hello Games and at the same time piss off the haters. Win win.

Imagine that planet rotating in the background
But there's no gameplay reason for that to happen and would just confuse players!

I'd imagine a CPU matters more than any GPU.

I have a 960 and am playing just fine. My almost decade old i5 is a definite bottleneck though.

I lost most of my base which is a ballache as spent the last couple of weeks doing the quests for it :/ I'd just got a decent farm going too.
