No Man's Sky - Atlas Rises |OT| Nada, Polo and you no longer fly solo

Anyone? Some people were saying you should wait for the bugs to be fixed before starting.
I don't know, I was suspecting that all the bugs I'm hitting and seeing others hit are because I'm using an old save from 1.2. But damn, I don't want to give up all that play time and work, I did it all last month. Some of it was SO tedious, and now the game is even more tedious.

I don't want to have to warp between multiple systems to make half a million. Shit was going slow when I made 2 million a harvest.

Also, it seems like the build limit is a bit lower now. I deleted some plants because I thought I had to re-plant them to make the grow (you have to charge hydroplanting stations now) but when I went to re-plant them, the last one wouldn't let me and said "limit reached"

Ok... I just got an atlas stone 2.0 (different name) and it says my next objective is in my current system. Ok...?

I want to continue my atlas stone mission from before this update before embarking on the new quest. Is that possible? I don't know how to figure that out as it seems they both share atlas/anomaly sightings? I'm a little annoyed.

And I hate pirates. I'm constantly blasted, have to rebuild shield, blasted, rebuild shield, blasted, no more iron, dead. What are the tricks to avoiding damage?
Because new page.

Feels good to be back. Fresh start.

There are no tricks, pirates are bad ass now. You have pay for help when they attack if you don't want it to be a fight for survival. I have a class A fighter with decent photon cannons and despite my attempts a dog fighting trickery, I was going through stacks of Iron and Zinc. Luckily I had like 2000 Iron on me, used like 600 the first fight. I don't know about this man.... if we're now expected to fly between systems to make money of the economy, pirates cannot be this bad ass, or maybe you get free assistance once you're in with a guild or something.

I don't know. So many things about this update are bothering the shit out of me. Mostly the shitty frame rate, the additional grinding, and the loss of my awesome home planet. My home planet.....

Which platform are you on? If you're on PS4/PS4 Pro, just restart the game.
I paused my game and go to sleep mode all the time and returning to the game after a few hours, the game framerate will be extremely choppy and unplayable. Every restart will immediately fix everything, game running smooth 60fps again (with some dips when I'm on vehicle).

Thanks, will remember that, I tried that this morning but could not tell if it really worked because I was on a planet that spawned stupid amounts of fauna around me.
I used to never kill the fauna, but I was shooting them dead to try to stabilize the frame rate.

Let me show you through these halls, my friend, where treasures of indie gaming await...
Survival impressions after the update? People are saying it's now easier...? I'm debating whether my new game should be Normal or Survival. I want an exiting challenge, but not a tedious and frustrating one.
I love survival, but dont play survival if you dont want hard hard.

So how is it post-patch? This thing has been on my wishlist since launch, but I held off originally due the initial somewhat negative reception. But its 60% off on steam this weekend plus this giant new patch.... good time to dive in?

I've seen some posts in the thread about performance issues... any concerns there?:

GPU: GeForce GTX 1060 6GB
CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-3570K CPU @ 3.40GHz
Memory: 16 GB RAM (15.96 GB RAM usable)

No Mans Sky 1.3 vs Elite Dangerous... any advice (I don't have either)?

For people having trouble with Survival, always ensure you have plutonium and Always Be Mining Plutonium. Also, survival is where I learned landing pads don't use up your launch thrusters, so I usually find a base where I can land. This includes those cylinders that allow you to call your ship with a bypass chip. They act just like a landing pad even though your ship is on the ground. I usually use a base with a landing pad as a jumping off point for exploration.

Ayo, what's it mean when I pulse my exosuit scanner and I see a red matrix grid structure underground. Should I be terrain deforming to get at that?!

Edit: answered my own question... it's an underground deposit of ore. I thought it looked structure-like but I see what they were going for. :)

The two games are very different, but with NMS 1.3, they have become more similar.

Elite is much more sim based: the flight model is really good, but you are doing everything manually (landing gear, etc). The pace is much more deliberate and slow.

With the introduction of Missions is NMS, it aligns very close to the way Elite does them. You also get the benefit of being able to leave your ship and walk around, build bases, vehicles.

At the end of the day, Elite is more Star Trek, NMS is a touch more Star Wars.

They are very different.

There's more to do in No Man's Sky and it's a more visually interesting world. Elite's ship control is great and vistas are lovely but mostly just backdrops like nebula. Actual moons you land on are more realistic and completely barren. Elite performs way better for me on a 980ti while NMS struggles to get over 50 fps for me. They're both very unfinished (and very different) games but NMS IMO has way more content at this moment.

This thread just got me to walk down to the game store by my office to buy NMS. A new copy was only $19.99 (versus $14.99 for used), so I decided to give Hello Games the sale in return for all of the work they have been doing to build this game.

No 1.31 on Steam yet right?

The new quest/narrative stuff is the "Awakenings" mission. If you don't have that or it's not your active quest, you are not on the new stuff. you should be able to continue atlas path stuff as you see fit before beginning it.

Today we’re releasing Patch 1.31 on both PS4 and Steam. This fixes a number of issues including:

Fixed an issue causing some players to crash when accessing the galactic map while having too many waypoints active
Fixed a crash some players experience when pinning certain tech
Fixed a crash which occurs when players with particularly long play-throughs attempt to save the game
Fixed an issue that sometimes resulted in guild missions not crediting correctly

No Mans Sky 1.3 vs Elite Dangerous... any advice (I don't have either)?

I don't have NMS on PC, but Elite Dangerous is a very optimized game (planetary stuff might have some dips).
Elite Dangerous is extremely hard to get into. You will be googling stuff left and right because there's not really a guidance in the game. The game is unnecessary complicated, which for some, enjoy the complexity because of realistic. Sound design in Elite Dangerous is easily on the top, everything sounds EXTREMELY good. However, the game felt aimless unless you have your own goal, which is getting a better ship and that's really it. There's a lot of cool stuff but all of them are just for the sake of visual, as in there's no functionality tied to them now. Every major patch introduced features are very under-utilized and most people will just forget about it i.e. powerplay (government system), multi-wing, planetary landing, CQC (a separate PVP quick game) and more. The developer did try to fix stuff but most of the time you just felt that they've given up a lot of stuff. In a way, the game is complicated yet shallow. If you're the type of person who is active in game community, maybe you might like it, there's a lot of community stuff going on, hunting for aliens. But it leads back to my main complaint, everything is just visual. Aliens as of now are kind of pointless, they've added megaships as station, but they work exactly like any other stations.

No Man's Sky integrated a whole lot of good stuff from Elite Dangerous like mission boards and galactic trading. With base building (which is surprisingly VERY in depth), farming, space exploration, actual story content, mysteries, vehicles and quest log, it's very beginner friendly. I had to google some stuff still but often later found out it was taught in one of the mission. Space combat is not as great as Elite, but apart from that, I personally thought No Man's Sky execution on game mechanics and item usage are much better. There's an obvious sense of progression here AND there's story going on as an extra things to do. It's easy to understand a lot of the stuff because the game just teaches you what you need to know. Also, after a few hours of Elite, you will get sick of the variety of assets in game. You stare at planets that you can't really do anything about it, you get to land on barren wasteland which is literally a one colored rock planet, and of course the blackness of the galaxy. In No Man's Sky, everything is vibrant, colorful and with the new update, terrains are more interesting now, weathers, sand storm, bubbles floating around and weird flying alien animals.

Amazing. I wrote a zendesk report about how guild missions don't go toward a certain
story mission score (you'll get it when you get to it) and how it prevented me from continuing the main narrative.

Hours later, patch fixes it.

HG, how are you so fucking efficient lately?

You have to remember as well that their goal in the game was to make it feel like you were stepping into a 70's Sci-Fi book cover. Having other planets visible from the surface is a massive part of that, as is the ability to point to one and soon after been stood where you were pointing a minute ago. Orbiting planets would take that away unless they all orbited in a cluster, which would defeat the point.

That's not to say the idea of orbits is bad, just that I think it compromises too much of the vision even without player concerns.

All they had to do was attach more moons to each planet, rather than turning each system into a static space diarama. And I really don’t think rotation or orbits is inherently confusing, it’s just UI that isn’t good enough at expressing to players where things are. We need a top-down system map. Add in an autopilot mode where you select a planet from this map and I don’t think anyone would have a problem.

It’s great that so many pre-release features are getting attention, but I was really sold on the game as a living universe, and part of this was star systems that act with at least a vague semblance of realism. That immersion is important. Realistic and varying day/night cycles, planets that orbit, stars that aren’t just lightboxes. These things are as important to immersion as cool animals and good ground textures.

How hard is that though? I don't want it to just become tedious, but I also don't want easy easy. I want some challenge. What I played of the game back in the old days sorely lacked that.

And it's likely incredibly more difficult technically than cool animals and good ground textures. I think it's a pretty straightforward feature to cut first. What purpose does it serve outside of immersion?

It's super hard to start with. Then gets easier as you upgrade.

It still presents a slightly meatier challenge and you can still get caught out in a way you wouldn't in Normal.

However some things are more annoying and grindy. Resources are worth half as much, you use a full tank of plutonium every time your ship lifts off, and every paradise planet or half way decent place is crawling with sentinels.

Same here.
Hard enough to make you aware of your resources but not so hard that a mistake means a new save. It has the right amount of weight to your actions and choices where your preparedness matters. And the chill planets with resources become a welcomed respite and needed moment to restock. It's the best of the modes IMO until real co-op comes out. Then permadeath with a friend will be the choice.

Edit:Yeah like mokey is saying. Only thing I don't like about it is the launch thruster consumption. But you can remedy it to some extent by landing at locations with those summon pylons or a trade building landing pad.

Anyone had it on PS4 and double dipped on PC? Thinking of getting it and letting my RX 480 have a go at it. Cause I don't think i am really getting my money's worth

Having fun, game looks great in 4k but I had to turn down all the options haha. Great art style though it only looks different on the aliens models.

Can't stop gushing over the generation now. I've been to over 30 planets and over half have been unique and even the ones that feel familiar have color variations that lessen the familiarity.

Has anyone found out how to check the toxicity levels for real life determination? Landed on a planet that had alkaline rain at a 66.5 toxicity level. Apparently alkaline has hallucinogenic effects after 12(ph?)... is the number in game a straight comparison?

It runs AND looks better on my standard PS4 than it does on my PC setup (GTX 660TI 2GB, FX 8350, 8GB RAM).

It's frequently in the 20 FPS range on planets, and I even had it drop down to 10 FPS just from looking at a planet while flying in space. This is with everything on the lowest settings.

Performance wasn't this bad before 1.3 though, so I expect they will sort things out.

edit: of course RX480 is better than my card so your performance should be a good amount better

I like how you need to learn the language of the alien races. The texts to describe what they are trying to say or do are hilarious.
