Hope I'm not stepping on anyone's toes. The one day theater event was last night and I couldn't find a thread. Don't tell me The Killing Joke scared everyone away now lol

Hmm. I really dug the vintage opening credits, that was a nice touch. Conroy sounds checked out, not sure if that's intentional direction or what.

Feels like the budget is holding these movies back. There are lots of exposition heavy moments where characters just statically stand around and talk. It's really unnecessary cause the story is incredibly simple. And some of the visual gags go on way too long, like they're trying to run down the clock

Wasn't a huge fan of Rauch as Harley. Not really blaming the cast too much, the script definitely needed another polish. "I'm turning over a new leaf...as it were." There's a lot of clunky lines and "jokes" like that. Desperately needed someone to punch it up a little and catch those clunkers. And the sex scene between Dick and Harley is pretty juvenile, as expected.

I think if you wait until it's available for rental, it'll be a nice enough watch. I didn't find it as obnoxious as The Killing Joke. But it's really 30 mins of material stretched to be feature length.

Looks more budget than The New Batman Adventures.

Super budget. There are long stretches where there aren't any fights or cool sequences. Just recycled animation.

There is a scene where Harley takes Nightwing and Batman to a henchman bar to get info on Poison Ivy. You get TWO lengthy song routines back to back. And as they're leaving, the henchman block their path. So you're like "Alright, finally. They gotta fight their way out." But Batman drinks a glass of milk, takes off his utility belt and says "Alright, Boys. let's dance!" And then it cuts to the outside of the bar with punching sound effects. Then the next scene is them back in the Batmobile. Shoestring budget here, without a doubt.

There are also a lot of Batmobile scenes. Again, probably to save money.

"People love Harley, so lets pander to that, but also don't spend, like, any money."
It's working. 3 of my non comic books friends who had no idea who Harley was until Suicide Squad now buy everything that has her in it including this which looks like complete and utter trash.

Conroy has sounded checked out for years. His work on the Arkham games (the first two at least) sounded so detached.

I think he's quite good still and watching him in the recording booth it's clear he's doing a good job... but the material isn't helping him one bit. He's the voice of the Animated Batman to perfection, but they keep giving him portrayals that are just as detached from the original series and it'll always sound slightly "off" as a result.

Well, looks like I'll be skipping this one as well. Time to kill these off and start a bunch of new shows instead for streaming services. Fuck, just bring back Green Lantern TAS or give Wonder Woman her own show, now is the perfect time.

And you thought nothing could be worse than The Killing Joke. Bruce Timm wanted to prove you wrong.

Paul Dini was a saint for control Timm for as long as he did during the BTAS era. Sure we got the forced Barbara x Batman pairing but at least it wasn't done creepy. Money on next film having tim drake sleeping with catwoman.

It was mediocre overall, but I did appreciate the DCAU references (especially Harley roasting Nightwing's old mullet).

Is Bruce Timm actively trying to single-handedly drag the Batman franchise to lower lowers than they ever reached during the Schumacher era?

What the fuck is even happening over at DC Animation? What is going on here?
Animation.

It's a direct-to-DVD video. Nobody cares in the long run.

Wouldn't those new shows have the same directors/writers?

Yeah, I forgot to mention that they need new blood too. I have the utmost respect for people like Timm and everyone who worked on the DCAU back in the day but... It's time to move on, clearly.
Can't entirely agree, the quality of their work depends on the project. The same people who makes stuff like this also makes the more acclaimed work like YJ and LA.
