Sounds pretty cool. Have never heard of the band until this post.

Morrigan Stark

Arrogant Smirk
Yes! Power Metal is fucking awesome. Why have I never heard of this shit before?

Probably just lack of exposure. :)

Here you go, couple of songs from various power metal artists. If you like what you hear, check out their respective albums (you can look them all up on Metal-archives.com if you need to):

Demons & Wizards - Heaven Denies (same singer as Blind Guardian's)
Persuader - Fire At Will
Falconer - Mindtraveller
Manilla Road - Necropolis
Helloween - Walls of Jericho
Gamma Ray - Somewhere Out in Space (same singer as old Helloween, like the song above)
Symphony X - Inferno
Wuthering Heights - The Road Goes Ever On
Slough Feg - Sky Chariots
Jag Panzer - Iron Eagle
Iced Earth - Angels Holocaust
Virgin Steele - Invictus
Savatage - Beyond the Doors of the Dark
Fates Warning - The Apparition

Might be too obvious, but just in case you missed out on these traditional heavy metal classics:
Iron Maiden - Powerslave
Judas Priest - Painkiller

And for pure cheese:
Manowar - Blood of my Enemies

It's pretty great. I'll throw some recs too

Avantasia https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GH3kyXAEJHo
Powerwolf https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1zN7J64IeBo
Gloryhammer https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VTW30Q4B3Go
Aryeon https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oFuMKdrzPqU
Nightwish https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8cfGLKgT8S8

Last two are more prog and symphonic respectfully, but they have power metal qualities and excellent clean vocals.

I'll probably get a little flack for recommending this one, but fuck the haters, this song is amazing

Dragonforce - Through the fire and the flames

The only flack I'd ever give you for that recommendation is that you didn't also include anything off the three latest albums with Marc Hudson as their vocalist. ;D

Seriously, they got a lot better once Hudson joined imo. I do love the first two DF albums, but it's clear the schtick was getting overly repetitive with Inhuman Rampage and Ultra Beatdown.

Saw Marty Friedman last night. I didn't really expect the crowd to be the type to throw beer everywhere and push a lot. It was good though. The Fine Constant was great. Scale the Summit was boring overproduced garbage. I love Marty. I just wish he had played more early stuff.

Dragonforce rise to prominence sure as fuck surprised me. I liked them. I listened to their first album and thought it was cool. Next thing I knew they were HUGE. Bands like Hammerfall, Iced Earth, Blind Guardian doing their stuff for years, but at least in the US, this is what took off, "Power Metal" wise.

The biggest flack the band got was for not being able to replicate the sound live. First time I saw them in L.A. they sounded, well...pretty horrible.

Next two times back home in Houston were better. I had fun.

Edit: I read InHuman Rampage was certified Gold in the USA. In this day and age that's a huge accomplishment.

If memory serves me right, back in the Inhuman Rampage/Ultra Beatdown days, the band had a problem with drinking all the time. I recall seeing concert photos where Sam and Herman's mike stands had special cupholders built into them so they could keep drinking beer or whatever while playing onstage.

After ZP Theart was out of the band and they got Marc in as the new singer, I think they started easing up on the booze and got their act together. They seem to be much better at playing live these days than they did back around 2006-2008.

Recently i have been listening to Thrash Metal again. Mostly listening to new bands. I really like Havok, Warbringer, Angelus Apatrida and Lich King. But the best band i have discovered is Power Trip!

Does anyone have any experience with Stratovarius's Destiny reissue/remaster from last year? SA's Ecliptica Revisited was pretty much piled on, but I'm not seeing anything for Destiny, good or bad.

It's not an overstatement to say that Guitar Hero did a fuckton for the band.

Hmmm. Didn't know all that. That explains some.

edit; Yes. Guitar Hero was great promotion!

Alright, theeere we go
Out Novemebr 3rd
Under Duress. Pretty hefty piece so early into the album. But I dig it.
Eve from the I Can Tell You About Pain "EP" is not on the album, so that one was worth it for that great song.

Also there is a ridiculous amount of vinyl colors for pre-order. I hate that one of my dearest bands ever has been doing this for quite some time now.

That opaque red that's exclusive to Deathwish better not sell out by Friday. I need to get paid and I need that variant. Also that new song is fucking SICK.

I'm pretty sure every limited color is already sold out. :(

Colors on Deathwish Europe are still available. Didn't check Epitaph.
Still, with such a stupid amount of variants an no "real" limited edition, I don't care which color I get.

Man. I didn't know Ulver had changed so so much over the years. All I recall is a few samples of them when they were still Black Metal.

Anyhow, I think it's pretty cool. I like nine inch nails so....not too far from that sound. Sort of.

Oh dude, you have like 20 years to catch up on. They've put out a lot of very unique non-metal records since Themes from William Blake's The Marriage of Heaven and Hell and onwards. I have enjoyed just about everything.

I primarily refer to Witherfall as a prog metal band, but a lot of my friends consider them to be a prog-power metal band and considering some of the superb suggestions from Morrigan Stark are similar sounding to Witherfall, I figure I might as well suggest these guys too.

Here's their lead single, End of Time.

They are completely prog-power in the same vein that Nevermore was. Witherfall is basically a cross between Nevermore and Symphony X with a nod to King Diamond's dark storytelling. I hope that Nocturnes and Requiems isn't just a one time thing either, since it's one of the strongest albums of 2017 so far.

Really great list overall, but why that particular Jag Panzer song out of their countless superior ones? You basically hear the modified and improved version on Thane To The Throne anyway.

That's a fair point. I'd also say there's a lot of Savatage and Control Denied influences going on for Witherfall too.

As for the band's future, Joseph Michael and Jake Dreyer are currently writing for the band's second album and are aiming to release it sometime next year. The band picked up a second guitarist named Fili Bibiano a few months back and recently signed on with Century Media for a record deal.

I'm looking forward to the new album and am hoping to find out who their new drummer is! I know they jammed with Gergo Borlai awhile back and he posted a video of himself covering "What We Are Dying For" on his Facebook page, so I'm hoping it's him.
