Episode 2

I really hate this brooding Danny. This team is in dire need of a fun person, ala Starlord/Stark. They're all angry and serious. None of them ever smile.

I feel like a crazy person whenever I read people's negative reviews of the Netflix Marvel shows. I've loved/liked each one including this. People put DD S1 on a pedestal imo. It was just the big new thing at the time and the novelty inevitably wore off. Like, I don't see the huge drop in quality that everyone is always talking about.

The acting, the storyline, the fight scenes, the hip hop tunes everytime Luke turns up have all gone down from DD. DD 1& 2 are by far the best Netflix Marvel series.

Episode 6.

I saw Stick dying, so that didn't surprise me but I did not see Elektra killing Ripley. That startled me a bit.

For the complaints about the music with Cage's early scenes, did people watch Luke Cage? Music played a huge role in that series, so, yeah, since the first episodes serve as a continuation of their respective shows, music should absolutely be a big part of Cage's scenes. The same thing is happening with visual cues; camera angles, lighting, etc...I don't see the issue with it also happening with audio cues.

Agreed, each person's scenes are tailored to be tonally like their show's.

It's kind of obvious why people are complaining about the Luke Cage music stuff. It's getting to the point of stereotyping.

If not Tony, who might be off doing Avengers shit, at least Spider-Man would have at least dropped in to check things out about the earthquake.

But the real problem, I think, is The Hand. If they are so far-reaching and powerful and not even hiding their operations, someone should have known about them in the movie sphere.
Yeah if they really wanted it all connected they can do more than names or small stuff. I can understand the avengers not caring but someone like spider man not doing anything. Unless these shows take place before Spider Man is active. Have they ever out right said if this actiually was canon or not? Sorry for getting off topic lol. Also if I remember correctly JJ was actually having some common story with Agents of Shield right?

Did you feel the same way about the show? As I recall, the show was praised for it's use of music, and it's incorporation of the culture, rather than shying away from it. But if you felt it was stereotyping then, I absolutely understand why it would feel that way now, as well.

Finally staying ontopic but I have no prblems so far, I wasn't expecting some grand team up or anything but so far its enjoyable. Its nice to finally see them all together though. Ive made it to episode 4.

It's canon. Feige has said that a team up hasn't happened because of production timing/planning, and the fact that Marvel TV and Marvel Studios are different companies that don't necessarily talk much at all.

Yep. It's basically bruva on screen that's get some hip hop playing. I just don't get why they think Luke needs to have hip hop tunes 90% time he is on screen. They don't do it with the rest, so why just Luke?

IIRC all Netflix shows takes place after Winter Soldier and before Age of Ultron

Well, in fairness, Luke Cage was critically praised for its use of hip hop, so I bet the showrunners or Marvel looked at that and figured "more can't hurt".

So I've been busy and didn't care for Iron Fist so I only finished maybe 2-3 episodes. I've started Defenders and so far I don't feel like I've missed anything important. I'm following the mythology just fine. For those who've watched all of Iron Fist and are pretty far into The Defenders are there episodes of Iron Fist that might be a good idea for me to view?

Nope! Just know that Colleen

I'm inclined to think they take place in real time, personally.

They just don't really care about the stuff that didn't happen in America.
They confirmed a while ago that Defenders takes place 6 months after DD S2. Considering S2 takes place roughly a year after S1 we are looking at a 18 month timespan which fits with the timeline between WS and AoU

I liked the use of it in LC, but it was over used like bad. If I remember right some dude counted how many tunes there were in LC and there were 160. The over use and the fact it only seems to play when Luke is on screen is getting annoying.

Now we getting our Misty Knight!

I'm surprised we didn't get to see Iron Fist in his green suit from the promo material and stuff. Weird.

Still going to watch this despite only have seen both seasons of Daredevil and not being able to make it through the first episodes of Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist.

Did watch the Screen Junkies recap though.

Spider-Man is still a Sony character right now. And I imagine the contract Holland signed probably only pertains to Marvel (specifically Avengers) films, and he'd have to maybe sign a separate agreement for TV shows.

Not to mention the budget requirement to get Spidey on-screen. As is, Iron Fist is the most visually demanding special effect on-screen, and it's comparatively simple. Some LED's around his wrist, and a short bit of CG effects simulation when people get knocked back. Jessica Jones completely cuts around her flying, and Luke Cage's bulletproofness is often just breakable props and squibs. Almost every time Spidey is actually in action in the new movies, he's CG. Even if he's just standing there, his eyes are still CG.

They could get away with some more mentions here or there as long as they don't get gratuitous. But the politics around getting other heroes to appear here are far more complicated.

The only crossover that hasn't happened and really bugs me is that SHIELD really probably should've approached Luke Cage or Jessica Jones by now.

Eh... I'll defend Episode 10 of Iron Fist. It may be the only moment of that show that actually left me impressed. Even acouple of the episodes that follow are pretty okay. Last episode is pretty bad though.

Four episodes in and I'm really liking this, but gotdamn I still hate Danny. He's not even as awful as he was in IF, but that's not saying much. He's just slightly less awful. Anyway,
glad to see the team all together.

So far i am enjoying defenders

On the previous series: I actually liked iron fist. Mostly because of the villain. The only series i didnt like was The second half of dare devil season 2 and the second half of luke cage.

I just love how everybody's rolling their eyes every time Danny talks about his chi and Fist. And "I am a weapon". Dragons and k'un lun. Shut the fuck up about your chi Danny hahahaha fuck I love the guy. If he pulls off more jokes and smiles more in his second season I think he can grow on people.
