Game of Thrones *NO BOOK DISCUSSION* |OT2| Season 7 - [Read the OP]

Seriously, or they are arguing for three episodes of watching people do nothing but run through snow. That way they can complain the show is so boring. It's always going to be something with some people.

The complaint isn't that they're skipping travel scenes, it's that events that are supposed to be happening at the same time are happening way too quickly in relation to each other to be plausible given what's been established about the world in the series to this point. For a series in which geography has played such a huge role in the past, it's kind of irritating.

The Red Wedding, perhaps the most impactful and momentous event in the entire series, is entirely a result of the geography of Westeros. In the past few seasons, it just doesn't seem to matter anymore. It's perfectly valid to note this.

After Daenerys came and saw for herself and promised to fight for them, I think it was OK for Jon to "bend the knee".

She's proven herself, lost a dragon in the process.

Damn that's quick, lol.

Well Ravens and dragons both fly very quickly. But yeah it was quick.

Really, I think the fast travelling may not be as big of an issue as I previously thought. I don't think it was a problem here.

What's worse is Jon fighting off the White Walkers was absolutely unneeded. Benjen picks him up less than five minutes later and off he goes. They could have had the same exact scene with the dragon lance bullshit play out except with Jon on Drogon's back. So they made Jon an idiot for zero reason.

It's shit writing.

Yea, where exactly was he going?

Too bad they couldn't afford to show off some undead giants.

Would of been cooler if the giants were pulling the chains.

I guess they're part of a separate platoon.

Don't understand the wall. It's designed to keep the night king away, but not his droogs?

I guess the winter gives him a greater area of control buff so he can animate dead at further distance?

Stark sisters need to get their shit together, but for a moment I was legit wondering if the show was going to go Season 1 on us and have Arya shank Sansa. That certainly would have made things epic, but giving Sansa the dagger makes me wonder what she has up her sleeve.

Yup, people jumping the gun if they're so sure they are playing this straight like some have said, especially after she gives her the dagger.

Chains were probably from Hardhome. Undead army took a detour back there to get the chains, didn't show how much time had passed to go get those chains.

Good call on where they may have got them from....

I'm not complaining about time, I rarely, if ever do....it doesn't bother me.

My theories were dangerously close to being right and I did not watch the leaked episode.

I predicted the Night King would take down a dragon with a special power(not a spear) and I predicted they wouldn't be able to capture a wight, but would bring Benjen back instead(wrong, but Benjen still appeared).

Glad the mods deleted them lol. I won't be making predictions anymore.

The show has changed so dramatically from what it was a few seasons ago that you can't expect all of the long-term fans to be happy with it. Just because new people are coming in and going 'whoah!!!' doesn't mean the writing hasn't gotten worse, or that the show is now a very different kind of heroic fantasy action show from when it was a medival political intrigue and drama show that occasionally had battles.

If you're flat out lovin it, cool. People want others to know when something they have enjoyed for a long time starts to let them down, so let people say what they want to say.

I'm just playing the percentage game. Of course some people will fade away from shows they like.

On a percentage basis though week in and week out you see far more complaining in these threads about the show then you see in regular life. It is what it is, but the community here has certainly soured it seems. Though that's been going on slowly for a while now. At least since Season 5

That and the talk about brave men rushing to do stupid things.
Jon's certainly brave. Holy shit the fact that he fucking survived. Straight tears because he's such a sweet naive summer child but he's just so lovable that I wanna see him make it through everything. ;-;

At this point the best you can hope for is that Arya knows Littlefinger is trying to play her and is in turn playing him.
I'm pretty sure this is exactly the reason she didn't kill Sansa. Think that was just a warning to never betray Jon and now Arya's going after LF.

Well, if you were wondering how the Night King was going to get past the wall...

A. He could probably MELT the fucking thing with Zombie Dragon

B. He could drop "para-zombies" onto the other side to wreak havoc and infect everyone to open the gates for him.

Either way, problem solved.

The episode didn't pack the punch it should have for me because I saw the stupid ass picture spoiler on FB. Fuck me, lol.

I still enjoyed it, you really have to just throw time out the window to accept Dany arriving in time, but oh well.

Area's argument was valid. Neither she or Lyanna Mormont would've given in to the Lannisters. She understands full well why Sansa did say she did.

The night king's plan:

  • Give The Hound a vision of where there are.
  • Lead Jon over to Dany so that he has access to the dragon queen
  • Assist Tyrion in setting up a meeting with Cersei and ensure that Davos meets up with Gendry as he will be an important message deliverer later on
  • Give Jon the brilliant idea to hike north of the wall and capture a single whitewalker and bring it back to King's Landing without knowing if the whitewalker will survive the journey or if Jon and crew will survive the exfriltration
  • Have Jon meet up with The Hound so that The Hound can tell them where they need to hike
  • Set up a single roving Wight and ensure that he is easily killed while the remaining whitewalker is under the thrall of a different Wight
  • Scare the humans onto an island in the middle of a lake and make it look like you are waiting for the late to freeze over when actually you are waiting for Gendry to deliver your message to the Wall and then the raven to fly to Dany and then Dany to fly to the exact position they are at all before the lake refreezes. This is another brilliant part of the plan.
  • Then once the carefully executed plan is in motion use your ice spears in order to kill one of the weaker dragons that you knew was going to be there.
  • Keep the chains handy because you will need to drag that dragon out of the lake

A brilliant plan!

The army of the dead has to reach the wall next episode.

I don't have an issue with most of the warping/timing of things, but for this last episode to work, they have to be getting close.

Also, we've now had two fake-out drowning deaths with a main character this season, Jaime and Jon.

C'mon guys. That bait n' switch only works one fucking time.

Thoros' death was just ???, its quiet enough for them to sleep? was the captured wight only making noise sporadically

If their fire swords emit heat why didn't they use them to warm up

Also the needless stark fighting; 1st Jon keeping everyone waiting and then Benjen who definitely had all the time in the world to hop on that horse

It's always so bizarre every week watching people's reactions in the real world and how everyone thinks the show just keeps getting better / viewers keep rising.

Then you come in the threads here and you would think the show has gotten terrible. It's a night and day difference

Never confuse any message board for the real world. Ghost Recon Wild Lands would be an epic bomb going by its reaction on gaming side, but its the best selling game of the year (not including PUBG)

If I may, I have to mention how much I am reminded of Dragon Quest and Diablo in the few times I have watched this show but especially all the times this season.

"Lady Stark thanks you for your service"

That was part of the bait to wedge Arya against Sansa. Arya then finds it, thinks Littlefinger is hiding the scroll because Sansa requested.

That's why the confrontation goes the way it does.

And then when Sansa asks her where she got it, it should have at least given her pause that maybe Sansa didn't know about it.

This episode required turning your brain off a bit too often. Gendry had remarkable speed and sense of orientation for the first time past the wall and even in snow and that's just a small example. It was all too corny with not enough to redeem all the flaws this time,

The more I think about that Arya Sansa scene the more I'm like what

Why did she give her the dagger? Why didn't they talk about Littlefinger? Is the note really that secret and dangerous, didn't it get read aloud?

If they're legitimately this antagonistic it's not earned, and if Arya is this far gone it feels like a betrayal to her character and what she knows about the realm. Just weird.

Poised to attack him is such an overstatement of events considering it wasn't even flying in his general direction.

It turned to fly in his general direction. Plus, it was actively killing his soldiers from a good position, while Drogon was already grounded.

I give you permission not to let the Night King's decision to throw his spear at this dragon and not the other hinder your enjoyment of the show.

Forgot to say, farewell to Thoros.
"Funny old life."

He'll be glossed over as everyone mourns Viserion(rightfully so), but it was a quiet death as far as the series goes.

The timeline of Dany saving them might be possible depending on how far away Dragonstone is supposed to be. The Internet says Ravens fly around 50mph on average. Maybe you can give the show credit and assume dragons can fly faster than a raven. I don't know how long it took Gendry to get to the wall, but it seems like it was a couple of hours (dude did some impressive navigation in a frozen wasteland he's never been before.)

It might be possible to cover all the bases in about a day?

They all got played. That dude wanted a dragon and got it, they are in deep trouble unless Bran can get his shit together.

As far as the timeline, don't sweat it, they could have hid in a cave for two episodes, played hide and seek, then ended in the same spot. Would that make you all happier?

I wonder if Star Wars has something to do with Brienne being in so few scenes this season...

That can be said for everyone who isn't an MC this season it seems.

The fact that Tyrion was the only one walking Dany out the door when she was about to fly North was a little weird.

Where was Varys? Missandai?

Yes. I think Sansa is clearly in the wrong here. But Arya's duffel bag full of dead people's faces looks bad. I'm not gonna deny that.

...why did it have to be a plan?

To be a bit fair, people had been posting Lich King/Sindragosa shit wayyyy before the season 7 info got leaked. I've not looked at the season 7 stuff, I didn't even click the thread for that once, but I've seen seeing that Lich King stuff since season 6.

I think people have been thinking about the possibility since like Hardhome when we saw them in action.

I mean it's something that practically needs to happen with all of that set up for the Night King and how he brings back the dead. As if none of the dragons were going to die.

My thoughts:

1 - I don't know what Littlefinger's game is at this point but time is running out on the clock. The moment Danaerys shows up in HER Winterfell (it's hers now) it's over for him.
1a - People are upset about Sansa and Arya, but unless they feed Cersei to Arya, both of them are pretty much filler characters at this point. I'm not sure what they bring to the end game.
2 - This is the first huge permanent L Danaerys has taken in the series. (EDIT: Since season 1. Getting raped into Stockholm syndrome is another level of L). Her position is MUCH weaker as mother of 2 dragons instead of 3. But at least they know they can't just ride in with the dragons and instant win. It'll be interesting to see where she goes from here.
3 - Speaking of borrowed time, Cersei. Assuming she doesn't try something stupid like trying to blow Danaerys' group up with Wildfire, she should be a good snake in the grass for season 8 since Danaerys' entire focus is on the Night King now. Cersei will never, ever put the Night King ahead of ruling on the iron throne.
4 - Jon's heritage is the biggest secret left in the series and it has to come out with enough time to flip the table upside down. I was hoping it would before he bent the knee, but ...

At this point the best you can hope for is that Arya knows Littlefinger is trying to play her and is in turn playing him.

I'm pretty sure that's why she handed Sansa the dagger. She knew Sansa was being played. Expect either a dead Little Finger or Arya next week is my guess.
