SNES Classic Preorder Shitshow Discussion (Please Read Rules in OP)

Why? I've seen plenty of people here say they ordered multiples for whatever reason. And nobody attacked them (except that one dude who ordered 68 from Amazon, lol).

G L O B A L B O Y Z + multiple orders will just draw ire. The former especially. You're not a scalper, so just ignore it.

I guess my last hope is to just camp out in front of the Nintendo store

SNES is my favorite console. But I hate having to constantly use my cartridges and adding wear to my minty boxes.

Yikes. Nintendo Store is probably the worst place to try to get one at launch. Good luck!

Taking in consideration there were a lot of fans here on GAF that weren't able to secure just one for their own use, some people can get frustrated. Posts of others going on about their multiple orders for an item they are dying to get just one of can lead to tempers flaring. I'm not condoning that, but it's just common sense and comes off as poor taste, in my opinion.
I understand that and can empathize with it. I know how I would feel if I were in the other side of the fence right now.

But I also know that if I only ordered 1 from Amazon instead of 3 that wasn't going to help any of the pissed off people here who woke up long after they were sold out. In fact me ordering a couple more units than I need will most likely make some GAFers/friends thank me for helping them get one, just like what happened with the Switch launch.

Indeed. Like I said in an earlier post, you basically got folks who are making lemonade with the lemons given to them. Nintendo makes a bullshit market that's profitable. The odd thing is that I have no idea how the scarcity helps Nintendo.
Honestly, the only thing I can think of is, the media buzz and craze it creates for your brand when you have hot items in limited supply. But then again, you have those that become disenchanted with your brand when you seemingly control stock to artificially create demand and interest in your products. Would the Switch have been at such high demand had people not so recently had a taste of Nintendo scarcity with the NES Classic? Who knows for sure, but it is one possibility why Nintendo seems to do this.

Wow, might as well cancel your preorders now.
Still hope there was a recording problem (maybe it just captured the SNES Classic output at 30fps?) or if the unit can be modded that SNES9X 1.54.1 will run fullspeed on it.

If not then I'll just sell my two SNES Classics later on. Or maybe I'll keep one for the SNES-pads and get a Wii-to-USB-adapter to use them on PC.

Yeah, man...I think that's cool of you. I actually edited my post to better clarify that I wasn't pointing fingers at you, more just commenting on the current environment that this shit show has produced for many fans, leaving them a bit disenfranchised and rightfully so.

Maybe they think brand hype/association is something they're going to need later on, or the folks at the top just like that social media presence. Any press is good press, as the saying goes.

F them (Nintendo) though. I know I own 15 of the games on that list, and lucky for me I don't care too much about Kirby. The rest of the stuff I can get through VC. I'd be more than happy to give Nintendo more money for this thanks to the nostalgia, but if they don't want it it's not like I can't legally play them.

Their loss I guess, even if it is a drop in the ocean.

Damn - the SNES Classic drops frames!

See this Wii U-emulation comparison for yourself (watch in 720p60): Super NES Classic vs Wii U Virtual Console - Head-to-Head Emulation Comparison

Super smooth on Wii U. Not so much on the SNES Classic. :|
Even Super Mario World (the least demanding game) doesn't scroll smoothly.

Meh. The NES Classic emulator was one of the better ones out there. I have no reasons to believe they won't deliver another solid emulator. I built a Retropie and dealing with the emulators in that was plagued with issues. The sound had issues, some of the games were affected by changing different settings, the controllers suck, getting adapters for the original controllers was a hassle.

The SNES classic is worth it for the controllers alone IMO. Then you have the plastic mold, and a collection of the best games the SNES had.

I will wait until the thing is released to make a final judgement. But based on the NES Classic, I have faith in Nintendo to deliver another quality product.

Honestly, the only thing I can think of is, the media buzz and craze it creates for your brand when you have hot items in limited supply.

A friend of mine was proposing a similar theory. Nintendo likes having things that are in-demand and making more headlines that their products are hard to get, which creates an even stronger demand for them. Yes, it's off-putting to their regular consumers but they likely believe this type of news helps garner more attention from their non-regular consumers. The people who haven't played a Nintendo game since before the Wii, but would buy that machine to play the stuff they liked as kids.

It's either that Nintendo likes all of the attention or they're grossly incompetent when it comes to manufacturing. Those are the two most likely scenarios I can surmise for the NES and SNES Classic situations.

I'm surprised more and more don't talk about the Wii VC. It has a huge library, and really can have a nice pick of the litter from a selection of many consoles, including TG-16. I guess people haven't kept their Wii's :(

Amazon cancelled 50 of the 80 I ordered, still going to hook gaffers up if they send that package of 30.

Welp...if they don't cancel those, people here will still have better odds of purchasing one from you.

In other news, Amazon now has more stock because of this? I wonder how many other bulk purchases had the same fate. I'm just waiting for the "LIMITED QUANTITIES! SNES CLASSIC PRE-ORDER FOR PRIME USERS" graphic to appear before release.

I love talking about the Wii VC, and ours is still hooked up. I made a couple threads about it but they didn't get a ton of traction. I'd always be happy to read one if you want to make another. :)

Flickering shadow vs. no shadow at all on Wii U.

If that gamexplain video is captured correctly it's showing that the Wii U version is solid frame rate while the SNES mini was skipping multiple frames per second, if you look at the shadows in Mario Kart they pretend to be transparent by flickering on and off every frame, you can see the frame skips on the SNES mini very easily.

Don't care much for the quality of emulation as I don't plan as playing much on it, I just wanted the two Wii compatible Classic Controllers to play Wii VC on CRT.

I feel like that video must have had some capture problems or something, I've seen other videos where SMW scrolls rock solid.

The Wii VC was amazing. It had third party support, multiple generations of consoles, and actually exposed me to a cheap and easy way to experience tg-16 and neogeo.

It got hit with delistings over time and I really doubt they'll hit those highs ever again with whatever VC ends up being on the Switch.

I'm hoping Amazon opens up another batch at some point before release. I still have gift card balance ready on there because I didn't know they were going to do it at fucking 4am est yesterday.

got email confirmation finally for Think Geek. Came in last night, checked the order number on Celery and all looks good so far.

I wonder how many people who bought the bundles will legitimately get use out of the crap that comes with them.

I wouldnt mind using the canteen as like a pen holder or something.

Did they send you an email about it? What did it say?

That's how I see it as well. Although I do wish the emulation was perfect; it's partly why I skipped the NES Classic, but yeah 2x perfect SNES controllers with Wii-plugs make the package irresistible at $80.

Any word on Super Famicom Classic JP pre-orders. I’m really interested on this version than the US version that I’ll be able to pick up in retail throughout the year.

Seems so at first glance. But if you then look at the Wii U footage and then at the SNES Classic again you'll see it doesn't run as smooth.

Most people that commented that vid on YT didn't seem to have noticed it either.
But to me it's very apparent.
Watching it again, I do notice the bushes in SMW have very slight stutter that couldn't be noticed unless I was paying attention to them.

In SMK, the shadows are darker and have a tad more stutter, but even then, doesn't really matter to me.

Even if this is what the classic runs like, it's not that big of a deal.

Did anyone get a confirmation email from ThinkGeek? I haven’t gotten anything aside from the authorization to charge my account but even that has no order number

Excuse me for being blind, but I don't notice any difference.

I think the easiest way to tell that I saw, is if you watch the shadow on Lakitu's cloud at every lap. The shadow "flickers" when compared to the Wii U screen. I had to watch the video multiple times to even notice a difference between the two, so don't feel alone in being "blind" lol. Not a deal breaker for me, but honestly it should be fixed (and hopefully will be) before its released, especially if the NES classic doesn't have the same problem.

How the hell do people end up with multiple? Bots I'm assuming? I had it in my cart from 3 different places. Wal-Mart was literally the second it went live. Received errors during checkout at every store. Will have to wait in line at a toys r us or something. No way I'm giving a dime to a scalper. To think they are now selling for 300 bucks is crazy. Obviously people pay it.

As for people wondering why stock is so low, it's Nintendo. They love the attention and the culture surrounding their products. Which is too bad. What I have to go through to get one for my son is disgusting. I know others in the same boat. People brag about having a bunch and most can't even get one.

After getting the rug pulled out from under me on Walmart's website at noon and Target's shortly there after, I was able to get five orders processed from Target at the 4:39 CST wave they released.
