Echo Dot was showing for free on Amazon Prime

I'm really excited about the possibilities with this thing.

We just placed a Domino's order and got 20% off, too! The speaker on this thing is remarkable. I can't believe this device doesn't Google, but instead idea Bing. I'm likely going to install the unofficial "Ask Google" skill in my spare time.

I've identified six or seven switches that I want to install z-wave smart switches behind so I can control lights and fans throughout the apartment. I'll likely buy a dozen or so smart bulbs to go with it, and I'm already planning on getting two more Dots so we can intercom in the kitchen, living room, and bedroom.

Mine shipped Friday night and everything was set to deliver on Sunday. That never happened. Now, they're saying "contact us if you don't get it by the 22nd"

I don't think im getting it. I bet that when I contact them, they tell me it's a mistake and that's that :(

I have a tracking number but USPS is down

Usps rep I talked to said they are having system issues and it’s causing delays in some areas. I’m in the same boat as you, so here’s hoping that’s all it is.

I got that too but mine arrived today. The tracking still hasn't updated to show that it was delivered though.

Same exact situation. Guess I'll wait until the 22nd and see what happens.

Same here. Hopefully, someone with the same situation will be able to shed some light on which way this will go soon.

If you have the "Return item" option on your order page, try pressing that, choosing the option for missing item or whatever, and ordering a replacement. I did that and I have a replacement coming Wednesday, although it hasn't shipped yet so it might get cancelled too.

Between this and the two pack of Wi-Fi switches I got for 13 bucks, now all of my lights in my apartment are voice controlled (I had two set up already)

Just tested out the intercom feature as well as the ability to call the house from the phone. This is cool. And so going to be used a lot.

Did it ever update to say that USPS had received it? I'm still showing something that says that it's in transit to USPS.
Now the tracking says out for delivery but when I received it I think it said it was either at or on the way to my local post office to be delivered by USPS.

I just checked the shipping on mine, and it departed the Amazon shipping center in Aurora, Co.

It's being delivered to South Dakota, I'll be surprised if it gets snagged at this point.

My last one that hasn't been cancelled yet said it was going to come today but hadn't been shipped I contacted Amazon and they said some nonsense and now it got pushed to tomorrow but still hasn't shipped. I wouldn't care as much but I actually ordered it with other items and those items haven't been shipped yet either.

Thanks, I only see options for returning it though. I'll try again on the 23rd and see if it gives me the option.

Put one of the Echo Dots in the bathroom so now my apartment has | complete | global | saturation

Once multi-room audio hits things are gonna be bumpin'

Got mine all set up in my bedroom. Ordered an additional smart light bulb so I can now control the desk lamp without needing to strech and manover out of the way to turn on / off. Also got my sound machine hooked up. Very important there was super convienent to turn on / off from voice since sometimes I might want to trun it on / off to listen to videos / games without getting out of bed.

This was no accident.

I'm also looking into buying wifi lights now.

Incredibly Naive
This was no accident.

I thought it was silly their stock dropped a bit supposedly as a result of this. All this is going to do is get more people spreading their product, integrating their smart products into their life, and hooked on the alexa line. It really is an amazing piece of tech though.

Mine is marked as delayed, and the tracking number shows that the USPS is still waiting on it. Not sure if it's going to happen or not, but it was worth a shot.

Now you just need voice activated air freshener dispensers.

WHAT ARE YOU IMPLYING

We're listening to you poop.

Hoop da poop

I mean, it probably was a clear price error, but they'll make the best of it. I was already hooked into the Alexa ecosystem anyways, but this helped push me to try to automate everything.

Well, I just used the $5 credit they gave me for "canceling" my order (I recieved the item on my doorstep about 12 hours before they "canceled" it), so I somehow made $5 by agreeing to take this item into my house.

Not a bad deal! I like play Jeopardy on it while cooking dinner lol

Did yours ever ship?

Perhaps I can offer a bit of hope for some of you guys.

I ordered one and my order disappeared. I then, a few days later, got an email about how they had to cancel it and gave me the $5 credit.

However, I just got a notification that they shipped me one and will be here Thursday. The order has now returned to my order history when it had completely vanished before. I never messaged them about this or anything.

This is super weird.

This was all a covert experiment by Amazon. They are going to specifically track all the free ones to see how long it takes them to become profitable. If its under 60 days, their drone army will be dropping dots off at every known address in the US within a week of the experiments end.

I had ordered two, one was cancelled and the other just arrived.

Actually can't believe I got one, I usually miss out of price errors like this.

I made a mistake earlier in the thread. In that post I thanked the OP for letting us know as I had gotten a free Echo Dot.

I'm taking that back as I'm now obsessed with finding everything possible that I can use Alexa for. It started simple with a creating a timer here or there. It moved on to lists. Then it snowballed into me ordering a Logitech Harmony Hub this morning that I now have set up (it's amazing). Now I'm researching Alexa enabled light switches, lights, etc.

None of this was even on my radar before I experienced how amazingly excellent the Echo Dot is at hearing and understanding my voice commands. I have to go out of my way for it to not understand me. It's lightyears ahead of Siri, its incredible and I'm starting to fear they've shoved a really small person into the Dot who is transcribing my phrases and performing the actions I request.

Long story short, thanks a lot OP for helping me become addicted to creating a Smarthome. Ugh.

Mine never showed up on Sunday. Order was never cancelled though and still shows a delivery date of yesterday. I have the option to order a replacement but that just sent me an email saying it couldn't be done and to contact customer service. I guess the dream is dead. Didn't even get the $5 credit.

Yep, same for me.

If u didn't get the credit talk to them and they will give it to you. I had the same problem and they gave me credit on the phone then the next day sent me that cancellation email credit so I have 10$. My replacement for the late order is still shipping soon...

Um wait you called to demand credit for your illicit free Dot? Cajones...

Also I just found out about jeopardy in this thread. Are there other games?

My order "shipped" Friday and was supposed to get here Sunday. After I didn't get it today I just chatted with CS to see what was going on. Said the order was cancelled (I didn't get an email about that) and it was being sent back to Amazon, which would make sense why the tracking wasn't updating. They wound up giving me a $5 credit without asking which was nice. Congrats to the folks who actually did get one for free.

Same here. I'm researching smart bulbs, outlets and hubs. I will probably end up getting a second dot for the kitchen.

It fascinates me how people have such different experiences with these different voice devices. Siri seems to always understand me even when I stumble through a text or do long pauses. With my Dot though I don't know how many times I say "Alexa..." and it lights up but then I'll give a command and after a few seconds it just turns off. Then I'll try it again, same volume and distance from it and she'll hear me just fine.

First of all, no, I called to maybe get someone to reinstate the order. And second, there are some in here who called to try to get even more out of Amazon after already getting the 5$!

The dream is dead though, my replacement for the cancelled free one was cancelled and I got no options left. Damn.

Friend of mine had his order intercepted so it was never actually given to USPS.
No info on the order though so he inquired and they sent him a replacement.

The replacement never shipped, and showed cancelled later that night (tonight).

He inquired one more time, and they setup a 2nd replacement.

I wonder if he'll ever get one.

Mine still shows as shipped, but never made it to the USPS. They give me the option to get a replacement, but when I try that I get an email saying they can't do a replacement order.

Oh well, sounds like rather than cancel it they're just not shipping it. Can't really blame them.

I set mine up in my kitchen. There's a full Echo in the next room, and what impresses me is that it seems to know which one you're talking to - the one in the living room can certainly "hear" me, but it's appropriately activating the new Dot in the kitchen every time.

Neat!

Any other reccs on Kitchen functionality beyond timers?

Pretty sure it can do recipes and cooking instructions, but I haven't used mine for that yet

Ya, once they added in being able to determine which one is the closest, that's when I started to distribute these through the house. Although I ran into a problem with that with one I just placed recently that caused it to be problematic to turn off an alarm in the kitchen because I was closer to another one so I could never do it.

There's a native recipe app that got added a few months ago that you just tell it what type of recipe you want or what you have and it'll give you a recipe. Then you just interact with it by telling it next to move to the next step.

I think it's actually just the AllRecipies skill. There are a couple that are default enabled. I think Fandango is another one. It's more apparent on the Echo Show because it has a logo and doesn't quite navigate as well as Amazon's default visual skills.
