I have parachute kids from China who are my new neighbors. As far as I can tell, there are 3 of them. And some older Chinese lady who comes by during the day to clean or cook or something, I'm unsure. She's super nice.

But these kids are bar none the worst neighbors I've ever had. The girl, already knocked over my motorcycle with her Quattroporte, and didn't even try and apologize or give me her insurance info. In fact, she didn't even bother to attempt to fix her parking, as you can tell the motorcycle was pushed by the car about 6 feet on its side. I had to drop a complaint on her to get her to respond.

The boys. The boys are, I dunno. For the most part they seem like giant teenagers. I usually only see them carrying armloads of streetwear in the elevator. But they spit in the elevator foyer all the time. WTF. But I've seen them try and flex on other people in the building, like bullying? Hasn't happened to me yet.

I hope they move out soon.

i just never remember peoples names
at most i can slightly remember their faces
and if i do, I'm just all
"hey man / bud / friend"
I never say hi to old acquaintances if I pass them on the street (if I even notice them) because I can never be sure if that's even them. I don't want to call out to them and then turn out it wasn't them. 😳

Dammit! We all don't look alike ;_;

No. I know. I recognize some people when I'm out and about but I just don't say anything for the same reason you said, lol. I have to acknowledge them only when I'm out and about with my older siblings though. Then it doesn't look quite as bad because my older siblings are often the ones to say hi to them.

First I've heard of the term "parachute kids" - you learn something new everyday.

I dealt with plenty parachute kids as clients at my old job, and most of them definitely flex hard on some seriously gaudy streetwear stuff. Lots of Bape and Moschino.

I think my cousins were hypebeasts, all of the hand me downs they gave me were expensive branded stuff that I was oblivious to so I always got roasted for it. Still do lul.
I think I might be the youngest (I certainly feel that way sometimes, haha)? I'm 22.
19 year old here, but I bet there's an even younger fellow among us. I started foruming at like eleven...

Oh god my wasted teens ㅍ_ㅠ

Haha. I'm old enough to be your dad. Not even like in a "I had a kid young." Way. But the, "I graduated college, got married and started a family." Respectable way.

Ayyy, I won't hold it against ya ;). It's funny because if we met in a Korean social setting I'd be expected to behave in a much different way.

Parachute kids? That's a new one. I've only heard them referred to as satellite kids. It's insane how wealthy these mainlanders are. Back when I was in HS, those type of kids were typically from HK or Taiwan and they'd drive expensive Mercedes and BMWs. The kids coming out of the mainland drive Maserati's and up now.

I dunno man. The way half my family reacts to me because of my haircuts and forearm tattoos, I don't think anyone will expect you to act any differently around me.

As someone who still plays the clarinet from school days, if I ever get kids they'll be getting a taste of different instruments rather than being forced to learn piano/theory. No recorder either!

I think I read in that political haircut thread you have the undercut/two block, isn't that fairly normal? Forearm tattoos fair enough, guess that means you're the hip uncle/dad :^)

and probably a sport. Personally I'm hoping they get into water polo, though lacrosse is okay I guess.

Training from six in muay thai. BJJ at ten in tandem. Then wrestling in high school. Put it all together at 20 in MMA in peak physical shape.

Plus his first car will be a motorcycle.

I went to Montessori. My son is currently in one.

That Caltech school, when I visited, had 5 year olds building trusses and bridges. It had 4 year olds categorizing plants.

This is shit I can't do now.

I walk back into this thread for a bit and y'all are EV training your children.

My parents weren't great at that. They basically just put me into everything (football, basketball, martial arts, chess, a crapton of casual reading, art, music, etc.)

All that ended up doing was making me well rounded. B+ tier in pretty much everything (except fighting. That's an A), which is cool but I sorta regret not sticking to one thing and getting really good at it, and now as an adult I'm pretty indecisive.

I'm glad I don't have kids to have to spend this money on. I have nephews to spoil though. I think everyone is getting Anki's this year for Xmas.

Geez my wife and I can barely plan ahead for ourselves, let alone future hypothetical children. Do you all really think kids need that leg up with extra tutoring, college planning, etc.? My parents definitely winged it and my wife had to do everything herself because of language issues, so we have no template to follow. Things like signing up for preschool before your child is even born sounds ridiculous.

How'd we do on SNES classics y'all?

I got one mainly because my 2 month old was screaming at midnight and the Best Buy preorders happened to go up then.

I have a preorder that I will probably end up giving to a friend. I ever had a SNES so I really don't have any nostalgia vested in it.

I only managed to get in on the earlier walmart preorder where all orders were cancelled.
Missed out on everything today. I managed to get it to go to my cart once at target but for some reason I also had titanfall 2 in the cart. by the time i got titanfall 2 deleted the snes was gone too.

I'll probably have to camp the nintendo store in the end.

I friggin love NHK, such a great channel.
Yeah, It has been an invaluable help in keeping me up to date on current East Asian events for my East Asian Studies Minor now if only they didn't mess up the Android app interface with one of the latest updates which makes looking for an individual series much harder.

I just stream through their website on my laptop.

I love when it's sumo tournament season, haha.

Hey Asian-GAF, figured I'd post this here since I'm seriously fiending for a vacation. I know most of us live in the US but eh why not right: anybody live in the following countries and would let me send money to you? It's not a scam, I'm trying to get a vacation from my job, I'll explain below (lol):

- China
- India
- Philippines
- Bangladesh
- Indonesia
- Malaysia
- Singapore
- Thailand
- Vietnam

So, here's the deal. I work for an international money transfer company, we just launched in Asia. (I'd rather not post directly where I work, since I don't care about promoting my own company (lol). I can provide all the relevant details from licenses to business registrations, to my linkedin. Hell, I can take a video of a tour of the office if you want to prove that we're legit.) Anyways, a few weeks ago, we launched an internal competition amongst the team to try and see who could market our product and acquire the most users. Meaning, if I can get enough people to sign up and send a transfer to someone in those above 9 countries, I can win.

The first place prize? Round trip airfare plus hotel for the winner plus a guest to one of our newly launched Asia countries. (Maximum value of $4000)

So, that got me thinking: I'm overworked and haven't travelled in forever... so screw playing fair. I want that vacation. Even if I "invest" a couple hundred dollars, if I win I still come out on top. I can line up people willing to create accounts and send money, but finding people to receive that money is a lot harder.

Pros: The amount of money per transaction I'm willing to send/you'd receive will be small but decently sized (a minimum of 50 USD).

Cons: I think the risks and downsides are quite obvious: Uh, for one, I'd need your information to send the money to you. I can tell you straight up and promise that I wouldn't use it for any nefarious, but this is the internet and you should always view things skeptically. Secondly, depending on where you live and how you'd like the cash, the amount of requirements is higher. As an example, if I'm sending money to you for cash pickup, and you live in the Philippines, I just need your City, Province, and Full Name. That's already a lot, but it's doable. However, if I'm trying to send to a bank account in say... China, I need that same information, but also either your bank or debit card number. I would really try avoid that, but honestly at this point I'll take any transfers I can get.

Would anyone be interested? I don't care what you do with the money and I don't need to be paid back. If this is received cooly (and I would completely understand why), I'll just remove it.

My wife lives in Vietnam, what information would you need?

Damn..... Bad Rap was a good documentary. It focuses primarily on Dumbfoundead, Awkwafina, Rekstizzy, and Lyricks, but it showed their journey and they did it good. The best and worst part
the agencies just giving straight truth bombs towards the aforementioned rappers.

I highly recommend it to anybody who likes rap/hip-hop and not just Asian American rap/hip-hop.

The beginning definitely needed to be more expounded upon though.

I'm not particularly an expert in this but I do have an interest.

I don't believe in the Tiger Mom or Eagle Dad approach but I do think the early development is crucial because it make things so much easier in the long run. Piquing their curiosity and getting them to like learning is as important as cultivating a child's aptitude.

TBH, I would rather received the bare minimum you need to pass this off as legitimate.

Holy shit fam.... Just holy shit at the amount of families with Neo-Nazi, Nazi, and KKK symbols at the MN State Fair. I cannot tell you how many times I saw:

And

I was fucking astounded fam. Just shocked..... The worst part is that these folks weren't even scared of showing these hate symbols. They wore shirts, and tattoos, and were out and about with it! The fuck Minnesota?!!!!!?!

that is honestly so fucked

It is, and I really wanted to say something, but I was there with family and friends and just wanted to have fun. I didn't want to "ruin" the fun for my family and friends, ya know?

I was really just shocked. I know they existed and are among the regular folks, but it still shocked me.

The Gadsden flag is a historical American flag with a yellow field depicting a rattlesnake coiled and ready to strike. Positioned below the rattlesnake are the words "DONT TREAD ON ME."[note 1] The flag is named after American general and politician Christopher Gadsden (1724–1805), who designed it in 1775 during the American Revolution. It was used by the Continental Marines as an early motto flag, along with the Moultrie flag.

Modern uses of the Gadsden flag include political movements such as libertarianism and the American Tea Party as well as American soccer supporter groups, including Sam's Army and the American Outlaws since the late 1980s.
