America Magazine | Sean Spicer finally gets to meet Pope Francis
A group of legislators and politicians from around the world gathered in Italy this week for a meeting of the International Catholic Legislators Network, where they were received by Pope Francis at the Vatican. Among those gathered was Sean Spicer, the former White House press secretary who was by some accounts snubbed by President Trump in May.

Mr. Spicer, a Catholic, had expressed a desire to meet Pope Francis, but he was left off the list of U.S. officials who accompanied the president to the Vatican.

Sean Spicer was/is a willing enabler of one of the darkest political periods in America's history and I will never forget that but he is a sincere Catholic and in this very particular moment I'm happy for him.

Good for him. Dude did spew a bunch of terrible shit from the podium in service of the president but for this one moment, I'm happy for him.

That would be one long ass confession.

At least one positive thing came out of this whole debacle for him.

Ha the Pope's smiling too.

Spicer's going to need to do a few extra Hail Mary's though to wash off the stink of Trump administration.

I feel extremely weird for actually feeling a little happy for him, just as I felt extremely weird for feeling a little bad when I read that he wasn't invited.

He doesn't deserve my emotions, and yet here I am.

He bailed that trash fire administration earlier than most people so I gotta give him props for that.

On the other hand, they got Sarah Huckabee-Sanders and she clearly relishes being that orange pisstain's mouthpiece.

That's the problem with all these folks with any semblance of integrity leaving: it just leaves room for all the crazy Drumpf stumpers and duplicitous snakes to take their place.

Why the fuck is everyone in this thread happy for him? Am I missing some obvious sarcasm??

All this guy deserves is to be buried under the massive pile of shit that came out of his mouth during these past months.

Come on, it's a fantastic religion. Just say you're sorry for being human (or a shit human, sometimes) and you're of to heaven. Awesome morals. Awesome benefits.

I'm not up on my latest Catholic dogma. Is chewing too much gum a sin?

Oh, and you better believe this will be an SNL skit with Melissa McCarthy and Kyle Mooney.

Awww I have a soft spot in my heart for Spicer because even if he was saying horrible things, he atleast found ways to make it entertaining from in that bush.

I wouldn’t go that far, but there is some appeal in how transparent he was with his lies and spins, much like that former Iraqi Information Minister.

He's a tragi-comic character, people can relate to his story of a probably alright guy that sells his soul for a little slice of power, and then has to walk the earth for the rest of his days as a figure of ridicule and pity. I get it.

Because even though he's an asshole, Trump denying letting him meet with the Pope was like ten times the pointless assholeishness

I wonder who hooked him up with the visit.

People are probably happy for him because Trump screwed him over in a way that seemed particularly heartless when he met the Pope the first time. I don't care for Spicer but I hate disloyalty from hypocrite Trump even more.

Eh, I'm kind of good with Spicey. A lot of people saying that he felt that being a press sec was a national duty kind of thing rather than because he was in with Trump's insane right wing Russia shit.

Glad he's gone. Love me some Spicer.

Evil recognizes evil

Yep the pope and the commission he set up to deal with pedophiles in the church has had people forced out and quit. This week in fact an Italian documentary here hits on pope and church and the cover up of it all again while sweeping the scandals under the rug and 2/3 priests guilty still get to work and possibly commit crime. As none of the promised tribunals was ever established and priests bishops are still not ordered or even instructed to contact authorities of crimes they witness or suspect.
