I think this actually may be the most savage burn on a game I've seen on GAF in a long time.

This is the exact reason why a 70 metacritic score isn't good. While it might mean that the game is "ok" from an overall quality perspective, most gamers are not going to pay $50-$60 dollars for it. The average gamer is far pickier than that. Unless a game precisely matches the gamer's niche, it takes an 80+ score for a game to grab their attention. A 70 score would only be good if games normally cost $20.

Woo. Accurate tho. The game is horrible. I regret paying the $35 I did pay for it (like 2 weeks after release LOL)
I think saying DR4 is mediocre is being nice.

LOL AT the BK reference. I also feel your pain. I also bought it for 35 2 weeks after. I beat the game the same day I got it. Beyond short! I quicky went on Ebay and sold it for 30.
I felt gross owning that game.

Its not just that, this game is not even offensively bad like Ride to Hell to at least gives u some emotion. D4 is just blaaaaaaaaaaaand.
Its like developers actively sucked out all the personality, charm and fun out of the first game to make this.
Please listen to this man. I dont usually come out to say this but dont give Capcom anymore money for this turd.

Though you can at least play every main title except 3 on PS4 now.
DR1, DR2, DR:OTR, and DR4 will now be on PS4.
With that said though. OTR isn't actually canon and Case Zero and Case West are. However those are either under some exclusivity i'm unaware of or capcom was just not feeling like porting them.
Right now PC or Xbox are the only places you can play the entire series. I will say though Capcom seemed to know this and DR4 has very few ties to DR4 if any. I think the ending of DR3 comes into play and that's about it. I'd say capcom I suspect expects people to have played only DR1 and then for some reason go right to DR4.

Unless they're remaking the game from ground up, don't waste your time. Dead Rising 4 was one of the biggest pieces of garbage I've ever played, and this is coming from someone who is a huge fan of the first 3 games, 1 & 2 in particular. It's probably only coming to PS4 to salvage some sells, since it did so poorly on Xbox and for good reason.

God I miss the hard to target controls and boss fights where normal humans took 200 shots to kill. Those GameStop bargain bins full of fandom must be about sharing the love for a low price of $4.99 to keep the passion alive. JK, Dead Rising 1 is still kind of fun. So is 2-4

Sure it is just the timer.... Steam, metacritic and even the ratings on MS official site be damned. All of them are just fanboys whining over timer.
Except the number one complaint I see that the game is boring on every site, except for steam which apparently the PC version crashed alot.

So I actually haven't seen that much mentions of timers from those that voted game down. And to be honest, people would forgive changes like that if game turned out to be good. Changing from an established recognizable formula AND being boring/bad. Just makes situation worse.

Finished Dead Rising 1 to 3 multiple times. Just bought Dead Rising 4 this week, currently 7 hours in and I honestly can't understand the hate. The gameplay has been streamlined, for example you can't throw melee weapons anymore, which is a shame, but then again, I really enjoy switching between melee, firearms and throw weapons mid combo. The world is huge! They remade the large city from Dead Rising 3, but with a shopping mall like Dead Rising 1. The extra additions like exo-suit are simply awesome and fun. The camera is greatly improved, the nightvision and infrared are cleverly implemented.
The timer in the first two games, was a clever and unique mechanic. But it became tedious really fast, not to mention, annoying as hell when doing a new game+. The game has become less challenging, but it's still fun, which is the primary reason I play video games ..
So, to all people who haven't played DR4, please don't listen to all the hate and try the game for yourself. If the developers re-make the same game over and over, people would complain that it's lazy and boring. If developers change or evolve the game, people complain that it isn't the same game anymore ..

It's an ok game with absolutely no substance and only worth it if you have absolutely no other games to play. Horrible Dead Rising game. Terrible story, even to DR's standards too.

It's funny how people rag on the game for not having the timer. The time was the worst part of the game in the old games for me. I hate being rushed in games at any time.

Not a particularly good game unfortunately. Finished it on PC after getting it on sale and while it's fun to mow down hordes of zombies for a while it gets old real fast. Characters are bland at best and annoying assholes at worst (not in a fun way either). Story is forgettable overall and the mission design is especially uninspired.
Being back to Willimette means nothing when the game does its best to stay away from everything that made Dead Rising be.... Dead Rising
And no, that doesn't mean just the timers, before the obsessed dude in this thread quote me too

I remember a comparison video showing off a bunch of stuff you could do in the mall in DR1 that you can't do in DR4 - like physics stuff, where you could knock over or interact with stuff.

Well that's missing the forest for the trees.
The removal of the timer is the least of DR4's problems. It's bad as a Dead Rising game and it's bad at being a zombie killing game.

He is. By name only. The mall is basically complete different as is the surrounding area. You do hear the original songs though.
