I don't want to come off as ignorant here but I have a hard time believing people in Europe don't understand that that word is offensive.

He wasn't. But seeing as you mentioned on the previous page that you've been called that word before, your reaction is completely understandable.

Especially given a few of the posts in this thread, as we see above.

It has to be noted that Europe at large is very oblivious when it comes to their racism.

But he wasn't. So its irrelevant.

A lot of you people don't realize how much "nigger" hurts African Americans emotionally on the inside when used.

Its not something we can throw back at anyone else with an equivalent phrase. we have a history of hundreds upon hundreds of years of traumatization ingrained in us from that word.

There is no word like it, that is why it is specifically used by white people for shock value either online or offline to dehumanize black americans. You have to understand this before dismissing criticism of someone using that word. We only became 'free' 40 years ago or so, and its obvious we still have a long way to go.

In this case him being from EU doesn't explain him using the n word. Especially like he did.

It might've been relevant if he was singing a song and slipped or a more innocent context but here he uses it as an insult and a very deliberate one.

Racial slurs aren't a worldwide thing but here he knows that shouldn't use it and still did.

Is n***r that offensive??? I'm from EU and had to watch the video to know what n***r actual means...

I'm not that in into US culture... were does the word really come from? sounds like a variation of negro.

I don't give a fuck about PewDiePie to be true I may have just whatsched it two times and quitted his videos 'cause found them annoying.

Are you for fucking real? Educate yourself for crying out loud.

People make mistakes. Ryan Davis once said faggot on stream, should I have called him homophobic?

First, Davis didn't have a history. Second, do you remember Ryan Davis's response? He was clearly mortified, very apologetic, promised never to do it again, and then never did it again (it's this last part that's especially important).

People make mistakes. That's not what's happening here, this is a sustained pattern of behavior.

"Felix" indeed. Clearly your opinion comes from a detached, impartial point of view.
I say some very foul stuff when I'm pissed off (believe me, I'm Spanish; I'd make your ears bleed), and sometimes this includes when I'm playing, but racist slurs aren't among these. You don't unthinkingly say a word unless you've been saying it a lot in private too.
Strongly agree with this. Thankfully I think this is the second to last nail in the coffin for pewdiepie.

Are you six years old or is this the first time you've had contact with the outside world?

And you guys keep giving him attention with threads like this and wonder why he keeps doing it.

Dumb. A conversation about the situation isn't giving him anything. What is happening is the opposite. It's exposing him for the shitheel that he is. And with the added bonus of having an illustration of "This is unacceptable. This is what you should not do" for those that don't quite get it yet.

I'd love to know what country you are from that the N word is not known to you.

It'll be pretty hard for Pewdiepie to weasel his way out of this one. You don't just accidentally call someone that word.

Damn. This is the reason why I skip the n-word when I sing a rap song in the shower.

Is that the guy who was Anti-Gamergate until a woman criticised The Witcher 3 and he became Pro-Gamergate?

Yup, that's him.

Maturity, bitches.
Even if you think we live is a parallel universe where the term isn't offensive; He still used it to refer to someone negatively.

His second description, and thus substitute for the n-word, for the one he was insulting was "asshole". Therefore he's calling someone black as if that's a negative thing to be; literally, the person is apparently black and thus an arsehole. So, even if you don't believe the n-word to be offensive, the context he used it is would still be offensive.

Also, he said "sorry" (casually, not sincerely), so he was clearly aware what he just said was wrong.

It might do you lot a spot of good if you use some perspective yourselves. If someone clearly states that they may not be familiar with the culture or issue at hand, and they ask a question to gain some understanding, maybe try to educate them or point them toward some resources like some other posters did instead of jumping down their throat or trying to silence them out of hand and making yourselves look insufferable. I understand there are a lot of trolls and actual hateful people in these types of threads, but let's not make that a blanket assumption.

I'm not a teacher I don't have to tell someone about the context of a word...they should take it upon themselves to know.

"Do the best you can to know better. Then when you know better, do better"

Why is anyone even pretending anymore? Everyone is aware that he's a racist, just some people love him for it. There's no need for mental gymnastics here.

We need multiple 50+ page threads about it. I don't think we've quite established he's a racist ass yet.

i'm surprised it took this long for him to say it

like idk about his streaming habits but given how prominent he is i assume he's done lots of streams before and unlike recorded videos where he can edit stuff out this is him unflitered

How is there even context, it's never appropriate for a media personality, especially one that greatly influences young kids like PewDiePie, to ever say the n word. Needs to be kicked off YouTube and Twitch.

Why are some people acting like the USA is the only place where the N word is used as a racist slur?

At this point, I have to wonder if Americans deserve the reputation for being ignorant because if you talk to any Black person living in outside the US they'd tell you that they get called the n word or regional variants of that word because anti-blackness is a global affair.

Does the education system touch on how the US was built? That slave labor was the economic force? How they treated slaves and their decedents? I find it hard to believe that topic was never even touched on.

I feel like people are lying just to create a strawman.

Lets just stop this 'why is the word offensive?' discussion now.

No one gives a flying fuck if it isn't offensive in your country or if you haven't been educated about the word. It is clear from many posts in this thread that it is a very deplorable word.

If you want to learn the history of the word then just google it or watch a video on youtube. Or just read a book, idc which.

Stop derailing this thread with this topic. Again, this issue isn't about you and stop trying to make it so.

The word itself is considered an extreme slur in Sweden as well. So there's some context for y'all. He knows what it means and that's all that matters.

People make mistakes. Ryan Davis once said faggot on stream, should I have called him homophobic?

I have no idea who Ryan Davis is but whataboutism doesn't exactly help, considering its not the first time PewDiePie has been embroiled in race-related controversy...plus he's a fucking grown adult, you could call someone a fucking bastard or cunt in a heated moment but how many times does someone "slip up" and say the N word?

Unless you're predisposed to thinking that's acceptable, even as some slur/curse. I still occasionally hear people say faggot in the same way that people still say autistic/retarded...bunch of stupid idiots who think these words are either acceptable or a form of insult.

I guess also there's a case of how many times do you give someone a pass for something before you wonder if they're even trying to learn from their mistakes.

Who the fuck is this guy and what is the fucking context here where it is appropriate to use the word?

Fucking dickbag.

Fit of Rage? he wasn't even angry, he was just being a dispshit

"Understand the context"

Lmao the lengths people go to defend this shit never ceases to astound me.

Would love to know at what point people came to the conclusion that "nigger" meant something other than a slur against black people.

He's a gamergater appearently so...yeah.

Black people saying the n-word: They should stop using it. They're just cementing it as a bad word.

White people saying the n-word: It was just a heated moment and it slipped out.

So tired of non-POC trying to dictate who can say what, based on their own experiences and upbringing.

Who is this and how is he this dense?

Ignore him, he literally plays a character like Rush Limbaugh or Tucker Carlson. He only actually believes any of this shit to the degree that it will get him Twitter followers. He literally has nothing important to say about anything and his only contribution to conversations is jumping on the most controversial side of things immediately.

This is a guy who said we had never been to space and then tried to explain it away when he was called out for being a fucking moron.

Hard R's everywhere in this thread. This dude is Pro Gamergate, promotes harassment and is racist - no matter how much of a personality he is, all of it is unforgivable.

Just keep the names of these other people out of your mouth. Ryan Davis didn't lead up to it with MONTHS of racist commentary, didn't watch archival Nazi videos on his stream, didn't immediately equate the word to another insult seconds later, and he went out of his way to apologize over that.

It's not even remotely comparable.

Like, it's continents apart.

Just keep these other people's names out of your mouth.

Defend PewDiePie's racist comment straight up or admit that it was indefensible.

Honest question here so don't burn me at the stake.

Do we need to censor words if we're just talking about someone word using the word? If you're not using the word yourself and just use it in a context not directed at someone, does it need censoring?

How do people feel about this?

I'm genuinely curious how the word cracker came to be. I assume it has something to do with "cracking the whip"?

Eh, it's just a courtesy to do it, I feel. We all know what's being said, but it's not like adding asterisks in place of the full word is ruining anyone's day :p

Question is how many of his colleagues/friends on YouTube are gonna actually cut him off/cut him out finally?

One?

Half of one?

Any?

There are enough alt-right/gg shitheads with money to burn on the internet who will turn him into a martyr and support someone like Pew Die Pie even if everyone else cuts him off. See: Moriarty, Colin.

Who the fuck is still donating to this guy. A POS who's already a millionaire? Fucking kids, stop taking mommy and daddies credit card to "support" this guy.

I mean, I'm not necessarily surprised that a Youtuber who built his audience by screaming and making rape jokes is a racist too.

On a side note, I tend to notice people who say discriminatory slurs in heated moments are people who use them in private. I grew up saying the word retard as a pre-teen and only once I cut it out from my vocabulary did I stop instinctively saying it in heated moments.

The N word is absolutely known to N30RYU, why do you think he censored the word? If he was apparently from some part of Europe where the N word wasn't offensive at all and he doesn't know the history of it, he would have said the whole word.
