So Sean Spicer went to the Emmys today...

Right.

He's pretty much being rewarded for being a propagandist one of the most vile and corrupt presidencies in history.

Its really bizarre to see in the wake of how much damage Trump's administration has caused that they're treating this guy like it was all in good fun.

There are people who refused to work for Trump because they believed it would tarnish their reputation and lead to shunning by their peers.

The message this sends is, don't worry about it! Go ahead and work for the incompetent Nazi! If anything, it will make you cooler!

Absolutely disgusting.

Really this should have come after an apology and a strong condemnation of Trump, if ever.

It isn't "oh, remember those crazy times" yet. He would lie on behalf of Trump mere months ago.

White male privilege in action. Spicer spent so much time defending the Muslim ban and many other horrible actions by his boss. And Hollywood is so easily willing to forget that because that shit didn't affect y'all. ✌🏽

Seeing Spicer out there joining Colbert in mocking him is pure ether for Trump's soul.
I think the only positive about this is that it pissed off Trump (because you know it did).

One of the signs of internal mental turmoil is when you KNOW what someone else is thinking in their head so that you can justify an action that you otherwise might be opposed to.

Sorta like this too:

My favorite thing about this was the look of incredulous disbelief on Melissa McCarthy's face. She was like, nervously smiling and thinking, "You guys know he fronted for an actual treasonous rapist and scolded the fourth estate and helped launch a massive assault on basic facts? Right?"
It's just as easily the case that her thoughts don't go that deep, and it's more "Oh snap that's the dude I made fun of". We dunno, so it's almost useless to try to use imaginary psychic powers as a reason to justify disagreeable actions.

Now, I'm not psychic either, but I have my doubts that Trump's pissed off about it. Like I said:

Not really. If anything it's another example for him that shows Hollywood cares more about attention than principles. He should know, he's one of them.

Think it's more than that. When you're part of the ruling elite class, you have access to a world that common plebs like us don't.

I mean, I think Condi Rice is a war criminal, but she got access to some of the exclusive corporate boards post her SoS tenure.

Yeah this is a bad look for everyone involved.

Trained monkey or not, Spicer pretty much got a free pass despite months of propagating horrendous bullshit.

ah yeah, being upset and disappointed at celebs for buddying up with a former fascist mouthpiece is the same as being a birther

So. I've been watching Colbert and the way he is condemning Spencer in his show is brutal. A week earlier he showed up to Kimmel's after Kimmel's interview Spicer. Colbert, said to Kimmel that he shouldn't feel sorry for the guy and next he toss him a freebie at the Emmys.

Now that is a double standard guy.

Public shouldn't be accepting of either Spicer or Brannon. Half a year in office and they were let go only to peddle the same bullshit outside of White House payroll.

Normally I would agree with you, but it's Trump. We have seen Trump lash out over the tiniest things, and the man's presidency is built off of him being angry that he was made fun of by a black guy. Trump tried to get a man (who had a post with like, 50 retweets) charged on blasphemy laws because he made fun of Trump with said tweet.

Also, I have said numerous times in this thread that I do not think this action was justifiable. I think it was a poor move and did way more harm than good.

PS. And did you just claim I have internal mental turmoil over this?

I hope you extend this to insurance companies, loan collectors, bank workers bordering on fraudulent activities (like allowing you to take loans that they suspect you wont be able to pay back), prosecuturs pushing for plea bargains, etc.

Waitress in a casino? Working in gun factory? Cruel animal meat factories?
You might think that I am defending Sean here, but I am not. I hated him with a passion just like the rest of the gaf, when he did his job without a spine. But there are plenty of spineless jobs out there who get way less scrutiny around here. IF anything, hate him for the things the did WHILE he went in front of the press, not this.

Stock trading? Speculation? Lobbying? Plenty of immoral things on the foundation of govement, pre-Drumpf too. Drone strikes on civilians in Pakistan?

Seriously, there is pretentious bullshit, but this...this is some next level faux outrage.

Today I learned:
Lying for a fascist government is on the same level as being a waitress at a casino, or being a loan collector, or slaughtering animals! (tho I don't like the last one either)

Remember when Spicer said that Obama worked in conjunction with the British against Trump, breaking down our relationship with them?

What a charming fellow! People just aren't getting the joke!

A celebration of stupidity.

What bothers me is that this isn't actually the case. If this were a case of celebrating stupidity, then sure. We can all laugh at him and remember times we were stupid then move on. This isn't that, though. He wasn't stupid. He knowingly made a malicious choice to lie to the country in order to protect a fascist. That's not being stupid. That's not "whoops I said the wrong thing now let's all laugh at my mistake then we can move on and gee golly ain't I funny."

Remember when Spicer said Hitler didn't use chemical weapons and called death camps "Holocaust Centers"?

I'm over here declining invites to annual friendly functions because a majority of the people I've grown up around are Trump supporters like a sucker while Hollywood is laughing it up with old Spicer like it's all a big goof around.

The more I've thought about this throughout the day, the more it bothers me. It just reminds me that, if fascism goes full bore, these people will still likely make millions entertaining so who the fuck cares anyways?

I'm surprised this wasn't tossed out when they were throwing out ideas in the writers room in the first three seconds. Fucking insulting, they easily could have seen how this would be looked at.

Fucking failing upwards is right...no accountability. I was fine with the Kimmel appearance, but this is literally parading him out to garner applause and saying "it's ok now." It's not ok.

This bullshit 'everything is a joke' is what fuccked up the elections i think. some people voted for Trump for the lulz, just like here with Spicer being invited...

I honestly resent everyone who laugh, allowed him there and enabled this shit.

They are humanizing and enabling someone who helped make the life of millions of people worst.

It's disgusting and everyone involved should be ashamed.

Fuck everything about this.

Lame as fuck, but in all fairness to Spicer, he had literally the worst job in the cabinet and puts him in a bad situation no matter what. I mean what are you suppose to do in a situation when your job was to spew the lies of the president on a daily basis when everyone knows its a lie?

Yep, definitely. This guy said and defended some fucked up stuff during all those pressers, easily forgotten I guess.

Quit the job? He wasn't forced to be there. He was ok spouting that stuff for a pretty long time.

For me, the glorification and acceptance is the fact that he's invited and that he hangs out back stage with people who take fucking selfies with him.

"I don't agree with this decisions but he's a nice guy!" "Even though he lied to the country and berated reporters and anyone who disagreed with said lies"

"OK, here I go! Get over here Spicy it's selfie time!"

That's an acceptance and normalization that I think rightfully rubs people the wrong way.

Yeah exactly. If they did this and then had two muscular bouncers drag his dumb ass and toss him out the back entrance unceremoniously, sure I'd be fine with this. They didn't do anything of the sort.

He could have tried having a spine and some fucking principles.

I mean, what do you expect them to do at a Hollywood party?

People tend to be civil.

I don't imagine people out for the evening fancy having a hyper political extreme debate with each other either.

I'm civil all the time in public. Doesn't mean I go out there and take pictures with members of the KKK and post them on twitter with funny comments and shit.

Oh I don't know

Quit?

He fucking quit anyway so clearly he's got no problem with leaving on his own.

Let's not even go as far as saying he should have quit. Because I guarantee the next reply that guy is going to make is "family's gotta eat!" or some bullshit.

He had a perfectly fine job within the government before this where he wouldn't have to be the guy to spew lies and propagandize to the American people. He could have simply not applied for this job in the first place.

After reading some of your answers, after seeing the backstage pictures and after giving it some more thought, I take back what I said a few pages ago. I still think some people are overreacting (some of the vitriol concerning Colbert is really unwarranted, hence my "purity test" remark... he may be flawed and he may have fucked up, but damn it, people can't just start hating a guy because of this one thing when his track record has been mostly remarkable and when he actually did more for political discourse in the last decade than almost any other media personality) but I can definitely understand what you mean and I agree with those who say it's fucked up. I was in the wrong and I thank those who took some time to answer my reply.

You don't take the job. It's pretty simple.

If you don't want to support a white supremacist you don't work for him. It's very easy.

I feel a bit put out by seeing Colbert being matey with Spicer. After all he has said against that administration, to be all lol you lied a lot, is quite a slap in the face to his fans.

America can keep James Corden too, fuck that guy.
