So Sean Spicer went to the Emmys today...

Has Spicer spoken out or in anyway acknowledged the shit he did beyond laughing it off?

Well if he lasted months while lying pretty much every single day to the world

I doubt he'll ever acknowledge or apologize for anything. But I'd like to be surprised

i've been begging for over 5 years.
I think Colbert deserves to lose his job for bringing a shitheel in for laughs and being friendly with him.

Colbert has gone after Trump with more ferocity than anyone in late night with the exception of Sam Bee who is just on a completely different level than anyone else. Colbert's voice is needed. You are being ridiculous.

This. He's also faced repeated backlash for that ferocity.

Gross. So he lies to the American people when he was press secretary, but now gets to mingle with celebrities?

What in the actual fuck.

So I watched the video. I laughed.

As for the outrage at his appearance... cmon.

Is Sean Spicer a shit dude? Yes. Did he say dumb and insensitive shit while being a propaganda mouth piece for our fascist and white supremacist President? Absolutely. I mean... that's pretty goddamn clear. I'm also sure almost everyone agrees with that, at least here on GAF.

That said, this short video was pretty hilarious. Why? Because at the very least, it was humorous. I would argue that this administration, and Spicer in general, has been its own fucking embarrassing parody of itself. When even South Park won't touch you because it's just too fucking easy at this point, you know your ass is far below reproach.

When I clicked this video after reading angry tweets attacking "liberal pundits and hosts" and comments here, I guess I went in with a certain kind of goggles on. And even then, when I watched it, I saw a mockery, and self-deprecating jab at Spicer, rather than an unacceptable glorification of him. The jokes were made at his expense. These comedians, pundits, and late night hosts have been making jokes at his expense for months. But suddenly when he excepts being the brunt of the joke, both personally and professionally? I'm not sure where the anger has come from.

This event, from my perspective has even further proven to me one harsh and inconvenient truth. The left can't stop fighting with itself, while the right stands unified and stays in power. We keep finding any reason we can to punch left and punch center. Why? This is all so petty.

Me right now. You've never had to fall in line and just do your fucking job before?

Why are we pretending Spicer is some poor, put upon civil servant struggling to make ends meet? Spicer isn't the secretary for the high command another poster was equating him to, he's fucking Goebbels

For me, the glorification and acceptance is the fact that he's invited and that he hangs out back stage with people who take fucking selfies with him.

"I don't agree with this decisions but he's a nice guy!" "Even though he lied to the country and berated reporters and anyone who disagreed with said lies"

"OK, here I go! Get over here Spicy it's selfie time!"

That's an acceptance and normalization that I think rightfully rubs people the wrong way.

This. He's also faced repeated backlash for that ferocity.

It's always from both conservatives and the craziest "left".

It's like how Colbert had his 'Bing Bong Ching Chong' character, which was a character created to show how racist Bill O'Reilly is toward Asians (and other conservative white pundits are), which went over the casually left's heads and he had to retire the bit. Fast forward a few years and Jesse Watters is harassing Chinese people in NYC at the behest of Bill O'Reilly and has since moved up the ladder at Fox News unchallenged.

Colbert's entire career has involved swatting away temporal self-destructive indignancy, this too will pass.

When Corden and those who did those things get a chance to address those things and the whys behind it, or apologize, why knee-jerk react with outrage. It's been less than a day.

These people have been responsible for highlighting the hilarity and adsurdity of this administration for months. People who are on our side. I highly doubt they did this as a "we forgive you, Spicey. ❤️"

My God. Why is it that people call for blood against people who had purely good intentions. Even if it backfired. Bill Maher faced the same thing, even though he apologized literally the next day. And his offense was infinitely worse. Give these people a chance to explain before you demand they burn it down.

I don't think he should lose his job, but I think this was a huge misstep on his part.

It's always from both conservatives and the craziest "left".

This is the thing though, you have to be careful with parody, and you have to understand the damage it can do towards the people you are actually trying to help. There were a LOT of conservatives who thought Colbert was on their side with the Colbert Report. How do you think the "Bing Bong" character went over with them? Yeah, they may be idiots thinking the The Colbert Report was making fun of liberals, but that doesn't change the fact that that's what they believed.

Huge over reaction. Not surprising. This entire thread is an over reaction. Spicer was the joke. He was used to provoke Trump and be shown as an example of the liar he is.

I guess all of the punches that were thrown at Trump in the opening song just before Spicer appearance wasn't enough of a hint.

liberals seem to believe that giving any enemy publicity of any kind is automatically terrible no matter the context.

Ugh I can't. Colbert completely fucked up, and everyone trying to say "it's just a joke!!" IS the problem. This is not a joke.

Repeat after me: this man is a PAID LIAR. Not a PR spinner as some of you are trying to soften him as. No. He's a boldfaced, shameless piece of crap who sold his loyalty to his country to LIE for a disgusting orange monster of a human being.

Do we have to bring up Charlottesville? The lives lost and torn apart due to racial violence empowered by this administration? The pure terror millions faced when their health care was about to be snatched away from them?

And this this piece of SHIT comes up on stage with Stephen Colbert's blessing in an attempt to endear himself as a lovable goof? When the only reason this selfish shit stain left was because HE WANTED A JOB HIGHER UP THE TOTEM POLE AND DIDN'T GET IT.

Like this isn't about if he had a turn of conscience. This guy WANTED to keep lying! Actively begged for that job!

So no. Fuck Sean Spicer and the rest of this crazy administration. And fuck Colbert.

But calling Spicy a good guy and taking pictures with him and hanging out with him IS, at least partially, forgiveness, even if not outright saying it.

Basically he got to hang out with stars and clearly had a great time doing it. All because he infamously lied to the nation night in and out.

You've gotta be able to see why this doesn't sit right with people.

Oh, I do. Spicer shouldn't instantly get a pass. And if this was their intentions to give him that pass? Then sure. They should have to answer for that. And I'm pretty sure that either way, they will address it.

Spicer should give a tell-all interview about what's going on in that administration, and realize publicly how shit he was. That's a good way to start.

Also... if Spicer was one of my main sources of ratings while I shat on him NIGHTLY on my own late night show, I might just kiss his cheek too LOL

I really wonder how many people that are raging at this, watched only this one minute long video. Hmmm

The pass is given, even if unintentionally, by inviting him, taking pictures with him, hanging out with him. That is normalization of his awful behaviors and decisions.

I mean yeah that would be a good start but at this point it's hard to imagine he's going to even undertake this task. Considering what he did and that he did it for so long.

"Yeah, it's that kind of evening" at the Netflix Emmy party, people taking selfies and shaking hands with a fascist mouthpiece.

"But he was super nice and cool"

"Damn good selfie with the one and only Sean Spicer"
-"Two awesome smiles!! =D =D"

Man, dude looks like he really got knocked down a few pegs. Eating expensive food and drinking expensive alcohol, getting invited to parties and hagning out with celebrities. Dude really looks like he fucked up.

I love Colbert, but, if this was his idea, he fucked up.

Fuck anyone that willingly works for the Trump administration.

Everyone loves the Spicey!

GAF I want to make this 100% abundantly clear, I was the first person in the world to hate James Corden. Seriously I fucking despise him and always have, check my post history. You're all a bunch of poser James Corden-haters.

The only person I hate more is Chris Martin, and he would never do this. Since I just praised that sanctimonious, pretentious twat, I now need to shower. It's a good thing I already needed a shower (seriously I stink right now).

Would've been better if it was Melissa McCarthy as Sean Spicer rather than trying to redeem Sean himself after all he's done. Period.

That's pretty gross. But doesn't Hollywood give passes to scumbags? So this isn't shocking? Spicers a pos and I don't care if it's funny. Fuck that guy, don't normalize his disgusting ass. He constantly lied to the American people on a daily basis. Fuck him.

I think this gif describes the best way possible how I feel about this.

I really, really don't know if it is ok to humanise pricks and assholes who spread the racist agenda with the lies, insults and misinformation for Drumpf.

Also can someone post a new link to the video in the op?
I can't watch it anymore.

You haven't been watching Seth Meyers then.

Exactly. Some strange over-reaction over this

But yes, it's a prevailing notion currently. One based on loserdom from Trump's electoral victory. Provide more attractive messages and candidates. None of this platform stuff would be in the discussion if Hillary won. Moreover, conservatives and been in the public eye for decades and they only came to prominence via alternative media--AM radio--which itself was an alternative platform.

I mean, what do you expect them to do at a Hollywood party?

People tend to be civil.

I don't imagine people out for the evening fancy having a hyper political extreme debate with each other either.

"Sure, he went to work for a white supremacist, but it would just be rude not to take a selfie!"

Literally the decay of America.

Why does being civil mean you have to ham it up and take smiling selfies with a white supremacist's propagandist? They could just like... not talk to him? I mean I don't have any scruples dressing fancy and telling fascists to fuck right off but if someone does for some reason there is definitely some area between "Fuck off" and selfie.

Or they just don't like seeing people get chummy with a guy who regularly went to bat for a deranged piece of shit and are essentially downplaying how problematic that was.

The fact that Colbert has been attacking Trump does not give him some kind of pass for choosing to instead buddy up with Trump's paid shill. On the contrary, it makes the behavior more shocking.

But this is a very specific and shitty kind of publicity that normalizes his behaviors
Right.

He's pretty much being rewarded for being a propagandist for one of the most vile and corrupt presidencies in history.

Its really bizarre to see in the wake of how much damage Trump's administration has caused that they're treating this guy like it was all in good fun.

Right.

Its really bizarre to see.

And really bizarre to see defended.

I mean I laughed when I first saw it because on a surface level it's funny, but after applying even basic thought to it you start to realize how fucked the whole situation is.

It should have simply been McCarthy as Spicer. The joke would have worked even better.
