So Sean Spicer went to the Emmys today...

Yeah, I don't like everyone making Spicer into a nice celebrity now.

But neither do Trump supporters, who think he turned on Trump and participated in a Trump roast with liberal Hollywood. Whole thing is weird.

Trump supporters are mixed in feeling Spicer's betraying Trump by basically saying he's a joke, and being glad libtards are mad.

Spicer should be living in fear...

If not Spicer then it has to be someone else. That's not the point. Getting the administration on record is. Again, having a press secretary brief the press is not a given and this admin has already tried to move to text only or audio only briefings to restrict the press. People get so mad at the tree's that they don't see the forest.

They are not the brightest bunch, I certainly don't rule out ignorance versus some 5D chess that you all maintain is going on.
So you're saying Trump not saying anything at all to the press is.. Better than a stooge trying to pass off his filth as truth?

What a fucking bizarre hill to die on. They pretty much already do this anyways with they way press conferences are run. They're not honest or in good faith. They just want to try and pass off as many lies to as many people as possible. That is pretty much it

Spicer and whoever else is up there are actually making things MUCH WORSE by being professional double downers. They're PERPETUATING said lies over and over, which is significantly worse than saying nothing.

Like how is this even debatable

Their press conferences do significantly more harm than good.

You're basically saying:

"They're doing a public service by constantly lying to the public"
"Well at least there is still someone to do this job even if they're political hacks, pushing whatever horrific lie Trump wants them to!"

Yeah

Ok.

Sean Spicer apologist. Put that in your raps.

I would vote for Stephen Colbert for President. I defended Hillary Clinton against being under investigation by the FBI. Context matters. I'm not going to be outraged by Sean Spicer making a comedic appearance during an opening segment of the emmys because he did his job at the White House. He was already a dumb asshole before taking the job, he doesn't need to be excommunicated from society for being a republican; much less because of some hypothetical damage he might cause to the implied fragile psyche of the emmy audience who for some reason must not be trusted to laugh at said republican for fear they might become brainwashed. This shit is getting out of hand. We sit here and laugh at the right wing for being so abashedly hypocritical prior to the general election, saying such awful things about Trump, admitting and acknowledging his awful essence, and then yet in the end, holding their nose and falling in line, and what do we have to show for it? They got Trump in the White House while we sit here and argue about Bernie Sanders; shit on Trevor Noah for so much as telling jokes about Antifa, a group that doesn't even represent our views other than our love of punching Nazis; denounce Nancy Pelosi for being too moderate while she negotiates with republicans over the fate of dreamers and obamacare; boycott Elon Musk, one of the worlds foremost leaders in the fight against climate change, for even trying to engage Trump on the issue in order to CHANGE his mind; and now we're gonna sit here and relegate Stephen Colbert as just a phoney hollywood mark because he brought Sean fucking Spicer in as a joke ABOUT how he spun the crowd sizes?

This shit is getting out of hand.

Russia is winning.

No one was holding a gun to his head. He could have quit a long time ago or just not accepted the position.

He was the White House Press Secretary. He took the position to speak on behalf of the White House, knowing full well he was not there to represent his own views. He wouldn't have taken the job if he intended to resign when he disagreed. He also is a republican and probably does actually believe a lot of those views. Those views happen to be the official views of the President of the United States. A lot of republicans agree with them. He is also an idiot. Lots of people are. I don't see how this doesn't essentially boil down to demanding the excommunication of all republicans from all forms of media unless they are being publicly shamed for their political views, especially if they supported Trump. He could still end up at the top of the RNC again, thats how vanilla he is. And btw we're sure as hell not gonna beat them in 2020 by calling him a nazi for comparing Assad to Hitler, while shitting on people like Stephen Colbert for being too moderate during a joke at the emmys. Itll be 2016 all over again.

It's almost like free will exists

Like you know

The time Spicer QUIT because he was actually personally affected by something Trump did. That kind of free will

Honest to god feel like I'm taking crazy pills with all this "doing his job" talk. The hell? How the hell does that not make him accountable for all the shit that he actually said on national TV? The lies that he helped spread? He chose to take that job; he chose to say those words. That makes him accountable!

Would any of you "doing his job" people have went on National TV and said the shit he said if it was your job?

I think I said it before but Spotlight still has the best response to it than anything I've seen:

"I was just doing my job!"

"Yeah, you and everyone else"

Totally agree. And that argument is weakened even further by the fact that he quit the job voluntarily, showing that he wasn't somehow financially tied down to doing it. Even if he was financially bound to sticking around it still wouldn't make what he did okay, but because he clearly wasn't tied down, his quitting for personal reasons rather than moral reasons further reinforces how little spicer cared about the terrible things he was doing.

Over the last year I've gotten rather used to utterly dropping fools and entertainment from my life due to their lack of spine regarding Trump, guess I'll toss Colbert on the pile.

His jokes are toothless and empty now, he doesn't give a fuck. He would gladly pal around with Trump for a wacky wow who saw that comin ooooooo reaction and I have no doubt it's only a matter of time until he does.

This

He quit because he was personally off put by SOMEONE TRUMP HIRED. He wasn't forced. He just chose to leave because he disagreed with a decision Trump made.

Not the travel ban stuff. Not being asked to harden Assad's image by lying about the atrocities committed by HITLER.

But simply because he didn't like the Mooch and was rubbed wrong.

Yeah. Him and Alec Baldwin espcially. It was far more interesting when I assumed their insults and jokes were genuine feelings. But it was all just a prank, bro.

.

Yes, unequivocally . Having someone, anyone on the podium is better than not. You can't seem to get over the "he lied" part though so Im not sure how much use this convo has.

How is solidifying and spreading even more lies better than silence? You do realize most of the press conferences are just a sham to bolster Trump's propaganda?

They're better off releasing statements of announcements/importance. Because when they answer questions they just spin and lie their way through it all which makes it even more confusing and damaging for the country/world.

And.. we should be able to get over the fact that anyone who gets behind that podium is going to blatantly lie?

Those are some hilariously low standards to set for the highest office in the land

Ehhh no? Hello fascism.

The media serves as a check against the adminstration from being able to unilaterally issue statements and not have to answer to anything. Every sentence is parsed and fact checked and if there is error, its on the news by 6. The internet usually rips every statement to shreds and if there is error, its trumpeted all over.

You're basically advocating for a restricted media because you don't like the answers they give. Im gonna need you to grow tougher skin.

This is what they do anyways. They're just reading off of a paper and spinning it in front of the press. They're not behind the podium under any sort of good faith.

Any person they hire is just going to do what Spicer did, which is lie and deny everything. What's the point of THIS administration even pretending like they're not doing this and wasting time/making shit worse?

The media keeps this admin in check every single day with their coverage. I'm not saying they should never ask the admin a question again. Just that in this admin, the press secretary briefings are horribly redundant and specifically designed to spin a cycle of lies. 90% of the shit they say can be predicted beforehand.

”I got backlash so I need to turn this around ”

Fuck him and fuck Colbert.

And fuck people saying ”he was doing his job". He chose to have that job, he wasn't being forced to do it. And he even resigned in the end (for selfish reasons of course).

^People gotta exercise their cognitive dissonance so they don't have to deal with the fact that their favorite talking head doesn't believe any of the stuff he or she spews

And for them these apologies will suffice lol

Fuck this shit. This only serves to help normalize these dirtbags and the despicable things they stand for. Even if he doesn't believe in them himself, that only means he was willing to sell his morals (and the country) down the shitter for a buck, which is not something to be celebrated. He's a piece of human shit in either scenario. Fuck him and the people who enabled this trash.

He's a Nazi because he went to work as press secretary for a Nazi. Doesn't seem that complicated.

This doesn't matter. It doesnt really matter what they say. Its the fact that they have to say something. Doesnt matter if its spun or not, having to say something is what counts.

I earned 100 Gamerscore™ for collecting 300 widgets and thereby created Trump's America
But how could you turn down a job like that in this economy?!

"Doing his job" is the weirdest fucking defense for this. He's not in the fucking military engaged in some arguably immoral conflict. He's a DC dickrider who saw what Trump was and said "yep, there's my ride to the top!" He's dogshit. He was the highest-qualified moron that was enough of a moron to take the job.

Fuck him. I'm actually genuinely shocked that celebrities were willing to be photographed with him. I'm surprised someone didn't make enough of a stink about his presence at the after party that he had to be sent away.

I've been a fan of Colbert as an entertainer since his time at the Daily Show when I was a teenager. It bums me out that from now on, when I hear Stephen Colbert, this Spicer shit is going to be one of the first things I associate with him. Bye bye Prince Charles' banana and Munchma Quchi...

Talking is easy. Making jokes when you don’t suffer consequences is easy. If he believed what he said he would never hang out with Spencer, invite him to the emmys or give him any publicity.

Making money while shitting on Trump is all he has done and now showed how little he actually cared about how Trump and his pals affect people.

It’s the same shit as Fallon. He humanized Trump because he is spineless and then when the audiences went to Colbert he started doing Trump jokes.

This goes for everyone that was in that audience and cheered or didn’t criticize this.
