Yakuza Kiwami 2 TGS Trailer

I guess the real issue is when would Kiwami 2 come to the west? If porting goes as it has been, westerners might not see Kiwami 2 until Q4 2018! Hopefully, it'll come much sooner.

My real question though is why hasn't Yakuza seen a PC release? That's just free money waiting for them.

Take it with a huge grain of salt, but gamekult.com is reporting that the game is coming to west on february 2018.

My guess is this is a mistake but we'll see...

It's a much bigger game than Kiwami, and it seems a lot more big budget with them casting new actors for the various plot characters so I don't think it'll be a cheaper title like Kiwami if it comes out over here. But ya' never know!

We did and it almost certainly won't. The scope of this remake is much larger than Kiwami's.

Bummer, I had never played a Yakuza game before Kiwami and jumped in largely because of the price. I've wanted Zero for a long time but it rarely goes on sale (yes, I know PSN had it on sale last week).

As someone who's currently enjoying Yakuza Kiwami, would any you guys say that Yakuza 2 is better than Yakuza 1, on par, or worse, seeing as they're both remakes of the first two games? Because, if it's on par or better, I'm in, especially since both of these games are cheaper than Yakuza 0, which I'll get around to later

Generally Yakuza 2 is considered the best of the pre PS4 Yakuza games.

Yakuza 0 is probably the best game in the series. So you should really get around to it soon.

Meeee. I know the Yakuza 2 story beats.

Maybe I'll wait till the US release to play the Majima section though.

Ah, that's an interesting idea! I think I'd steal that plan, if I order it.

I'm eyeing the CE. Kinda worried we won't get a comparable one over here. Although we did get one for Y6

Hmm, maybe. I don't know if not having the Majima Everywhere feature would have made it any better for me. I'm already upset enough about the game ruining the character that I loved from Y0. Or rather, I guess I should say that I'm pissed that Yakuza 0 sold me on a character that doesn't seem to exist.

I might make a thread about that in the future, actually.

Yeah, this is an issue too. Good Ol' Crazy Majima is the best and was pretty much everyone's favorite character. We got to see a glimpse of him of a time when he wasn't nuts in a series of flashbacks in Yakuza 4 which was some cool fanservice. Yakuza 0 expanded on that era of Majima and for fans who have been there since the first game it was really cool to see this different side of him, but they didn't account for the fact that there'd be a breed of players who would start the series with the prequel and are essentially introduced to a character who was never going to be the way they are on that game again, resulting in many of them hating the regular Majima, a character who otherwise would've probably been loved by them if they had gotten the original introduction first.

I feel Y0 and YK definitely fucked the characters up to some extent. The Majima characterization in 0, to his over saturation to the point of ruining him in Kiwami, to them expanding on Nishiki to the point you feel kinda sad for him when before he was just an asshole you couldn't wait to kick the shit out of. I'm just worried that they'll mess stuff up with 2's characters too. Yakuza 2 is the best in the series, and I hope they leave the bulk of things alone. We know we're getting more Majima again, but I'm cool with that. I just don't want them to fuck up Ryuji or Kaoru.

Oooh, CE? didn't realize they revealed one!

Any pics?

To be honest, the CE isn't nearly as cool as the Y6 CE with the two whiskey glasses. But Y2 is easily one of my favorite games. So I really feel like picking it up, especially if we aren't getting a Y2 CE over here.

It's hard for me to put myself in your shoes as I played them in release order.
I'd recommend checking out the later Yakuza games where Majima is more fleshed out.

Yakuza 1 had the least developed Majima.

yea, 1 was just near homicidal maniac with a strange code of honor, 2 really fleshed him out the most, it pretty much set the standard for Majima in other games before 0 came along.

I don't particularly mind the retcon of Majima everywhere that much, but I will acknowledge it does kind ruin a bit of the original story.

I am a bit worried about the expanded Majima stuff since it's bringing back Makoto and whatnot, might muck a bit of his original part in 2 as well (and I loved Majima's role in 2). Who knows how it will play out, but I gotta ask
...can we acknowledge Park in this new content?

Yea, I think Majima everywhere is awesome for people who've already played Y1. I'm just not sure about it in the definitive version of the game, ya' know.

Yakuza 5 is not canon

Coming from someone who just finished 0 and Kiwami back to back, I honestly wish this was coming out with a full localization like tomorrow.

Maaan i don't want Y6 before Kiwami 2 but i'm afraid that by the time Kiwami 2 gets out Y6 would be near impossible to find at decent prices

Luckily, we all have 6 to look forward to.

I watched some gameplay videos of kiwami 2 and I love the increased emphasis on physics and ragdoll instead of fixed animations when you punch, kick and throw around the punks, man it looks sooo good.

I mean, it does some out the rough technical edges of the original game, so I'll give it that much. Added content though is debatable
, I will say though removing some of the original game's stricter penalties is kind of welcomed
...but also nice to have the original audio this time (albeit re-recorded, with some cast changes and Atlus' translation hang-ups).

Plus we never got the HD ports...to each their own I suppose, I might replay my PS2 copy again at some point.

The
less we acknowledge Yakuza 5's story, the better
IMO.

Aw, I can't do that to 5, no matter how I though the overall story was dumb. Park actually I liked, probably the best female character in the game (though sadly not really a high bar) and possibly of the modern games past the PS2 titles...which is why I was sad/angry when she was killed off. Goddamnit. 5 also gave us the best side character, so I can't fully trash the story.

WTF is that an rts activity at the end of the article? This will consume life.

If it's just like the gang wars thing in 6 then it's more of a mobile game where you throw units in and they fight it out automatically with special attacks on cooldowns. I didn't like it - was too easy and kind of dull. I hope they make some meaningful changes to it beyond real wrestler dudes.

Its similar to 6's, but watching the TGS footage released it actually gives you control over units and gives you actual mission objectives - the footage shown has you selecting units/characters and telling them to attack specific enemies/guard certain mission critical pieces of equipment. Its not the most complex looking mini game ever, but its certainly far improved from the mobile style effort we got in 6.

Yea, YK has a lot of huge positives and necessary quality of life changes over Y1. It's a lot more playable with the updated combat, item management at phone booths, reduced load times, visuals, Japanese audio and non-failable side quests, plus a bunch more I'm probably forgetting.

I wasn't really saying YK isn't the definite version, I was suggesting that I wouldn't want "Majima Everywhere" in the definitive version, the one that new players would play first. It feels like a mode designed to spice up a game you've already played.

And Yea, I really wish we got the HD pack over here.

Someone should ask Gamekult why they said this is coming West February '18.

They must be mistaken. Sega would have to be stupid (well, stupider than usual) to release it one month before 6 is released over here. Not to mention that'd be an insanely quick time for them to translate 2 (seeing as it'll at least have some new dialogue/content, they can't just copy 2's script across to this).

Maybe they got confused with Fist of the North Stars Japanese release? That's Feb 2018.

LOOK FORWARD TO PSX BUDDY!

IT's the TIME OF DREEAAAMMSSS!

That was my original thought but wasn't sure they would want to take away the hype for 6 prior to it's release.

Going to be hard for the influx of newcomers over the last year to play them in order.

Still hoping, though.

They unveiled Y:Kiwami and Y:6 last year when we were all waiting for Y0.

I'm wondering the same thing, we're seeing a lot more Japanese PC ports/releases these days, I'd love it if they released 0 and Kiwami 1 on PC. Definite buys for me.

I love Daigo. Does anyone else love him or is it just me.

I want to like him, but he's just a complete dope unfit to lead Japan's largest Yakuza group. So many of the stories could probably be boiled down to "Daigo screwed up again somehow, here's Kiryu to save his ass again". He just doesn't feel ruthless enough.

But it's Daigo, you gotta love Daigo!
