Blue Reflection Steam storescreens at 720p, hilarity ensues [Supports 4K, 144FPS]

Wait... the game is 1080p on the PS4 but 720p on PC? How do you fuck up like that and expect people to accept it? They already have the assets and image files, how can they not put it in for the PC version?

The PS4 version has higher resolution assets than the PC version though.

Yeah, this is confusing part. Like, i can understand if this mobile gaming and using the low res asset to ensure majority of mobile game can handle the game... or maybe that is exactly what they're thinking

Nah, Square's pretty bad. 2 million copies of Nier Automata sold. Just one PC patch, to enable DLC compatibility.

It is very likely they will botch FF XII PC as well.

Ontopic, I was looking forward to get Blue Reflection, now it'll sit in my wishlist for years on end.

I have a recent quote from KT CEO on just this;
Yoichi Erikawa said:
We choose to release the most messed up PC ports in this decade and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard; because that goal will serve to organize and measure the best of our energies and skills, because that challenge is one that we are willing to accept, one we are unwilling to postpone, and one we intend to win

It sure does feel like the rule is: avoid all Japanese PC ports of games unless you find out Durante is working on it.

Nah. Nowadays, only KT and occasionally SE are fucking up with PC ports. All the Namco Bandai ports have been good lately, although them using Denevo is still an issue. I've heard nothing but good things about the Spike Chunsoft Danganronpa ports. The XSEED ports are also good.

FFXII: The Zodiac Age was done by the same company that did the X/X-2 HD Remaster. X/X-2's PC port was pretty great, so I imagine as long as the same people are also doing the port, XII should turn out fine.

Wait... So the game requires 30 gigs but the assets are for 720p ....something doesn't seem right here. Wouldn't be surprised if the PS4 Assets are in the download and they just are not using them.

We hope you will accept this.

I swear to God if they fuck up FFXII...

I have heard the complaints of Nier:A and really for me the only issues I had were when I moved fast through the open world and some cutscenes being a little framey.

Other than that in fights and such it was smooth for me. That said that port isn't the best at all no.

At this point who knows that's possible too.

Sometimes i wonder if they know the could make the game scalable instead of this hybrid-gamble ports they make.
This is probably part of what's going on. Someone mentioned KT games selling very well in China. I'm going to guess this is done for people in the region with very low-spec computers, and also because it's KT and they don't know what graphics options are for.

What I hate the most of those kinds of mess ups, that it's impossible to get any (real) statement from any of the persons in the know.
Like, I would love it if the writing press could get on it, but some (many?) of the japanese gaming developers seem to live in their own bubble.
OTOH, they MUST know, they just choose to ignore the (western) PC fans.

Or to keep download sizes small for bandwidth starved, data capped regions.

Still, though, they should offer a high res asset pack as an optional download.

I think I am just going to skip all Koei Tecmo games now. Just to make it easy on myself. One can only take so much disappointment.

Anyone who buys KT PC ports deserves this kind of garbage tbh.

How are they not embarrassed of their work? Show some fucking pride.

To anyone defending Square Enix, I'll remind you they thought it was okay to release FFXIII with no graphics options and utterly fucked performance problems. And never fix it. And also those awful mobile ports of other FF games. They do not have a good track record.

I honestly don't think ANY Japanese developer understands this concept. I'd like to be proven wrong, of course.

Is there any explanation for this? Like, any logical reason for this imaginable? Why would they just randomly use one set of assets over another ?

I kind of get that but not adding a graphic option to use the ps4 assets that they already have ...

Both of these points are horribly wrong.

Could it be because they want to be able to release the game on DVD on some markets where physical format is still important so they chose smaller 2D assets? How big is the PS4 version?

This is why I don't own a single KT game despite having a slight interest in some of their games.

Me too. I keep putting their upcoming games to my whistlist, but after port impressions pouring in I just couldn't bring myself to buy any of them.

I dunno, I don't feel it's very reassuring considering FFX was locked at 30 fps at launch. I haven't boot up the game in like, forever, so I don't know if the 60fps mod patch someone was working on is working or not.

It says 'the image will show as stretched'.

Nothing there implies it would output higher than 720p, please elaborate.

" if you play in the environment where the resolution is larger than 1280*720"

I'm not sure why you left that part of the sentence out.

It's hard to tell because the translation is terrible, but surely they mean if you play on a display larger than 720p.

Why would they say the image would be stretched otherwise?

Well, at least they saved me money this week. I'll pick it up when it either gets fixed or the PS4 version is sub $30.

I was gonna pick up a Steam card after work tonight, too.

It's the same thing as Atelier Sophie and Firis, they both have resolutions options (though there's not many of them, there's at least 1080p and 4K), but the 2D assets are lower resolution than their respective PS4 versions.
