NHL Off-Season 2017 |OT| We’ve Been Here Since October

I think he’s oblivious to what he said, which is even worse.

"I juss wunna hckey"

I wouldn't say he's oblivious at all, I just don't think he gives enough of a shit to go against the script. He's in a position to say whatever the fuck he wants to say without any real consequences from the league and he yes-man's his way through instead. Fuck Crosby.

This is good.

Let's not add layers that aren't there. The statement is disappointing enough as is.

I wonder if when teams make these types of collective statements if the athletes are fed lines to chirp back at media.
Of course they are, or at least are pressured on what their position needs to be. When you're the face of an entire sport you don't exactly have to listen to that pressure.

Good thread about this.

Dude is from a town that had a history bunch of racial tension and brawls, and hes acting like he never heard of black people.

Bless. Thanks Cakes. I love a good Twitter thread, even more for a great one.

Crosby had the opportunity to do the right thing, instead he does the easy thing.

Matthews just comes off as a “both sides” guy with both quotes. Super disappointing.

He’s factually correct on that second quote, but with no actual meaningful comment to add. What’s even more disappointing is the fact that he’s a minority, as well as his mom. And one of the minority groups Trump’s been directly attacking.

tbh, I'm pretty certain that most of the North American players in the league are of the same opinion :-(

Let's face it, hockey is a rich white people sport (especially in the US). Next to monster truck rally drivers, these guys are just about the absolute last you would expect to join in with or even understand this kind of protest.

And even the players that I would suspect might actually be down for this sort of thing won't do it because of how conscientiously so many of these teams have tied police and military traditions into their cultures. You think 3-time Steven McDonald Award winner Mats Zuccarello is going to protest police violence?

How many people are talking about police brutality as opposed to respecting the flag and military service is what I was going for.
Fair enough. But as I see it, the flag/military stuff just gives people a defensible narrative if they don't care about inequality/black lives/etc. But ultimately everyone, even the dumbest among them, understand this is a racial inequality thing.
