Someone who works at Sucker Punch who's here on GAF or knows people at Sucker Punch, please tell me they aren't closing their studio. Can't take in the news of another talented passionate studio go down like this.
Yep, basically, shit happens. Can this turn out bad? Yes. Can it turn out good despite the issues? Yes.If it were up to the internet, I'd have panicked in 2014 after the layoffs at Santa Monica. Instead, they moved to a brand new studio, we found out the layoffs were due to a cancelled game behind the scenes (which, while it sucks, is something that happens more than people think), and the next year we got a great God of War reveal.

If y'all wanna panic about something panic about the fact it's been 2 almost 3 years since that ape escape team photo and not a new ape escape title in sight not even 3 for os2 classic

I wouldn't be too concerned. When coming up with a new IP, I'm sure all studios go through rough patches over the dev lifecycle... and considering the fact that it's rumoured to be a new open world IP, the silence isn't that surprising.
With that being said, as much as I love SP games I don't see the rush. Sony has so many releases in the pipeline over the next two years, this could potentially be in the oven until 2020.
You almost gave me a heart attackThere will be a dancing thing for phones from forwardworks in jp.
Sorry.
Edit: nvm I think that's the Parappa game. I think I've seen something Ape Escape on phones though?
I am a bit concern because their new ip is rumor to be a open world western game. Sony may see it redundant with red dead 2 coming out and axe the studio like they how they canned Stig project at Santa Monica.

Pretty crazy how that rumor stuck around because of that concept artIt's not rumored to be a western.

There are still Verendus rumors floating around as if they're fact. Stuff dies hard.Pretty crazy how that rumor stuck around because of that concept art

Man, looking back I'm embarrassed for having bought into a lot of that stuff. Dude was a master bullshitter. That Sony Japan rpg is coming anyday now as well as suikoden Vi
If that were to happen, they could always go back to inFamous. With the way they left things in SS, next game could be huge.
Honestly, Sony is probably holding back another Horizon-like bombshell reveal. Once GOW, Detroit and maybe Spider-Man are out before E3. We are most likely going to get the next lineup of upcoming 1st party games.

At best, it seems they may be able to pump out two titles. I think trilogies in the same generation are over with. Especially in terms of retaining/exceeding quality and the audience willing to stay in that long.

I guess since it was still early in the generation with so many games and devs unaccounted for, a lot of us on here just really WANTED to believe in all the stuff he said. But in hindsight, we all should have known better. Even if he did have legit connections nobody could have known the shear amount from across the entire industrycthat he claimed to.
So, the supposed new IP of From Software wasn't revealed at TGS right?
PSX then...
Our tag line should be panic to be honest
My biggest complaint about this generation is the ballooning development times and how it affects new IP.
Last generation, a two year development cycle was pretty much the standard, especially once you got an IP up and running. In the PS2 era, some studios could churn out a quality product every year, like Insomniac did with Ratchet & Clank.
This generation, everything's been all over the place. Naughty Dog and Sucker Punch got things going relatively quickly, but relied on old IP to do so. Santa Monica floundered with their new IP and still haven't released a game. Horizon took 5-6 years to bake - and it was phenomenal - but I was hoping that lengthy of a dev cycle was an anomaly. Seems like that's gonna be the new standard though.
After Infamous, I really thought we wouldn't have to wait this long for a follow up. I thought there was a 99% chance we'd see something last E3, and was hoping for a Q1 2017 release.
Really makes you wonder about consoles' life cycles. You used to be able to easily get a trilogy in during a console's life. Now, you may be lucky to get a single sequel. All we've really got so far was Knack II. The Order probably would have been possible by now as well had it gone over better.
When I look back at consoles past, I immediately think of my favorite trilogies: Ratchet & Clank, Uncharted, Resistance, Sly... Will we be able to do that when this generation is over, or are we just gonna have a list of one hit wonders?
That's really the main reason I'm in no rush to see a PS5.
Not really 1st party but I feel like a Crash Team Racing remake reveal is a guarantee at PSX (with a slight chance of it being at PGW instead). I'm gonna guess it'll launch for $20 digitally in April with a retail release with it and the N'sane trilogy the same day at $40. It'll be exclusive at launch but will release on Xbox One and Switch in fall 2018. Less likely but I think a completely new Crash platformer will be announced at PSX as well. It'll release in the first half of 2019 but release on PS4, Xbox One and Switch at the same time.
True. I'll agree that it will probably will be the most original/unique/innovative new IP this generation but whether or not Dreams turns out to be a good game remains to be seen.
Sucker Punch still radio silent. I think it's safe to assume that whatever they were working on got cancelled or got a major overhaul. It's been too long for a studio that was very competent in almost every department, not a trailer, teaser, a leak, nothing.
For anyone who likes Playdead's games, I absolutely have to recommend Little Nightmares which scratched a very similar itch to Limbo and Inside. It's a fantastic game and if you haven't played it, might help towards filling the long wait for Playdead's next project.

If GG didn't release KZSF, you would be saying the same thing about them?

Just an FYI for anyone reading the comments hereIve been strictly instructed not to talk about what were working on now so if youre planning on reading to the end of the comments section just in case I let something slip, youre going to be sorely disappointed. Sorry!
lol that's pretty funny
So is Forwardworks connected to Playstation at all or is it a seperate entity within Sony? I see that mobile space fishing game will be coming out on PC as well but none of the consoles.
I am really curious about Sucker Punch's new IP.
We know it is Open World and Action. And that it has amazing graphics. But nothing about what it is and how it plays.
This kind of stuff is so exciting. I am hoping we got a Horizon-like reveal for their new IP. It will be even more surprising since for Horizon we had some leaked concept arts but SP new IP... nothing!
Whatever it is I hope they find the same sucess Guerrila found.
They haven't done wrong in awhile, lbp is still turning them a massive profit check their reports and they haven't even released anything. And it shows they believe in the projectI'm not sure why Sony is giving MM such a loose leash with Dreams.
Not to mention the VR potential, which Sony is investing a lot in.They haven't done wrong in awhile, lbp is still turning them a massive profit check their reports and they haven't even released anything. And it shows they believe in the project

Think of ForwardWorks kinda like Sony Online Entertainment... that is more likely to stay than being sold off.
It is a PlayStation-owned and managed entity that works on mobile games, with access to internal Japan Studio talent and PlayStation IP.
But so far, it is not connected within the conventional elements of PlayStation business that we know of.
ForwardWorks handles all its own marketing, communication, etc, with practically no marketing support of the broader PlayStation family. At the same token though, they're self-managing without any of the liabilities and expectations to support the broader PlayStation family.
So, afawk, there are no commitment from FW to support the global market until they themselves deem it necessary/worth it, even as PlayStation now is a global brand where every first-party game is localised. And there is no commitment to support any form of PlayStation console too, even when there is a PC-version being made for SoraUmi.
Why is FW likely to succeed with SOE failed?
FW's board is chaired by the presidents of SIE.
It's clear that Sony/PlayStation wants the mobile money that FGO is making hand-over-fist, but they're now gun-shy about being "ONE SONY" when it comes to integrating PlayStation and Mobile Games, because previous mobile endeavours by Sony can be said to have failed because they brought in their console mindset to mobile gaming mindset ( exclusive hardware, expensive games, etc )
So instead of finding a middle ground like what Nintendo is doing with their mobile business ( mobile games that appear on iOS/Android, but still marketed and treated as part of the Nintendo family with the localisation and support from Nintendo ), they go all the way to the other end of the spectrum in that ForwardWorks barely feel like a PlayStation company at all, if not for the fact they make games based off Sony IP.
The game of the generation should come out at the end of the generation.I'm not sure why Sony is giving MM such a loose leash with Dreams.
