Fortnite: Battle Royale |OT| 100 Players on Epic Battlegrounds

Went to the pizza place for the first time, landed before a couple of others and grabbed a green shotgun, ammo and some metal. Boarded up both staircases and camped waiting for the first circle. Someone started hitting one of the covers so I hung back and popped them as soon as they broke through, felt good.

Waited a bit longer and someone else ran up but I missed them and they cleared off. They must have gone and found a weapon and hung back though because as soon as I saw the circle and left the shop I got wrecked from the car park – #45, pitiful! Should have just knocked out the back wall and left that way, keep forgetting these options!

Can't wait to get back and keep trying. Want that umbrella!

Soon as I figure out the aiming settings on Xbox....

It feels too strong. Especially through a sniper scope.

I'll mess around with the dead zone and sensitivity more. Having so much fun though.

Played a bunch of matches, some solo, some squads.

As it is now, I'm not really a fan.

Aside from the crafting - which is admittedly neat - it feels like a step down from the mechanics of PUBG and more towards the arcade-y style of H1Z1. Despite being cheaper than PUBG, H1Z1 never really took off in the same way, and I believe that's due to how arcade-y everything in that game feels.

Battle Royale, inherently, is an extremely competitive game mode, and it all kind of crumbles away when you couple it with gameplay that doesn't feel realistically competitive. I never once felt any sort of tension or fear in Fortnite BR, and that's not a good sign.

The two games will cater to two completely different demographics.

For those that prefer a more gritty realistic experience PUBG exists. For those who want a more laid back, arcadey, casual, pick up and play version of battle royal, this exists.

Just because you prefer the former it doesn't mean the latter doesn't have a place in the market.

I also think the sound design, especially positional audio is spot on and if you ask me far better than PUBG. It's much easier to hear for footsteps, and know where they are coming from.

Nice write up, but gotta disagree with this part. Found the sound design to be just ok to serviceable. Some stuff is prety good. But Im having a hell of a time with the postional audio of foot prints.

Maybe its because of using the Song Gold virtual 7.1 surround sound, and Im just used to my previous dolby surround sound headphones, but your foot steps bass sounds like its coming from rear left and the tremble or another layer of your footstep audio feel like its coming from rear right. Also some of the feet sounds feel delayed or disconnected from your character actions, loud when barely moving, etc. So Im constantly thinking someone is is close by or sneaking up. Otherwise when not moving yeah postional audio of footsteps seems prety accurate to locate an enemey.

While fun, I can see this being f2p a huge hacking problem.

That's why I love playing on console rather than PC, there is no hacking on console.

Man, went to bed 10 hours ago and now I'm playing again since 2 hours. Play with a friend right now in a 2 man squad against all the 4 men squads and we're getting second and third places constantly. So much fun.

We still need a new Fortnite Discord.

I swear it doesnt matter where I go or how I dive down, someone always reaches the spot I'm heading to *just* before me. Infuriating.

They have around 30k viewers on twitch right now. And it's like a bad time for streaming. Pretty much saved the game from being irrelevant like so many others.

I had a go last night, and the sniper rifle feels miles better than it did when the mode launched. Like, I can actually aim at something, and the bullet would hit it almost instantly.

What is the point of the pyramid? Is it just like the barbed wire on R6S, so something that just makes it a bit awkward for an enemy to go a certain route indoors?

I'll admit it. I rage when I play this.

Ive never had the win but I've come second 12 times! The last two times were utter bullshit. The first I was camped behind a bus and the last guy came running over the hill in front of me and started tearing the bus apart with a rocket launcher, God knows how he knew I was there? Perhaps he was in a party with someone spectating me? The next one was a guy who span around and hit me with a reaction sniper headshot after I pumped two close range shotgun rounds into his back

Is there a way to predict the circle? Does it have some kind of pattern?

I've been tapping the parachute on the way down - it's about a minute from leaving the bus and the start of the storm, so if you can slow your descent enough you can steer yourself and land straight in the middle of the circle when it appears.

I think the circle is too aggressive. Feels like they could slow it down by 25% and the game would be better for it.

That's a minor quibble though. The foundation of this is extremely impressive this early in its life. Add a character creator and cosmetic rewards and you're going to hook people for a long time.

Yeah, I'd agree with this. Becuase of the lack of vehicles you should be able to out run the storm when it starts to close in. The times are OK, but the speed the storm comes in is a killer.

Seems that squads solved the problem with teams in solo mode.
I only saw one team yesterday in the many games i played.
Before that there were many teams in almost all matches.

I just feel like when we get some bad 'circle RNG' we spend 3/4 of the match running to get in front of it instead of playing the (awesome) game.

Maybe I just can't tell, but it doesn't seem to be on a set timer and almost seems dynamic to me on how fast or slow the match is by how quickly people are dying.

Finally got into the swing of things after a couple of games last night. Really enjoying it and looking forward to playing again later.

Last game had a nice defensive position going with 15 players left and was just finishing off blocking off the stairs when I get snipered through the balcony door from a nearby hill. Dammit.

This has to be the only game I can recall where being sniped doesn't get under my skin. In this I'm just like

Yeah, don't think these Battle Royal games are for me, just find them really boring. I'll give doubles (when it goes live) a go, can see having a friend to talk to during the slow moments helping a lot. But think I'm done with solo for now.

The map is way small for 100 people. That's my main problem right now.

I'd agree – or rather I'd prefer a larger map but still have fun on the current one. They've mentioned larger maps already though which makes me wonder if they were just worried about a larger map without vehicles, which are also planned.

How do you change which direction a staircase goes, so either up or down?

Rotate it I believe.

Yeah it was a good shot and to notice me in the first place so fair play to them. One moment alive and happily building with good weapons for the end, then BAM out.

Rocket launchers need to disappear. I just placed #2, because I couldn't get on top of that mountain that was only accessible via self-build-stairs and that fucker was putting rockets into them every time. I died in the storm.

Edit: Unfair. At least fix the circle so it doesn't land on such structures.

That's like saying guns should disappear. Guns make short process of those as well.

Any tips for low-specs PC gamers? I have the game running on my desktop with only the fov on Epic, everything else either on low or none and I'm getting 30-40fps, wish there was a way to lock the fps's to 30 rather than have that fluctuation.

Try play it safe and hiding --- got 6th place with 3 kills.
Try YOLO and going aggressive with base building --- 73rd place with 12 kills.

Still not sure how to take advantage of having a base. Setting up a base only to be forced to leave after a few minutes is tedious.
Solo btw, I guess it makes more sense in a squad.
