Cuphead Review Thread

Im so tired of this shit. How the hell is an 84 bad?
Because people want games on a certain platform and when they are not, they have to make themselves feel good by downplaying said game.

Just call it what it is and move on.

I on the other hand have this baby loaded and I am waiting to jump in.

Reviews are very good. Too bad i sold my Xbox One because this was def the title i would love to play. Have fun everybody

Oops, I'll change to it to "release date embargo", because most games (especially the great ones) have their review embargo lifted at least a day before release.

What the hell? These are really high and possibly unrealistic expectations (assuming you're not trolling), and high 70s? Dude, your math is so bad.

I think the lateness of the reviews was to try and stop the game from being spoiled, specifically thinking of somme of tyhe bosses and transformations. Just my guess though.

This is why I've never cared for a point based scoring system. Too many people focus exclusively on the score and not the content of the reviews. Those types of scoring systems are sometimes also used as a measuring tool for publishers to decide whether or not developers receive a bonus, which is bullshit IMO.
.

Most magazines has a chart with punctuations based on releases, hype and how much money or goodies the publisher drop.

Never trust magazines or opencritics, always go with your gut and fair curators, aka steam pages like mine like I do just for fun

Edit: also friends and fan circles, but I had problems with the last one, so just do whatever you want to

I was always day 1 anyway (despite not being able to play 'til day 2!) but these reviews are better than I was expecting

Work shortly, but will be all over this tomorrow : )

Are we witnessing the birth of the Dark Souls of Platformers?

no proper pc?

No pc at all :(

That wasn't well thought out.

Yeah i was in the need of money at the time and the box was collecting dust and the S just got released so i thought it might be clever to sell while its still worth something (i had the og vcr).
In the end i regret it... like i always am after selling a console.

It's at 87 right now... No idea why you would think it looks like it's going to end up in the high 70s. Also an 87 puts it in the top 3% of all reviewed games. Mid 90s!? There's literally been entire years without a game reaching the mid 90s in the past. Only 3 this year. Peoples expectations are crazy sometimes.

Oops, I'll change to it to "release date embargo", because most games (especially the great ones) have their review embargo lifted at least a day before release.

Dont get me wrong guys, but i was expecting a GOTY contender or at least one of the highest rated game of the year. At least is going to end in the mid 80s, and thats ok.

I definitely prefer the structure of arcade-styled games over what this sounds to be. I'd be interested in learning what the original structure was like: would it still use a world map with nothing but bosses?

Regardless, I'm pumped.

Hey everyone, this is Dusk Golem aka AestheticGamer. I have posted on NeoGAF since 2011, and have decided to resign. I have enjoyed posting about horror games here for years, but I no longer wish to support the site and will be leaving for good. I will still be around the internet, I go by AestheticGamer on YouTube, I make games on Steam as Yai Gameworks, and I plan to go by Dusk Golem on other forums. I'll be joining an off-set of the GAF community leaving to try other ventures like ResetEra (Official Twitter for that here: https://twitter.com/reseteraforum ). I hope some of you who read this may consider it, and I plan to try to expose more people to horror games in the years to come. Just not here.

I hope you all are having a good day, and know I always loved the community, and in the end it's the community I'm going to stick with, not the site itself. If you want to follow me, my official Twitter is here: https://twitter.com/AestheticGamer1

Fine, I'll leave, but I'm taking my sassy wit with me.

Delaying games for quality is always better for sure

Let's just hope that applies to Crackdown and State of Decay 2.

Truly the best game out there!

Ghosts and Goblins is the Dark Souls of platformers.

Grandpa, get back in the basement. :(

Now that you say it, Salt and Sanctuary would have benefitted inmensely if it had the kind of hand made animations Cuphead has.

The game from Ska studios? I like the style, but I too would have love to see a hand-made animated version of it.

Was really worried about how the game would be reviewed due to some of the complaints of the added platforming levels and it's difficulty. Really happy to see Studio MDHR pulled through in the end and most of the reviews are great, this was a game I followed from its inception due to its incredible artstyle/animations and old-school jazz music. I plan to pick it up sometime in the future.
