Secessionist movement is a nationalistic xenophobic movement as FN is, difference being that one directs its hate against muslim people and the other against Spanish people; its the same thing that la Lega Nord calling southern italian" terrones", because they are a richer region.

Disgusting, yes.

Wow I'm getting flashbacks of the 2014 Scottish Independence movement when I was told I hated the English for voting "Yes" which couldn't be further from the truth.

False, i'm Catalan, i know a lot of people who wants to vote yes and all of them (including me) have friends and family from spain outside of catalunya. We don't hate spanish people or Spain. How can we? We all have loved ones from outside catalunya. You're just a liar.

Your anecdotal evidence has convinced me amigo. Sadly the fascist hard data of the most important catalonian political leaders insulting Spanish people, including actual president de la Generalitat, Carles Puigdemont saying that they will "eliminate invasors" speaking about Spanish people http://www.lavanguardia.com/politica/20160110/301312120981/frase-polemica-carles-puigdemont.html contradicts you.

Lamentabla.

Are there quotes of Scotish leaders calling English people inferiors?? Is Scotland richer than the rest of the UK?? I dont think so.

Sorry, I don't know :( I'm just watching it on TV. He's just blaming Catalonian politicians. Nothing said about police brutality so far.

I found it on Euronews, no worries

Also what is he babbling about most Catalans not voting, no-one knows how many did yet...

And they did their best to separate from his persona. Also, only half of the party CiU, (Convergencia i Unió) is broken, Unio side left (which is the part that was closer to Pujol nationalist ideals)

Jordi Pujol is no longer a respected face of the catalonian nationalist movement.

Yeah, the movement was only xenophobic for twenty years, actually until he was found guilty of malversation a couple of years ago and the party tried to separate.

And please, dont let me get started about declarations of CUP political leadres.

Any numbers we get are gonna be false.

The system has been down several times, people have voted even four times... no one can tell the actual number of participants in this illegal shitstorm.

Oh, and he's not taking questions either if I'm not mistaken. God forbid he has to say anything on his own instead of reading a speech some clown wrote for him.

Lol, he fucking thanked the police and Guardia Civil. Horrendous. We live in a fascist state.

Isn't he like prime minister?
Spains prime minister is called "presidente" so we just called him president in english even if the correct translation would be prime minister as it is a parliamentary government.
Our best president is still ZP kinda funny in some ways.

Rajoy says that Spain has a "mature, advanced, kind and tolerant democracy, which is also firm and strong-willed, forming a state under the rule of law with all its guarantees". Source: El País.

Well, that is just pure hypocrisy right there.

It's a unilateral referendum, technically illegal and pretty surely without democratic guarantees.
The government is following its strategy for the past 5 years, a combination of ignoring the conversation and evading dialogue and using the judiciary as a tool, and now they are sendin the police to beat people up over what is effectively a protest with no legal significance. (Save for the fact everything is organized by the regional government, it's an ugly mess)
This is a minority government, and very unpopular, so there is a strong possibility there will be impeachment after this incompetent and violent reaction.

Wow! That’s madness.

Well, he governed Catalonia for more than twenty years and the current President de la Generalitat is from the same political party

Dude, stop with your lies, for your own good:

- Pujol ruled Catalunya for 20 years

- He was never an independentist

- His party leaned to independence when the movement rose, by then he was out

- His party got divided in two, he was leaning more towards the part that's now virtually extinct

You're basically saying that everybody inside a party has the exact same of ideas or are the same entity. Also you show a huge ignorance towards what happened in CiU (now PDCAT).

I say it again: this is an old popular movement (that may have been initiated at the end of the XIX century by the bourgeoisie, I won't say no, but that movement spread to the masses) that current politicians are riding as their own. When they are kicked out, and trust me they will, the movement will stay. You don't fix that by imprisoning the leaders, as they are just representatives.

You should focus your obvious rage to the PP govt for destroying spanish democracy by ruling the Constitutional Tribunal and the Justice in general, effectively declaring null the separation of powers in the State and therefore making the rulings by the CT in the last 12 years wet paper.

Jesus, some off the videos that's popped up on my Facebook feed is off the chain.

Spain, I'm embarrassed to be on the same continent as you.

I feel so disgusted and upset right now. I don't know what to say. This response from Rajoy was just appalling. I've never been more sad and ashamed of being Spanish.

As spanish I feel bad for today. Theres a lot of terrible stuff happening that is the result of our terrible politicians:

- first the recerendum isnt even valid by the own catalonians that didnt vote for their representatives to have a good enough force to pass the bill on the referendum so they totally made this up, but bad also by the opposing force that having the right to stop it didnt move a muscle and left it out to our "brilliant" president. We are seeing the results of that today.

- second the central goverment covers themselves on spanish constitution that is old as hell (most living spanish didnt vote it)...a constitution that punish people for trying to...vote? On a democracy?...wth. there should be a rule that allows referendums, let the people vote ffs. Make a rule 66%, 80% of votes to pass? Whatever but make the change. So we dont have to see images of police attacking old people on tv anymore.

I feel sorry for civilization today.

The facts is that the major nationalistic movement in Catalonia was lead by a racist person, if you think that a man that governed the region for twenty fucking years doesn't represent the way of thinking of their voters you may also well believe that most nazis that voted for Hitler weren't antisemitic.

Also, there are other racist statements by the actual president of Catalonia or Carme Forcadell, the Catalonian Parliament president, you can say that they don't represent what most nationalist catalans think, and I believe that many aren't racist, but a lot of them are, as shown by their leaders

Nationalism is a fucking cancer that has killed millions and is in their way of causing a civil war, or in the best case, the total economic misery of both Spain and specially Catalonia, so well done.

There possibly is just as there's probably quotes of English politicians doing the same to Scots, there's ignorant arseholes on each side and no of course we're not, we're a wealthy country but miles behind the output of England but I don't know what the wealth of the region has to do with my reply to you considering it had nothing to do with the post I quoted of yours. If I'd wanted to discuss the economic output of Catalonia I would have mentioned it or quoted a more relevant post.

My ire was mostly directed towards you tarring an entire secessionist movement and the supporters of said movement of being rich xenophobes who hate all Spaniards, which is pish poor patter and I don't see you backing it up with any sources, probably because you know it's pure shite.

Rajoy was brief, there's football now and that's more important than this little thing that happened today. He said that a "few" were trying to silence the majority. I suppose the retard referred to the cops there.

@Tempus fugit stop embarrassing yourself, you are getting all your facts wrong and you have no fucking idea what the definition of racism is. For fucks sake.

Lol Pedro Sánchez blaming police violence solely on Rajoy and Puigdemont. Even if they were just "following orders" they didn't need to injure over 400 people, what the fuck.

So far Pablo Iglesias has been the only one to give a semi decent response to this shitshow. I don't even wanna know what Albert Rivera is thinking, if he's even capable of thinking at all.

I need a drink. Or a lot of cute cat videos. Maybe both.

So Rajoy didn't even entertain the idea of opening the doors to a political solution.

He really is a complete idiot, does he think this is going away?

Well, read me again, tired of repeating myself, although knowing that you're an Scotish who voted for independence...

If they followed the political route there was no way the secesionism was winning. Nowadays with all this... is point of no return. Rajoy made independent movement because his pure incompetence.

Facts against punchy phrases.

Its almost like law against seny.

You know, it's language like yours that starts wars. For all your alleged hatred of "nationalism" you instead adopt a stridently pro-Spanish Nationalist line. Tone it down.

Yeah was thinking maybe he was the best, but goes to say that it had to be someone who was part of the dictatorship and whose best record is "not fucking things up in the start"

I still think the first four years of Aznar were the best of our democracy, but then it went downhill in 2000 when they achieved majority.

He knows Catalunya is lost and now wants to cement his power everywhere else. It's a lose-lose situation for the people as he fell right into the independentists' trap for his own political gain.

This thing could've been handled 5-10 years ago, now it's unstoppable.
