I don't trust that as much as korok seeds. Too plenty and too wasteful personally. I don't want it to be something like a Rare game.

That, or it will be there "That person with the lower review score than everyone else is just clickbaiting!!!1!!111" like the reaction over the Jim Sterling Breath of the Wild review.

Turns out not everyone necessarily likes a game the same as everyone else. Big whoop.

I mean, that's a given, but it is very ingenuous if you think there aren't any form of clickbaiting or the like, especially when there are definite fanboy or anti-fanboy reviewers out there. The fact that you have to bring it up even though it should be obvious is a bit questioning.

It's funny though when you brought that, considering in that thread someone looked up twitter apparently there was a precedence for it.

What even came out in 2016 for Ninty? Was it just Star Fox and NES Classic for major releases?

Fire Emblem Fates, Pokken, Paper Mario Colour Splash, Pokémon Sun/Moon, TMS#FE, Twilight Princess HD and I'm sure there were a couple of others I'm forgetting. The thought that 2015 was mediocre or bad is something else though.

i think Mario odyssey will be an amazing game, i love that they finally brought back the real 3D Mario

but the scores for any nintendo game is nothing to me, they sympathize with Nintendo

i don't expect Mario odyssey to be lower than 93, my guess is 95

They sympathize? What??? Can it not be Nintendo still makes incredible games? Nevermind we always call out Nintendo's shitty stuff. Did you see Federation Force and Amiibo Festival? Mario Parties in general? Mario Tennis? Star Fox Zero? Yoshi's "New" Island? They got some shitty stuff in their catalogue from the past generation.

Idk man, first console Pokémon game, looks like it might have a big budget and really shake up the formula. It could happen.

If Pokemon and Metroid Prime 4 both get 10/10's, that's it. Nintendo should retire from the industry and ascend into the heavens.

They literally just shook up the formula with Sun & Moon, don't expect another major shake up like that.

You are reviewing a game based on what you "enjoy" not based on what the game's production values are. Its like giving FIFA a 5 because you don't enjoy football.

This is how most people review games, nothing wrong with that. He said he enjoys games in the genre, but BotW didn't seem to do it for him.

Edge is good people.

Work to find the hundreds of korok seeds to expand your paltry invetory system.

Find the 120 shrines and solve simple puzzles so traversal becomes less cumbersome and so you don't get one-shotted in fights.

Traveral to find brittle weapons and other items. Avoid enemies so you don't break them. Stop and start battles because your weapons are so brittle.

The enemies aren't fun to fight so far. Parrying is the easiest way to handle guardians which are supposed to be threatening.

Yeah, 6.5 for me. Easy.

What does BotW do well? Nothing from my time with it.

lol what... i thought you were gonna provide some insight and not just troll, nvm then. these complaints are so reductive. "you actually have to play the game in order to get better at it. in dark souls you HAVE to fight enemies to gain XP. it's so fucked!"

Clearly the Edge reviewer was starving for games on the Switch. Now I haven’t played the game but I bet you all if this game was released on the PS4 it would score not more than 6/10. I mean it’s not even 1080p for crying out loud! Plus it’s Mario, yes sure the game might be fun, but there will be no story in the game. There is no social commentary, no clear message, no depth of characters, hell I doubt there is even any character development in the game. These kinds of games may deserve high scores in the early 90s (no way 10 out of 10 though) because at the time games were primarily targeting kids. However, now as an adult I need something far more complex than Italian plumber riding dinosaurs (lol). I suppose the joke’s on me, expecting a publication who has such a crush for Nintendo to speak out and say the truth, but I really was hoping for a more objective review from EDGE, at least this time around.

You joke, but I have a friend in real life who believes all that word for word.

Diverging paths, interconnected world and being able to tackle areas in a different order... Sure. Linear.

I like Dark Souls but it and Zelda's exploration are so far different. And I do agree in linearity in a sense that the paths you mentioned are linear despite the different order.

Also why does your post sound like something you only looked through reviews. Not that I'm questioning its legibility.

You don't need to find "hundreds" of Korok seeds. You don't need to find all 120 shrines and the fact you probably didn't see more than the first 4 or 6 shrines including the tutorial ones makes it strange to see that you seem to know how simple all those other shrine puzzles are.

Again, learn to use something else than your main weapon in combat. It's not hard. You didn't even find a Guardian who's not without legs don't you?

You do need to do fetch quests and solve boring puzzles to make cumbersome and frustrating design choices less cumbersome and less frustrating.

Happy with that explanation?

Also, I don't find alternative ways to fight enemies more effective than using flurry rush.

I've killed 3 guardians. One had legs.

It was piss easy.

10/10 is an amazing score and it's obvious that EPD is delivering the kind quality Mario experience you'd expect, now with a refreshing twist.

Still, people get too invested in review scores. We all knew that we were getting a grand "adventure platforming" kind of Mario game here, and a lot of us were going to eat it up anyway. The score is just a nice way to say "hey, they didn't screw this up."

The best aspect of a 10/10 for Super Mario Odyssey is the assurance that we're not getting more of the same. We're not getting something safe and boring. We're getting something familiar, yet brand new, with classic yet re-invigorated gameplay and tons of creativity in the world design. This isn't another Mario Galaxy 2 where the new game is just a pure refinement of its predecessor (not that there's anything wrong with that). This is like starting a new slate with new concepts, yet it's still a 10/10 from Edge's point of view. That's what makes it promising and that's why I'm personally excited.

Now we just have to see what the rest of the press thinks.

Lmao I totally forgot Pokken came out in 2016, and that was one of my favorites that year. That list is actually not bad on it's face for major releases. It's no 2015 or 2014 though.

what

you don't need to do those, like at all, I didn't even do any fetch quest outside of that one kid

and why the fuck are you wasting time doing flurry rushing when you can just bow enemies, or just strike them? felt like pointless effort

Is 3 hours not enough time to see what the game is?

It's ridiculous to reply to a thread specifically to argue that a game got a 10/10 review because you played 3 hours and would give it a 6.5.

You don't have to like it. But no, you can't fairly give a 100 hour game a score at all if you've only played 3 hours.

Find the 120 shrines and solve simple puzzles so traversal becomes less cumbersome and so you don't get one-shotted in fights.

I think there might be another issue here.

It'd get 6/10 if it was by anyone else and called "Bario Odyssey".

humansarehorses doesn't like BotW.

Why are you all continuing to engage him/her? It's been like 6 months since that game came out, you're not suddenly going to change his/her mind in a review thread.

Oi vey.

Also post histories are fun if you want to see the mindset.

The delivery though, like you don't make a claim then expect everyone to agree, especially if you put it like it's a form of fact.

Also it's being compared to the review, so it is somewhat relevant. I still don't trust Edge (still not believing that amount of moons) but that's aside.

No surprise whatsoever. Expecting SMO to be either number one or number two in regards to most perfect scores awarded. Only question is will it surpass Zelda: BOTW or not???

? To expand the inventory I can carry, I need korok seeds, don't I? Or is there some way for me to get an unlimited item box that isn't a complete chore? And to get more stamina, I need to solve boring shrine puzzles.

So you expect anyone to believe you went from the tutorial plaza, killed a guardian stalker with what you could have gathered, all within three hours of your first starting the game.

Nah.
