Tom Hanks is the last hope for humanity.

Correction, he's the last hope for black people everywhere.

People forget that Polanski raped someone and is still a respected director. As wrong as Affleck was, he'll have no trouble getting movies made.

Hammer or Jon Hamm are the only ones I want right now in lieu of Affleck. They gotta have like a don draper swagger to them

I don't see him being fired tho tbh. This story doesn't seem like it will snowball that far

Get em! No one in any industry should tolerate this shit. Not just Hollywood.

Not just Hollywood. Your local McDonalds. Best buy. Walgreens. Administrative offices all around the world. Anywhere there's a job that pays money and a power dynamic for scumbags to exploit.

Very fucking well said. Any decent human being should have their eyes open for this kind of thing wherever they are, whatever they're doing. The only way to stamp it out is to rewrite the culture that permits it.

Will never understand why some men think this is hot. I mean, maybe a horny 10 year old who doesn't know anything, but a grown man?

'wow i for a split second touched a woman wowowow'

Besides obviously being disgusting, offensive, repulsive, etc, I just don't understand why someone would want to do it.

Like the vast majority of sexual assaults, it's about power. "I can get away with this, so I'm going to do it." It's yet another abuse of privilege: Hollywood bigshot, corporate fat-cat, politician, media darling, teacher, cop, sibling, parent. It's not that other types of people aren't abusive; it's that people in these positions have both access to potential victims, and an awareness of the security that all too often shields them from consequences.

I don't believe that power corrupts, but I do believe it can embolden certain people to free the inner predator they would otherwise keep on a tight leash. We should be much more vigilant when it comes to these people, and things like managers refusing to close doors to their offices when speaking one on one with colleagues is a great start.

There's an important quote regarding that video right below the link. It's also covered in more detail later in the thread.

There are actual accusations here -- one of which he admitted to -- so it would be nice to focus on that rather than the video, which the host has come out and commented on.

He was never liked ever since internet is a thing. Jackie Chan is not Stephen Chow.

I've read somewhere Stephen Chow is a pain to work with. Micromanager type. Not enough to hate him of course.

Eta- grabbing ass and putting finger to crack is blatant shit.

Yes, everywhere. From nerd dens like ScreenJunkies & Silicon Valley to your everyday Walmarts & libraries to institutions of education to politics & finances to Hollywood with its charismatic actors and power crazed executives, even among relatives. This kind of male behaviour is unfortunately everywhere.

Note: everywhere doesn't mean everyone. But this shit is pervasive through all of society everywhere in the world. Maybe you don't hear about it because either you aren't close enough with any woman that they'd tell you such things or they just otherwise decide not to tell you/others (victims often blame themselves or are ashamed of it happening to them and thus can keep it to themselves, to some inappropriate comments & advances are such a common thing that they don't see it worth mentioning anymore).

Only reason to be offended is if the accusation describes you.

I think Affleck's already been on the way out of the role as Batman for awhile now. There's been a ton of smoke behind-the-scenes over the past year that he wanted out. This would just be the push that seals the exit from WB, I think.

The only bad thing I know about Viggo is that he voted for Jill Stein after Bernie didn't get the democratic nomination. Yeah, he was one of those people.

But aside from that I've never been aware of any controversies around the guy.

So much for the Affleck Batman movie.

The film itself is undoubtedly still going to happen. Will it happen with Affleck? That may be up in the air now.

is every powerful man a sex predator? I just don't understand it. You'd think some normal people would achieve high status

The saying about absolute power corrupts absolutely is more accurate than many think. It's human nature for those in power to oppress those that don't. It sucks but it's true.

I'm far from perfect but I'm not capable of randomly groping people and just completely not seeing their humanity. As with I suspect many people, it's just not in my character, and I can't imagine how money and fame and power would change any of that. The idea that it would is kind of scaryh

Doesn't sound sincere considering he apologized only after he got dragged out to the limelight with that Harvey Weinstein fiasco. He was coasting and relying on everyone forgetting the incident.

Add to that he forged ignorance with his statement about Harvey Weinstein on facebook, and even not calling Weinstein out despite knowing it...

He is a fucking piece of shit human.

I always look back at Afflect for defending Muslims on that one segment of Bill Maher fondly, but i guess people are complex creatures...

Not everyone of course, but I think it's pretty obvious it's true. If you are low on empathy, I think it's pretty easy to turn into an asshole when you are in a power position.

Being micro manager is just an unpopular working style for people who work with him though. At least this show he's passionate about work and you can't totally fault someone for that.

It is scary, but no one is immune to the influence of power. People who are totally normal and moral by all measures will act differently if they have power, or if an authority figure is pushing them to act a certain way.

Here's links to a couple of classic experiments:

I'm sorry but calling Weinstein out doesn't fall on Affleck. At all. Last I checked Harvey didn't sexually harass him. Ben going to press at that point in Weinstein's career with "well it didn't happen to me but so and so said...". That story gets squashed before it comes out. The few big name actresses that Harvey harassed would've been the best bet to stop him early.

Yeah he's been a flake ever since his movie bombed and his personal life started to go downhill. I'd be down for Lee Pace to take over. After catching up on Halt and Catch Fire, I think he'd be perfect as Bruce and he has the stature for Batman. He balances being a sociopath with genuine sadness and likeability really well.

Clive Owen.

Don't explain or. Just have Clive Owen take the role over. With a big trunk.

Of course he is, the sexual harassment gene run deep in the Affleck blood.
Who doesn't see this miles away? He was a creep on camera for more than once.

Multiple people. Two more women have come forward that he had sex with them when they were underage.

Its different. If the media doesn't create enough momentum for the story it dies out. Women had already alleged Crosby raped them, multiple women. But it took Hannibal Burres to really get the train going.

My point is, its not just the crime, its also the media reaction. At the climate is a bad one for this shit, as it should. Affleck could get caught into the same web that Devin stinkFinga Faraci, Harry, Signore and their master Harvey Weinstein have spun.

If Affleck gets caught up in the same tsunami of rage, he'll be drowned like the rest. And as bad as Devin and Andy are, and I am glad their careers are over, not sure if they deserve to be associated with serial rapists for the rest of their lives, lol.

I hope this helps demystifying big stars and sets boundaries for lesser known ones. On the other hand aren't they exactly what they supposed to be?

Don't get me wrong I'm not supporting any of this fucked up behaviour, but don't we live in a time where money or fame gives you so much distance to the regular people that rules just don't matter anymore? Still fans and regular people follow them every step, I mean look at all the magazines, shows and websites dealing with this kind of shit.

Treat someone like they are above anyone else and they start believing it. Those with no character strength or like in these cases a rotten character will behave like the gods they were shown to be.

Still not saying that any of this shit comes from being star propably they have been this kind of people their whole life, but I think the scent of fame enables them to do their shit and evolve it even further.

He won't. Weinstein thing won't stick to him. His own bad behaviour he will have to take in the chin but he's not really Cosby or Harvey in that regard. And I don't believe his case will escalate to that. I hope not at least. But if someone really blames Ben for not outing Weinstein with zero leverage I guess someone will start blaming Judd, Paltrow and Jolie in the coming weeks. "They coulda stopped this!" etc.

Being in power is not going to make someone who doesn't get off on imposing themselves sexually on other people suddenly start waving their genitals in people's faces in private.
