ew they pronounce SNES wrong.... :p

Thanks this looks great

Absolutely amazing channel - his list vids should be helpful to anyone looking to find some ‘hidden gems' and JPN only releases

I didn't get a SNES until years after release when it was very much a retro console so channels like this have been invaluable to me. In particular I did think the channels "list" videos would be very useful to people with this SNES Mini Classic as it has been to me over the years.

I've not actually used hakchi on either of our SNES Minis yet but I was really into it on with the NES Mini. I bought two of those also and used one for SNES games as I already had one of the free Wii SNES Classic Controllers from years ago.

As well as using the NES Minis for myself I've also used them with carefully curated catalogues to introduce the kids to these games. I'm not the sort of person who would stick hundreds of games on them because it so easy to lose interest when you do that and I thought it was particularly important to well curate the games with introducing the kids to these consoles too.

I've not had the chance to do it wit the SNES Minis but I'd also rather wait until hakchi settled down on the console a bit as it was pretty volatile on the NES Mini for quite some time.

If you play Flames of Eternity instead of the original, just be aware of what exactly it is. Obviously I may not be neutral, but this dude on Reddit gives a decent summary of the whole CE/FoE thing:

Considering this is a thread about Snes Mini, and you can't play Crimson Echoes on a Snes Mini because it requires ZSNES, there isn't really a point in saying one is better than the other.

The point is just providing information, since the poster wanted to play CE and may or may not know what FoE is.

So is there anywhere I can find boxarts for games like Chrono trigger that is using the black border box template that the snes classic is using? I'm trying to decide whether I want to stick with the classic template, or use those awesome custom boxarts in the OP.

Also, has anyone tried Radical Dreamers with this yet? I didnt see it in the spreadsheet(unless I missed it).

In my experience (I have HDMI2HDMI+audio) it outputs loud enough for headphones. But if I want volume control I use a headphone amp. Or external speakers with volume control.

No. Check your ROM.

The custom firmware only adds 10 lines of code to the original. So it's more likely that your power supply isn't good enough.

I can't power through my Switch dock or Projector so I now use a portable battery.

Check the Dr Mario patch.

What's the best (and free) Windows 10 program to hex edit a ROM?

Been playing around with the cover art, and bottom row of thumbnails. Edit a bunch of the images that are floating around, and made some of my own. Then I batch edited them to make the thumbnails at the bottom with photoshop. I'm happy with how it's looking!

I'll upload all the game icons later.

These look awesome. I think it looks a lot better than the regular SNES box art they use. Can't wait for the upload.
Here's a small album of Switch style icons I either made or edited.

I also made a little crappy video of how I got my little thumbnails down the bottom looking nice. It requires photoshop and is made for the Switch style icons.

For those wondering, I'm giving up on Terranigma for the time being till I hear back from any of the people I tried to get in contact with who know more about the SNES programming than me. In the mean time I'm going to take a day to play some games then I'll see if I have any better luck with robotrek.

Notepad++ with the hex editor plugin. Install both, then load the rom, then click "plugins -> hex editor -> view hex"

It says to install the hex editor plugin by selecting “plugin manager” in Notepad, but I’m not seeing that option anywhere in the menu. I could have sworn I checked to enable plugins during setup, too.

Sorry, but about Illusion of Gaia again: I used an .ips patcher to apply the patch Robin posted to the US rom. Game works on the newest version of hackchi, but transparencies are borked, at least I get big fat black bars when I have to set up things at the beginning. Help?

Just copy the hex editor plugin directly into the plugin folder, restart, and the option will be in the plugin menu. No need to use the plugin manager.

This is an issue with Canoe. It's not handling color addition/subtraction properly (not the same as transparencies which DO work in this game). The opening menu is the only time this bug is present. It's not present in game anywhere that I found (I only played an hour or two though). This isn't fixable on the ROM end and Nintendo isn't likely to release a patch for it :)

I see that it says 63+ with pages and folders disabled and snes mini crashes. Someone told me they have alot more and it doesnt crash? Are they wrong? Also if I want more than 63 what settings do I pick?

It's 62 total items per page. You can have as many pages/folders as you want.

Even if you don't have problems with more than 63 games, you can have issues if you use a lot of save states if you have it set to more than 30 per folder. I think the absolute safest setting is 20 games per folder, but 30 is probably fine in general. That's the reason the default is set to 30.

Oh ok that makes sense. Thank you.

Same, I was of the age that grew up with the SNES but I never bought one and only started gaming in 96 with the SNES. Love these type of channels

- I have more background to share. This post will be updated.
- Original Art MarioRPG.
- Original Art for Turtles in Time.
- Can't find the Original author for the Zeal one.
- Added a QR Code for Mortal Kombat Bg who leads to a gamefaqs url with moves and finishers.
- I guess i have the same idea for snesbox and snesus but i could not post them until today. I'll share them anyway.

Can you guess which bg is my favourite?

Can't wait to make some artwork.
This was a hell of a week at my work, but making these backgrounds was very relaxing.

Alright, thanks for the info. If it's only the opening menu I can certainly live with it :)

where there any games that involved you solving puzzles in various rooms for the snes? i dont know what genre that'd fall under

Do you mean like an Adventure game (Zelda) with only some emphasis on solving puzzles, or a full on puzzle game like the Adventure of Lolo series on NES?

The only thing that comes immediately to mind is The Lost Vikings and its sequel. I'm not really big on puzzle games.

can i change the box art for the original snes classic games? or do i need to switch out those for roms to change the art?
Basically, yeah. Using an FTP you can extract the games and artwork themselves from the mini intact and readd them using Hakchi and custom artwork.

Can you get back to the main menu without hitting reset? Start select l and r just resets the game.
You can change what button combination to use to reset to root menu in Hakchi under Settings and Controller Hacks. Recommended to change it back to Down+Select like it was previously. Not sure why they insist on using a button combination that SNES games already use for soft reset.

Like the other poster said, if you want a game where each room is a puzzle, then go to gamefaqs, enter the SNES system section and select the genre Puzzle. You'll see a list of puzzle games, some will be Tetris-like, but others will be one-room puzzle games like Ka-blooey, or Troddlers.

Now, if you want action/adventure/RPG games with puzzles, then there's Lost Vikings, Brainlord, Lufia 2, Goof Troop, etc.

If i edit the small thumbnails do I have to worry about them getting overwritten at all? Or do they get overwritten when you change the large cover art?
