Black Panther - Official Trailer

Can someone with more comic knowledge explain how the suits are just forming over their skin?

I thought it was Vibranium armor that one had to put on like any other set of clothing.

The suit is vibranium. It's just not completely inert like Cap's shield because it's designed by smarter and more creative people in modern times. That's the entire point of Wakanda. They do shit that nobody else is doing.

Is this trailer going to ruin or spoil too much of the movie for me?

:-/

There are definitely enough snippets that you can make decent guesses at the overall story.

My theory (spoilers just in case I end up getting some stuff right):

The movie likely picks up a year or two after Civil War. Ulysses Klaw attempts to sneak into Wakanda to steal vibranium (something we know is totally up his alley from Age of Ultron). Everett K. Ross is tracking Klaw for the CIA and follows him into Wakanda, only to be found and threatened with death by Klaw's crew. Black Panther then steps in to save him, dispatch with Klaw's men and capture the thief. This leads to the interrogation scene from the first trailer and the scene in this trailer where Ross is confused and then amazed at what he learns to be the truth of Wakanda.

Before they can do anything, though, a masked Killmonger breaks in and springs Klaw from his restraints. We find out that Killmonger and his parents were exiled from Wakanda when he was a baby for their politics, primarily against the Royal Family. He's seen as an outcast primarily, but is still somewhat close with Shuri, BP's sister and a top engineer/scientist, whom he grew close to during their shared time together at MIT.

Killmonger's plan is to recruit Klaw to get money/muscle/access so that he can mount a coup in Wakanda and take the throne for himself, promising the thief a ton of vibranium once he's assumed power. Killmonger tricks Shuri and is able to steal a prototype Panther suit (the gold one we see in the trailer) to overpower T'Challa. Luckily, the young king is saved from true harm by the Dora Milaje, but the interaction leaves him uncertain and spiritually injured. He turns to the advice of his ancestors and former Panthers in the Land of the Dead, giving him the clarity and focus to defeat Klaw and Killmonger, cementing his worthiness as warrior and king, and returning Wakanda back to safety. All is as it was, save one detail - T'Challa decides to go public with the truth of Wakanda's splendor. The Golden City hides no longer. Roll credits.

Man...I'm really intruiged to see how this poster will be changed up in China.

I know people always joke about this but is this something that happens all the time over there or has it only happened with The Force Awakens?

It happens in other countries, too, but I think China is particularly notable for it. I know there were some awkward apologies after Italy's 12 Years a Slave poster.

Pointing out that this is probably going to open up with them in S.Korea. Killmonger hops out of a Korean ambulance truck, so I imagine the interrogation and subsequent prison break take place in Korea, with T'Challa in pursuit

I’m not worried about Killmonger as a villain, I think his arc throughout the plot will be fine. CGI looked really spotty but they have until January, and I didn’t feel any of those action scenes. The editing and cutting of this trailer was poor too. The suit transformations are badly done, but I continue to totally dig Chadwick’s accent.

That said, Black Panther is still my most anticipated MCU movie and have been for a while, and I look forward to exploring my beloved Wakanda and welcoming back my king!

Garbage music didn't fit the trailer, cgi looked a little wonky and I have my doubts about the main actor - but the rest of the cast will make this a must watch. Hopefully they stay away from the corny jokes that Marvel have been forcing into every movie since Guardians, the trailer made it seem like the movie is going for a different tone which I'm super happy about.

There are no corny jokes in any MCU movies.

Didn't like the trailer music, I just don't think movie trailers should include songs with lyrics, muffles some of the spoken dialogue for me. Looked like the last scene was the two panthers fighting somewhere in Asia, hope its an organic story choice and not pandering. Otherwise looks good, although since I know virtually nothing about the comic book Black Panther stuff all the deep looks the characters give each other while they talk about Wakanda are kinda lost on me.

The whole idea of a hyper advanced city is so cool and it looks awesome. When the ship goes through the cloaking(?) fields was a great shot.

But whats up with the tranformers-esque sound effects, like at 1:42 and around 2:00. That immediately stuck out to me.

Wakanda is good mix of advanced technology and a bit of mysticism (at least in the comic book). We'll have to see if they will show anything from the mysticism side in the movie, we already have our introduction to magic in Doctor Strange so its possible.

What is that purple dream world with the train

I really feel like Ryan Coogler is going nuts experimenting with all the big budget effects work he's dreamed about doing. Hope it all ties together. The shot of Panther skydiving was dope

Nice surprise, movie looks great, found the trailer music annoying though.

Looks like hes gonna be doing some next level stuff compared to his appearance in civil war, I like that they really kicked it up a notch.

Daaaaaaamn what a great trailer.

Brb gonna search the thread because someone had to be ignorant for rap music like me and asked what track this is.

edit nope can't find it. What's the track?

another edit: found it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2e52vw7RR-A, but it's still heavily modified I think.

From time to time, Black Panther speaks to his ancestors to share in their wisdom when he's faced with a tough situation/decision. He does this in Necropolis, a land of the dead.

Man, homie wasn't lying though. The song from the previous trailer that featured Nas was infinitely better. Then again, I'm not really a fan of Vince Staples, except for Ascension and that likely has more to do with the production than what he is actually saying and his sound on there.

That wasn't Nas saying "Step into the Spotlight"? Sounded like him

EDIT; Ahhh, ok, it was Run the Jewels. Ehhhh. I thought Legend Has It was the better and meshed better with the trailer but opinions...
