It's sickening people are showing their true color

No, this is not an account suicide, so don't ban me.

I have been reading and watching some youtube videos regarding the recent development regarding NeoGAF.

To be quite honest, it just feels wrong.

I am talking about people trying to take advantage of this weak moment of this forum trying to promote their own forums (whether it is existing forum, not entirely new forum just made over the weekend). Sure, I can see that it could be a good business to try to get some of the members from GAF but it does show that these people who criticize GAF is really just kicking it while it is down and more over, trying to benefit from it.

I mean, even people here do it/did it, like the mods making new forums to replace this one.

I really wish we have an OT forum to discuss non gaming stuff like this one here...but I guess we will have to wait.

and if it is an appropriate, then delete it, but don't delete me obviously:)

I think there's an anti gaf. I went there once. A cesspool of banned people from GAF. There's a reason people were banned let's just say that.

Makes me wonder how well all these new forums will do with a fractured NeoGaf community.
There are several offshoots springing up and none will be as big as gaf (once) was. Gaf will likely continue to decline as people flock to these offshoots.

No one wants Gaf members except other Gaf members. It’ll be interesting seeing what new forums end up making it and which ones die off.

I have learned of those over the weekend and I am not going to be a hypocrite and say I haven't visited them or will not. In the end, if this here dies, I will have to find a new place. Just sick of hearing how much they dislike it here and then like, here, go here, here's a new place we made just for you.

People are all selfish in some way

There were only a few good actual mods here and those are the guys most peope hated in the wild. The ones that don't let people have much opinion. Speevy and a few were alright but honestly bish was too much

At want point are people accepted, how to treat all well even when we disagree with who they are

I plan on sticking around till I see where most of the community will migrate too. For now though, this is the only decent place to discuss games.

I compared it on Sl&ENT to Voldemort taking over the Ministry of Magic.

It's either being taken over with "no more SJW's" people or spinless nerds who aren't creative or informed enough to talk about other stuff that isn't "yaaay, video games". I get that a lot of you suffered from, possibly, excessive moderation, but in most cases I've seen that it wasn't because of your opinions but simply because you never cared about actually informing or debating anything. And even if you did, o boo hoo, suck it up. You continued reading because the content being produced by the community was worth it and most of the people who actually made NeoGAF worth it, are gone.

And staying here is just being complicit in EvilLore's behavior anyway. If you really cared about the community here and video games, guess what? The majority of NeoGAF is moving on and starting over, if you really do care, go there or start your own community.

As of 20 mins after Gaf coming back online there were 194,845 members listed on the front page, 2 hours later it had dropped by 104, as of now it's gone UP to 195,002, go figure lol.

I think it will be fine, now lets go to the Winchester for a pint and wait for this to blow over.

i have no interest in going to any bootleg neogaf site. if i one day migrate somewhere else it will be a board i found myself just like i did neogaf many years ago.

Gaf wait lists can be weeks or months long (think it took me over a month) so that really doesn't say much since each account is hand authorized.

Self-interest and self-preservation are common threads in us all. Some of us have more integrity than others, but to a degree, those traits are in us all. The older I get, the more that becomes apparent.

Itd be nice to see the statistic of how it impact neogaf userbase as a whole. How big is neogaf before the allegation

So many people asking for bans .. are posting racist, disrespectful posts, NSFW pictures, memes and many other stuff.

It's like the many times we see people write "I am not a racist" but goes on to say something racist. So many people are just wolves in sheep's clothes and acting all high and mighty.

I am not defending the owner of the site. In fact, I joined this site without knowing the history. Just knew it was a great source of gaming news and some great people. I myself was banned a few times for defending Nintendo (I own all consoles btw) from trolls. But isn't it overboard to claim "rapist", "murderer" etc without getting all facts right? We are still all adults right?

Some posters in some of these threads make me think they might be right... Hoping moderation catches up with them once the suicides slow down.

Never been banned. Always been pro-gaf.

Losing GAF is depressing as hell, but GAF is dead, if you're still posting here your brain broke. GAF is done. Do not support this website any more.

If you were in the discord you would see all of the people who made gaf great, ready to make another forum great. What you liked about GAF isn't coming back.

Tbh many of the people that are outraged were just holding a grudge against the site to begin with. They don't give a shit.

There are people on this site that genuinely left, but I can't imagine that it was that big of a chunk.

Honestly, I just care about the site itself. I just want to browse the forums and get news quickly without any trolls.

Watching a lot of these people who are happy for the changes is fine, but then watching a bunch of them immediately turn to trolling anyone not happy with the change... Yeah quite a few have already shown their real colors alright.

They will all fail in 2 weeks and everyone will be back here.

There is an unflux of new users.

What type of people do you think will be signing up in the midst of all this? (Apart from of course the people who signed up months ago and are still awaiting approval)

GAF will never be the same after this.

protest boards almost never ever succeed. other than the first handful of people it will be hard for it to grow since people won't know these boards exist. there is also the danger of some of the people there not liking certain things and then splitting off and creating their own boards. i've seen this stuff play out over the many years i've been going to message boards.

GAF has been around before the political and social wars, and it’ll be around after.

Welcome to 2017. Where the assholes show how ugly and uncaring they truly can be. Be proud of the apathy you hold to everything but consuming media. Assholes.

There is also a ton of people who should never have been banned. Many mods abused their privilege to ban people they didn't like vs breaking any rules. Hopefully that will change with them gone now but it is a wait and see.

If the mods will be as strict as before...anyone misbehaving will be removed I would assume..

Or maybe they should do a freeze on accepting new accounts.

I doubt any of the offshoots will reach consensus on what they want, other than pile on GAF. Personally I'm fine with people leaving who aren't interested in gaming discussion or don't want to stay on a forum owned by someone who they feel ill towards. Politics and moderation around it made this place hard to deal with and toxic IMO.

Maybe in time this forum will heal and become a great place to get your gaming news and discussion without drama, but there's certainly a lot of baggage so who knows. My personal opinion is that banning political discussion is the right way to go, and people who disagree or can't live on a forum owned by Malka should go. Preferably without vitriol, but as long as they're not here it's all fine.

I think there's always been a anti gaf or alternate gaf. The opposite negative zone type forums. The name that comes to mind for me (a old old one) could be bannable to mention even though I'm sure it doesn't exist. There were multiple back then even. Mostly made up of banned people, in their new mod free zone where they could be as racist and mean as they wanted to be. I tried it for a bit (to see what it was about), it was no fun.

I'm just going to start getting used to reddit and twitter for news, gaming and other stuff. I was so bored on my phone this weekend during times I was away and had to kill time.

yeah, the alt-right/gg trash was having a gold old time of this - and i do hope this place stays not allowing them, because that garbage should be denied a platform at every opportunity

that said, OT was a huge loss & the reason for the exodus doesn't seem to be addressed.

I think it will, people like familiar.. and if you look at the real world, most news/drama is over in a couple of weeks or even days ,people just move on to new news/drama.

Never have I been on a forum as long as Neogaf and participated on one, I am here to stay.

And this whole thing is very convenient, as all over the world are stories popping up about this topic.. so you can say it's news heavy.

Old news is old, how is Thailand after the tsunami for example, more than 10 years ago?, it's non-news, yet living there is still terrible. That's the world we live in... shock and awe news is, gossip worthy.

I’ve been involved with the death throws of a few large community forums... I think gaf will be ok albiet missing some users.

People will break off and will try to promote their own forums, and find how difficult it is maintaining a forum. If any of them do take off it will only show what a pain in the ass a popular forum is. You always feel like your juggling balls of shit that don’t really matter in the long run.

Gaf has some sub communities that are very tight and can run off to run their own little spectrum of the internet, the issue than becomes it’s just you and your online buddies who all talk alike. Acquiring new members is never easy and people get leery of letting new people into such small groups.

Anecdotal fun, I remember the collapse of the largest maplestory story community due to the owner using our contribution funds to pay for his cost of living. None of us mods got paid for months until the owner vanished with the few thousand dollars we had saved up to keep the forums alive.

One of our best contributors left and started his own forum lamenting how awful we were. The karma point; a year later he couldn’t afford the cost and asked for Paypal donations to view exclusive news first. Money that ultimately went to him, same drama killed his forum.

Worst was a PSO community hub i did forum design for and the owners wife left him for a mod who was a real life friend. Site was shut down and I never heard from him again. Sad...

I'm here. Don't feel great about it. I feel kinda conflicted, to be frank.

While we were down I learned a new appreciation for gaming Reddit, but my forays into Something Awful just kind of reminded me why I left. It's so compartmentalized you miss out on a lot of things if you don't go to a bunch of different subforums. I guess the same could be said of Reddit.

You know what I did learn in all this, politics and social stuff aside? The value of a good mobile layout. GAF mobile is a beautiful thing, as is Reddit is Fun. A forum without a great mobile user experience is almost useless.

I don't know that GAF will ever be what it once was, but I also don't know if there's room in 2017 for a new successful forum in a world of Reddit and Twitter, either.

I guess we'll find out, folks.

I do know one thing for sure, wherever you post, decent people shouldn't be scared to post.
