Warhammer Vermintide Runs at Native 4K on Xbox One X; 1440p Pro

Pro was made with checkerboard in mind. I wish more companies would do at the very least 1800c over 1440p.

Sony apologist?
It's entirely possible some of these devs just don't how to do it. That doesn't seem unreasonable, does it. I know the X is a

So you can just hit the 4k switch for native 4k beastmode but perhaps some devs aren't sure on the checkerboard approach or simply choose not to do it for the Pro which is not a

I look forward to playing Horizon ZD, Spider-Man, and God of War in stunning X1X 4K.

Look, the X1X is obviously the more powerful box, but 1440p is stunning on its own, and the PS4 Pro is the best way to experience Sony's catalog. Joking about its abilities (at a lower price point, a year ago) is just silly.

Should the gulf be that big? I thought the X was something along the lines of 50% more powerful in terms of GPU. I know the cpu is faster and the RAM is up from 8 to 12GB but it seems like the X has really been beating the pro by wider margins.

Not to mention a year newer and 100 dollars more expensive.

Edit: eh, you just said that.

Again, if one resolution has 100 percent more pixels that doesn’t mean the game looks 100 percent better

Watch the DF video comparing Pro and X on Infinite Warfare. The image is a little bit cleaner on X. The resolution boost is nice but is more impressive on paper than being observed.

The other things X can do, like 4k assets and higher graphical settings, those are the real difference makers and hopefully more games utilize those kinds of enhancements moving forward

Again? I haven't asked any questions in regards to this subject but once. But I get your point.

I can't watch anything right now since I'm at work. Albeit not working atm.

I wonder if most 3rd parties will go for 1440p while 1st and 2nd parties would try for a checkerboard.

I do agree that missing effects will probably hurt presentation on games that are already rendering past 1080p.

Not sure why devs aren’t embracing checkerboard rendering on Pro

I dont know but I would imagine it requires more work, which requires more money.

The question is to devs/pubs, Will a 1800p checkerboard pro version make more money and cover the costs to implement checkerboarding or would it sell exactly the same as a 1440p version.

Xbox One X is also probably helped by it's additional memory, 3.5GB over the PS4 Pro. If the Pro had some more additional memory it could probably reach higher resolutions more often.

What is the Pro's bottleneck that X's 40% GPU boost is translating to 200% performance gains?

i don't think there's a bottleneck, I think the pro is a 1440p machine when playing most current gen games. But that's the reason why sony encourages cb rendering and added hardware to make that easier, so that the machine can achieve those higher resolutions despite not havng the raw horsepower for it. Like others have said, it's a shame that some developers aren't using it

It's the result of MS's extensive custom work on the Scorpio Engine when they ran over 30,000 emulations of every AAA game engine and seeing where bottlenecks were happening. All of the custom work and of course their hardware advantages all come together to produce these results :)

If that's the case the lazy turds need to fix gaming mode on PC already.

That's some serious secret sauce or massive heap of horse doo-doo.

Either way it's been decently impressive. They just need to make all previous gen games play at 4k and I'll buy one.

The results speak for themselves so obviously MS weren't bullshiting

1440p is 2560x1440 that pushes 3,686,400 pixels

4K is 3840x2160 that pushes out 8,294,400 pixels

4K is pushing out 2.25x or 225% more pixels :)

okay so gpu is about 40% more powerful, 50% more ram, 40% more ram bandwidth, 10% more cpu = 2 times the output?

It would be interesting to know how games like these perform on pc GPU's that match the pro/x's tflop numbers, such as the Amd 570 and 580.
Then we can See how much a console architecture helps.

We know that MS made some DX12 functions handled by hardware in the X. So it will be interesting for sure to see PC equivalents.

I'd imagine MS put a good deal of effort into making the Scorpio engine as robust as they could. It seems they took to being the weaker of the systems to heart and decided to really double down on making something powerful and seemingly easy to program for.

But this is all "tales from my rear" speaking. Every body knows the games run worse on ps4 pro because of lazy devs or whatever the current excuse for why the stronger system pushes more pixels, amirite?

Guys it’s pretty simple. Two words: memory bandwidth! The PS4 pro is bottlenecked for 1440p+ resolutions by bandwidth and fill rate (and to a lesser extent memory size). Remember increasing resolution increases EVERYTHING in the game including post-FX res, alpha load, shadows etc. The perf just tanks at a rate beyond the linear pixel count once you become bandwidth constrained. That’s why the perf difference is so much larger than 40%.

The memory size has more to do with why games aren’t using higher graphical settings since higher setting require higher RAM

Ps4 pro version run at lower resolutions because of the 1X's 1.8tflops more GPU power, 108gbps more ram bandwidth,3.5gb more ram, and 200mhz cpu clock advantage.
Both sony and MS made customisations to there hardware but the differences we are seeing in games are true to what the spec differences suggest.
Same as the X1 and PS4.

Look. Stop trying to make sense. It's because the ps4 has a v4 engine and the X has a w16 with twin turbos.

Or its because devs are lazy. Goddammit stick to the script. If people start making sense then how will the console wars continue?

yeah, the ram thing makes the most sense. And please God let someone tell me there is no such thing as a v4. It would make my day.
