Xbox to address multi platform games in spring, says former employee

They'll have to adress this stuff sooner rather than later.

I'll bet my account vs yours. There is no chance of GamePass coming to PS5.

And again, what does controlling the message do to sell xbox units today. You're assuming they'll eventually deny the rumors, because that is the only thing that would slow the stem of concern from the xbox community over the future of xbox. Commenting on it at all other than to say it isn't true hastens the end of xbox.

How does them saying they're releasing games multiplatform control the message today that not commenting on it doesn't?
You joined in 2021, I joined in 2005, seems like a slightly unfair bet lmao
Let’s just pretend to be adults and stick to the official word to not cloud the talk further, the speculations will get wild enough as it is when there is no details out. And trust no one. Rumours will run wild for a couple months if they really plan to keep quiet until spring, and it’s far too easy to make shit up on the internet, assume that everyone is a snake with an agenda.

And what if they port most of their games and some even start launching day one? Will that also be hilarious? 🤔
This is not happening because again they just had a direct in which they doubled down on exclusivity to their platform. That’s would have been the place to do it not announce a bunch of exclusive to then say they’re going multi platform. Why not make Indian jones multi platform then? In the ftc case those documents all point to the opposite of this Microsoft had a bunch of games scheduled for multi platform that they went and cancelled and made exclusive. The only play I can see here is them throwing the other platforms older games and some not considered major exclusive in order to acquire more studios.

They aint going to just slap the PS5 logo on their direct trailers out of no where. They'd be liable for aiding in mass suicide

No, it wouldn't. During year's direct, Microsoft showed off Minecraft Legends and never mentioned PlayStation even though it was one of the platforms for the game.

I don’t know why PC gamers here have been coming to Xbox’s defense.

PC is not a console.

Most of the people here are discussing console to console. Once that specific chain is broken, it’s a big deal.

That’s what I’m keeping my eye on, because I’m trying to get a hard confirmation if the Series X will be the final time I buy an Xbox console.

I’m kind of in the same boat as far as wondering if series X is my last Xbox. That custom small form
Factor PC with a pretty ASUS case is looking more likely. Will keep my series X ( or a pro version if they make one) for my backlog/ library. I’d like a machine that lets me Have Xbox and steam in the same box. It’s not a console anymore at that point but I think as long as it has a console form factor and sits nearly under the TV maybe that’s where it’s at for me ( and probably Xbox gamers in general) in a few years.

That or we all buy PlayStations and tell MS “ hey when we all play every where we all win” as they keep saying. maybe Sony are supposed to be the ‘ high performance’ console and Nintendo keeps doing their own thing so there is no over lap and everybody else plays on some form of PC? I think that’s the ideal situation To most gaffers and from the sound of things it will all probably play out that way. The console war is over. Sony won. The PS6 may go uncontested. And maybe by then gamepass is a service on PlayStation. By then MS won’t even have to put third party games in gamepass. No need to when those games will already be on PlayStation. It will just be a service with MS/Xbox published games on it, like ea play or ubi plus. I just hope they keep making controllers and those are compatable with other consoles too. They may aswell just move this all along if this is what they are doing.

As for PC gamers ‘coming to Xbox Defence’ I don’t see that. Not on the gaf. I see a lot of PC - centric gamers on here, who are happy they can play Xbox games on PC, as well as PlayStation games are are usually happy to just run it everybody else’s faces that they can play both and luagh at the ‘ console warring’. It’s always been the way.

Most people here want Xbox to disappear.

Its more hilarious if you can Imagine losing in hardware sales to a company only putting out remasters...damn says alot what the general public thinks of your product
Who cares about hardware sales in they bring in more revenue than Sony. You think Sony would be happy outselling Microsoft almost 3:1 hardware and yet Microsoft still bringing in more gaming revenue than them? With activision Microsoft now has over 200 million monthly active users. Hardware doesn’t make any real money for both companies that’s just a fanboy talking point. Sony business model dictates they sell hardware so they can sell their software because of how they want to sell their software. Microsoft has figured a different way with subscription to do the same. They’re making more money than ever they just had their biggest quarter ever. Over time when ABK catalog drops into the service will be the big test. Come this holiday when the new cod comes out and Sony consumers have to fork over 70 dollars or join game pass will be where the real test for these models begin. If I’m Microsoft I’ll do this regardless for all games have the Sony guys buy it for 70 while it’s on gamepass that’s a starker contrast. Sony won’t allow this cause it will Trojan horse Microsoft strategy and enable Microsoft to make infinitely more money than them.

not really man. they made the same amount in revenue they made last year + 2 billion from Activision/Blizzard. I think you're misreading what's happening. MS gaming has been flat except for this recent acquisition

They literally don't.

Even after combining XGS + Zenimax Bethesda + Activision + Blizzard + King revenue, their revenue was still less than PlayStation's revenue as per their latest financial earnings report.

My only gripe is when the question of 'is Xbox going 3rd party' comes up, someone always comes into these threads saying 'lol Xbox is already third party look at PC ...and they're doing great' in a coy manner knowing very well that's not what we are discussing and that's not why this thread was made.

This isn't me bringing it up because of console warring, but me bringing it up because it derails these threads into a separate conversation about Xbox sales figures and profits from PC when that isn't really news, it's just running defense.

I largely agree with the rest of your post though.

As a PC gamer I have nothing to prove (and I own most of MS games on steam), but Hi-Fi Rush, Forza series and even Starfield will benefit tremendously from the DualSense support.

Duelsense has done nothing for me at all outside of astro bot and returnal. I think it doesn't really bring anything to games and I only use an 8 bit do ultimate on pc. Amazing controller

The only space where Sony and Microsoft are competitors is with consoles. As long as Sony has the marketshare with PlayStation over Xbox, I wouldn't imagine Sony cares how much revenue Microsoft brings in with gaming. Even if they did, what do you mean Sony wouldn't "allow this"? Wouldn't allow COD on PS while MS has it on Game Pass? That doesn't make any sense.

I certainly do not want Xbox to disappear. Or more specifically, I do not want Sony to not have competition in the console space. But right now, I think a lot of folks think Xbox is just useless as a console. It is a fine system, but there is really nothing compelling about it. I think it would be good for all around if some other company threw their hat into the race, but I'm just not sure who that would be.

Yeah for me it was a massive disappointment after all the hype. It does have one key feature though - it's great for Switch emulation.

Timdog actually is letting the cat out the bag here and is telling the world how MS works with these processed "leaks".

HeisenbergFX4 HeisenbergFX4 has told us that they do this, but Timdog is basically confirming it here due to his own personal experience.

Whatever happens, Timdog is not wrong in saying that this has been handled poorly. I've been saying for a while that Phil Spencer could have silenced all this talk easily with a tweet or an interview, which he loves doing......until recently. Instead news about this has been drip fed to the various "insiders". If Microsoft is really doing this then they need to man up and just rip off the bandaid. If Microsoft isn’t doing this then why are allowing all this talk to fester? Makes no sense.

They are trying to soften the blow like this to the hardcore fanboys. Imagine if one day we woke up to Hi-Fi Rush, Grounded, or Sea of Thieves PS5 and Switch announcement trailers without any prior indication. Imagine the bloodbath.

Now they have come up with a couple of spins, e.g., "this is only AA games" or "GaaS games would make sense" or "Xbox will earn more money from PS and Switch to fund AAA exclusives and Game Pass for Xbox users" etc. etc.

Having said all this, I do agree that this strategy by Xbox of leaking information to prepare the ground is doing more harm than good. Not that they had much of it, but they are losing trust at a rapid pace.

Tim Stuart's interview was the right move. Instead of that bullshit counterargument that "we have no plans of putting Game Pass on PS", Phil should have doubled down on what Tim said, and that'd have been it.

Mckmaster uses MasterCard to buy Slave drives
~25 million*

But that userbase could have been enough if (1) Xbox games were not launching on Game Pass, (2) Xbox games were not launching on PC, (3) Xbox gamers were still buying games, and (4) Xbox had not inflated its operating costs exponentially by acquiring all these companies so aggressively.

So, essentially, what PlayStation has been doing.

Take a look at Final Fantasy 16. It launched with a ~25 million PS5 userbase? And it turned out to be a successful game, selling more than 3 million copies in its first week, earning a revenue of more than $200 million.

Xbox doesn't have that luxury anymore, so that 25 million userbase that doesn't buy games yield them negative ROI. Microsoft had it enough, hence this shift in strategy. They're done building the userbase. Now they want profits.

I thought the PS5 was at 40 million sold when FF16 released....

Tim is talking nonsense here:

I really like the interaction MS has with its fans and community. I like seeing them respond on Twitter and respond to fan comments on the Xbox YouTube channel. Having Parris Lilly host an official event was awesome. It's almost like the company is run by real people who care about their fans and the games they make. I hope they continue to do things with their fans.

Microsoft have the best interaction with their fans. Real people for real fans. The best fans.

In putting their games on other consoles they effectively kill off any need whatsoever to buy an xbox. Putting their games on PC already diminsished the value of the brand and the console in the eyes of many. This would just be a step to far and their ultimate undoing as far as xbox as the console.

they put the message out their they you don’t need an xbox to play Xbox games. So people are not buying Xbox’s.

And forget about another company throwing their hat in the ring. Not gonna happen in this day and age. Not in this climate, with where things are going as far as an all digital future, subs and game and games via steaming.

Google would rather you play on their phones. Amazon have their own methods of game distribution that don’t need a console….. apple won’t fill in the blank either, because they have their own ideas about how they want to deliver games to their end users and none of them involve a console.

So I see a two tier structure playing out. Sony is the high performance choice for both AAA games with top tier graphics…. Nintendo does what Nintendo….. does

Xbox gamers will either become Playstation gamers or join the PC crowd as long they don’t mind carefully plopping a CPU into a motherboard. And lemme just say to them…. First time is always the worst time! Get those ground straps and the mini screwdriver sets out, lads! You might even appreciate alll the cool parts like liquid cooling blocks, the LED fans….. I know I do…. Should see how the G.skill trident royals look in my X299 build with the ASUS AIO cooler with the LED screen… pimpin! . If Xbox lets my build m own console I’m all for it, if that ever happens.

In fact…. Let’s inspire the Xbox guys a lil About a PC centric future for them! Ain’t gotta be all doom and gloom just because Xbox is in the cusp of bowing out.!

Are you daft!? Lmao Minecraft has been on everything since Microsoft acquired them and every update has been everywhere same with eso and fallout 76. They specifically changed Indiana jones to just Xbox and canned the ps5 version according to the court documents. Using Minecraft is just facetious. They also could have let Sony put those games in their most recent direct or the press release after the direct. Stop reaching .

Lmao why would Sony allow Gamepass when they have all the bargaining chips?

There’s about a 0% chance Sony would agree to having a Gamepass version on their platform as things stand right now. Even should MS abandon hardware and go full 3p, I still think there’d be a near 0% chance of GP appearing on PS or Nintendo.

Learn to read. Obviously contractually Microsoft is obligated to put cod on Sony until after the 10 years. These deals were only for CoD. Microsoft can do what it wants with its other IPs it would have made sense to sign the whole lot if that was their idea obviously Jim Ryan wanted this and Phil laughed him out the room. This is not happening this is just port begging at this point . There’s nothing new here Microsoft choose to port over some game is not them going third party or putting every game on Sonys platform. Sony won’t allow gamepass on PlayStation cause Microsoft would undermine them financially.

It was a specific clause from Notch, my dude. Minecraft stays everywhere or the deal won't happening.

Same goes with F76 and ESO, they were on PS before Microsoft and taking them down, losing playercount in the process was just dumb.

They won’t. Their survival depends on them not competing so directly with Sony, in that kind of AAA space. Nintendo are not suddenly gonna build a high powered machine to re- enter the graphics arms race they left back in the GC era. I dont see Nintendo ever putting out hardware that perform on par with a PlayStation of the same generation. Even switch 2 won’t have PS5/ series X levels of capability, that’s a given with Nintendo.

Only opportunities Nintendo likes is the ones where they are in their own Lane.

I would honestly be very shocked if they abandoned hardware. The most likely scenario, I think m, is late ports of titles to other systems, and then doubling down on Gamepass for their own branded hardware. “Play it now on Gamepass, or wait 1-2 years to play it elsewhere.”

In its current form yes. But strip away the third party stuff and isolate it GP on PS and switch to just MS published games and there’s no reason Sony or Nintendo would say no. Maybe when MS buys even more devs they will be more interested in accepting gamepass on their consoles.

I sure hope so. At least enough to get a sense of their direction.

I used to think they needed at least one more console generation to help solidify their Game Pass strategy but I am starting to think another console is going to bring more negative news (losing in markets) than it is going to help. I have also seen the "handheld" rumors. While I would love to have a portable Xbox, I think the time has passed. I think they would be better off partnering with someone to do an Xbox branded handheld or just making sure Game Pass is available and font and center on those that are already hitting the market.

Look at it this way, if Xbox is no longer competition for Sony, then we REALLY NEED Nintendo. Playstation without a competitor would be a disaster, so that would leave only Nintendo to compete with them.

So the OEM route like rumoured? Or are all of the hardware by MS?

I think the OEM route would be a mistake and would open the door to some unintended consequences MS may not want. They’d be smart to keep the hardware to themselves
