Oh so now having a big technological leap matters when going next gen?

Nice one Sarah, at least we can agree on one thing.

What fake news?

The rumor was exactly this: Xbox bringing their exclusive games to PlayStation and Nintendo. Phil just confirmed that they indeed are. 4 games in the first batch that will be announced soon.

Really? That was the only rumor/narrative being pushed this past week here on GAF? I could’ve sworn I’d be playing Halo and Indiana Jones and Starfield on my PlayStation soon. I’m certain Xbox was leaving the hardware industry completely and going third party according to the reports and threads I read on here. What happened?!

What do you mean? this basically confirms that everything is on the table, MS always does this. They could change their mind and bring Tomb Raider to PS within 6 months after launch. Don't trust them for what they say now when their releases continue to struggle and GP doesn't grow.

34MM subs is super disappointing and the console isn't selling, they will do anything to make more money
didn't say Microsoft did or did not do shit, just saying people tend to easly believe rumors coming from a random people so easly

Watched it all. Quite weird really. Phil especially seemed nervous, I think the reaction over the last week had them spooked.

Lots of PR lines in there. The repeated mentions of creating a healthy platform for developers seemed a bit sus, I wonder if they’ve been getting some negative feedback from devs/pubs.

If you believe it’s going to be just four games then you are very gullible.

If the goal is more people playing games and more people discovering them, why just these four games and not more? You say you want to learn from these, but surely if they’re hugely successful and you see that more people are playing them, then you’ll do more in the future, right?

Yeah, but we haven’t seen that yet. We’re obviously one of the biggest publishers on PlayStation and Nintendo today, when you think about the Activision Blizzard and Bethesda lineup of games. So we know what it means to ship games on Steam, PlayStation, Nintendo, and Xbox.

These are games that originally launched on Xbox. They were Xbox-branded games and we want to see what happens, because going and doing the development work to bring them to new platforms is real work. We want to make sure that the return makes sense. We want to make sure the audience that’s there has an appetite — maybe they don’t.

We’ll also watch what happens on Xbox as well. Our goal would be that the communities of those games grow, they grow and they thrive, but we’ll see. We’ll see what happens when we take games that launched originally on Xbox and PC and bring them over to other consoles, other closed platforms. We don’t know.

We’ve done it a couple times. Obviously, Ori went over to the Switch after we had launched. We’ve launched Psychonauts 2 on both platforms and launched Minecraft Dungeons and Minecraft Legends on both platforms simultaneously. So we have some data about what happens there. We just want to make sure it’s good for the long-term health of Xbox.

You mentioned that Starfield and Indiana Jones aren’t part of the four despite rumors, but will those ever come to PS5? Can you rule that out?

I don’t think we should as an industry ever rule out a game going to any other platform. We’re focused on these four games and learning from the experience.

But I don’t want to create a false expectation on those other platforms that this is somehow the first four to get over the dam and then the dam’s going to open and that everything else is coming, that’s not the plan today. I also don’t want to mislead customers on those other platforms. We’re launching these four games, and we’re excited about it. We’re excited about the announce and everything else, but we’ll see what happens for our business.
Yeah, everything is being ported lol I dont know how people can hear that and think Starfield is still going to be exclusive

3 corporate stooges running a game company that was double speak galore they went from the industry isn't growing to we are seeing so much growth smh complete waste of time.

What because you couldn't play Minecraft already?
The irony. Minecraft was multiplat from the beginning. Now it is presumably games that were developed by XGS in house, even if only 4. The slope is already slippery. Xbox is showing that they are moving in one direction with this move.

Sounds like they are just trying to contain the fire, reduce it to a mild smolder. Backdraft is a bitch though...don't open a window.

The amount of time they spent talking about how they should give people more ways of playing their games, I think it's safe to say this is just the tip of the iceberg in terms of xbox games coming to PlayStation. It honestly sounds like xbox is struggling and they've been forced to start publishing on other platforms

I made it green for the googobblers to see it.
He made sure to give himself plenty of wiggle room when/if they decide to move those games across based on what they 'learn from this experience'.

Full-on damage-control.

So, they're starting with 4 games, but there will be more in the future.
Consoles "don't matter", "everybody plays, we all win".

They are not confident at all. I was actually surprised they name-dropped Playstation and Nintendo.

Yeah, smartest thing to do if you want Xbox games on console, is just buy a Playstation or Nintendo.
The big games will be coming eventually, after at least a year, on case-by-case basis, to support the developers.

I still feel like Halo infinate is going multiplat. The game needs more players. It was clear they are noticing a slow down on current systems and want to see if multiplat will up player numbers. Only makes sense given how much they are asking for with it's microtransactions.

I'm also hyped for Diablo 4 on Gamepass. so I don't need to buy the game again to play it while chilling on the sofa now.

Because they don’t wanna take those announcements from the teams of course! Even though absolutely nobody would be excited by said announcements, even though HiFi is pretty fuckin sick.
Man speak for yourself I am excited for SoT, Hi Fi Rush and Grounded on Switch. 3 of select few good Xbox games in the last 10 years to be honest.

Sound like "Case by case". So nothing new.

Disappointing. So 4 games for now and for the rest "don't want to rule anything out but we'll see". Add to that the ultra-super-duper next-gen hardware, this podcast was really about the Xbox enthusiasts and telling them "Please keep buying shit in our ecosystem"
