Fallout - Series Reviews

So I'm about 5 eps in now and it does get better, I still say like halo it's best to just divorce yourself from the source material. It's the boys but video games instead of superheroes.

I will say it's a little more reserved than the boys, the characters do become a bit more deeper than, joke violence joke joke. But not much 🤣

Overall I'd rate what I've seen like a 6 out of 10. Will see how the show ends, maybe it pulls something great off but to me this and twisted metal are kind of the same, in terms of a tv adaptation. It's definitely not halo bad I can say that for sure

See, the value of The Boys is that it can riff off well established superhero tropes for an easy "OH NO YOU DIDN'T!" type moment again and again, though as the seasons go on that wears thin. And the superhero language is so well known, you don't really need to explain why there is a "League of Seven" or why these idiots fight crime instead of build giant bridges or whatever. But Fallout (or Twisted Metal) don't really have that luxury, really, so they have to be more creative with the satire/dark humor and balance them with the easter eggs. There needs to be more attention paid to worldbuilding and internal consistency (IMHO, I know I am a stickler for that) because the audience is far less educated on the source material.

I had high hopes and 0 expectations. Overall I think it's good, not great. Episode 2 and 3 were by far the weakest and almost had me quit watching entirely. After that it seemed to get progressively better. The Fallout universe benefits the most from picturesque locations, charismatic characters and great props. The CGI bear vs Knight for example looked goofy AF and almost drew me out completely.

This might actually be the most 'fun' video game adaptation so far. TLOU was incredible but definitely a one and done for me. But I could see myself re-watching Fallout down the line.

The halo show is a complete travesty from almost every aspect of film making. whether or not you're familiar with the source material. i just realised that season 2 came out not too long ago and i've heard absolutely nothing about it. i wonder why. i've pulled through dozens of objectively mediocre shows but halo still takes the cake.

im not like captain halo...

but i have played an enjoyed basically every mainline FPS title and the show really is a travesty, but really because of how interesting the source material is and what you could work from and somehow we have ended up with weird mutated halo:reach where all the main characters (especially season 2) are the mistress chief.

as a generic sci-fi show it's fine, but yeah they don't do halo justice at all... which makes it worse than fallout for me because i feel it does have an easier road to adaptation that fallout did with it being a linear story with a main cast of characters.

i mean if you haven't seen season 2 yet either prepare yourself or just don't watch it hahaha. they even bork the flood introduction.

yes! the biggest surprise for me. figured they'd just ditch the vault when the main character left. very happy that I was completely wrong...
Vaults > Past > Wasteland

Imo

Vaults and past are somewhat connected, but still.

That stuff is the real meat of the show.

Which like you said, is pleasantly surprising.

Easily. It's actually really great.

Vaults - is like a 9/10
Wasteland - is like a 6/10

For me Ghoul and Dogmeat was fantastic

Even though I thought the show was good the wasteland parts were the weakest. The Two mains Lucy and Thaddeus (I think that his name) are boring. I don't hate them but Ghoul and Dogmeat were the best parts when it came to characters

I really liked how they went into the lore whenever the show went into the vaults

The show is good but has its faults

I felt the urge to explain myself 'cause I like NV story. Its a really well written game.

But the Mojave desert sucks, and it sucks so much, imo. Its just so, so boring. They clearly didnt have the budget or time to come up with a better setting and it shows.

Atmosphere is huge for me in a Bethesda game (Obsidian, I know, but I meant the template). If the setting sucks, than the game just sucks for me. I wanted to love NV, and theres much to love there, but the setting kills it for me.

Not the case with F4 tho. I have tons of other problems with that game.

The desert is the main character. It effects everything in the game. I loved that map. Stumbling into the quarry on accident the first time I played, running from cazadors, the long empty walks. They did a great job providing moments that felt like I was in a remote, desolate area without making the entire game like that. Really one of the best open world maps I've ever played, if not the best.

One thing I think makes this show incredible (currently watching with gf who has mever played a fallout game)

Is that the Vaults feel like the Whitewalkers in game of thrones in a way, every episode has you questioning whats happening in Vault 33, 32 or 31 or whats the true purpose of Vault 4, they made sure Vaults were still a huge part of the mystery with the show and not just a “we shown a vault now its BAU”, handles multiple storylines well.

Got few more episodes to go but loving it

Finally finished watching the season. It's pretty good overall but I don't think it's amazing. Lots to criticize and/or nitpick as a Fallout fan (they really NEVER encountered a group of raiders on the road? Just two cannibals? Absolutely impossible in the wasteland) and for newcomers (aspects of the world are often very poorly explained). I also found the tone to be very uneven. Sometimes it veers into pure comedy, sometimes it's a super serious drama, and sometimes it's somewhere in between (which is what Fallout should be).

Gotta give props (pun intended) to the set and costume designers, though. They made the world of Fallout look and feel real.

But yeah, like I said, it's still pretty good and it's awesome to see Fallout in live action, but as far as videogame shows go, I think Twisted Metal was a more fun (and emotional, surprisingly) first season.

Thad was the guy beating on Max, turned squire, turned ghoul

Yo, I died when the moron sheriff deputy told Coop, "My dad lives in Filly!"

And he replied, "Not no more he don't."

Finished it.

Was really great. I'd say better than TLOU, but that's mostly because that show was on rails.

They can literally do anything with FO and that's exciting. As long as they stick to the lore, it's fine, but so far the liberties they've taken change nothing.

Coop, the vaults and the past sequences were the best parts, unsurprisingly.

Lucy is hot.

One thing I liked about the way the show handles her, is that over the course of the season she became hardened and more adept, almost like she was a player that had little experience and then leveled up throughout.

Honestly, outside Mario this is the best videogame adaptation yet.

I'm not sure about the character's pronouns but there is a female trans actress portraying a male soldier in the show. I noticed the character having female-like facial features and a female-like voice first. Then I wondered why that character was so skinny while being supposedly a soldier in a physically demanding role and decided to check the person on the internet. Yes, the person is trans.

I thought she had cancer or something until googling it

Literally went on Socials to find NV fanboys going absolutely feral 😂
Putting my question is spoilers just incase but it should not be a spoiler for you.

I'm assuming this has something to do with the ncr bit and the 2 wearing the ranger armor. Were they just pissed they put that in or was there another reason?

Haven't ever played the games, but liking the show so far. On episode 4 now.

I'm just wondering, is the character Maximus supposed to be slightly retarded or something? He seems so off and just stares blankly when people talk to him. He seems so unemotional.

Binging through the show and really enjoying it. Easily beats TLOU.

There are annoying woke bits in it but its fine when the overall thing is pretty good and entertaining.

I thought he was just dumb/retarded, but he also has his moments like against the cannibals. He was irritable a lot of times! But he could've been a much better character.

Watched the 1st episode. Guess they are seeing up maximus to have a character arc but so far he just seems like a flawed whiny bitch.

And that cousin line at the beginning... I was like so they mean cousin fucking??? And then 20 minutes later it's confirmed. It's such a practical conversation that fit perfectly in the vault society.

I think he's supposed to be emotionally stunted, like a child trapped in an adult body.

I found myself the short man vault dweller to be the most consistently written character in the story. Most of the other characters could have used some more work to be more cohesive and interesting.

I just finished the whole series and it has the same problems that every game adaptation has. The script was written by someone who never played the original games, has absolutely no idea what made the games good, what their strengths were. They may have played the Bethesda games, but not much.

The whole series is all over the place, mostly because it has multiple storylines running parallel, and maybe 1 or 2 of them are enjoyable. The Vault Life parts are abysmal, full of uninteresting people and events, with lots of filler just to make an episode an hour long. The Brotherhood of Steel is a joke, with its half-assed paper armour and weapons that never hit anyone. They move funny, they look funny, they feel funny. The physics, the way they move and handle themselves is terrible.

The rest is watchable, but riddled with stylistic problems. Funny slides into serious, harsh into benevolent etc. and the result feels as if the creators couldn't decide when to do what, as if they were arguing about who should steer the boat and ended up capsizing the whole damn thing.

The protagonist is good, just like Walton Goggins. The overall aesthetics of the movie are well done, but it's nothing more than a let's milk the fans kinda money squeeze.

It's really good. Not great, but I guess it's mostly because of budget since the biggest flaws are on the production stuff

Halo show should took some tips on it

Fallout 76 base game free for Xbox and PC on Amazon Prime right now. I may never play it but i snagged the Xbox version just now. It's on Game Pass too but this is redeem to own...

I finished watching it after I binged the last couple of days. I like it a lot. It's not perfect but for a video game adaptation it was more than I hoped for. Sets were good. CGI was decent until the last episode. The last 10-15 minutes where they de-age Kyle MacLachlan were really bad.

MILD SPOILERS AHEAD!

It makes sense once you get his backstory. Surviving the Shady Sands bomb, raised/indoctrinated by the Brotherhood of Steel but still young. I mean he doesn't know what sex is for instance (which i found hard to believe but whatever). His character is sort of the flip side of Lucy who is naive in all the ways Maximus is not and vice versa.

What! The Brotherhood member was masturbating in the bed near him. Pretty sure he knows what sex was. But maybe not actual sex since he was afraid of having an erection and he literally described seeing BoS members erections! 😂

I just think he’s badly written, Maximus seems to bumbling luck into things. Luck into being squire to lucking into getting the armor… bandit fight…and so on…

Watched the first episode - yeah, a bit shit. I’ll try one more just to be sure.

Maybe wasn’t wise to watch it straight after Oppenheimer. Maybe too much of a switch in tone 😂

I haven't played any of the Fallout games, so I have no idea how closely the series hews to the lore and all. On the whole, though, I was not particularly impressed.

Walton Goggins was the highlight of the show, not surprisingly, and the slow revelation of the truth behind the vaults was done pretty well. The entire subplot involving the Brotherhood of Steel, on the other hand, felt completely pointless, with the inept leading character getting propelled forward through woeful writing (twice Maximus is seconds from getting executed for his disloyalty when the Elder has a contrived change of heart and ends up promoting him) and the artifact they so fervently seek turning out to be a MacGuffin with barely any time given to explaining its significance by the conclusion. Throw in some subtle agenda-pushing and by the end I was wishing I had spent my time elsewhere.

Hopefully it landed better for fans of the games.

I really like the Vault storyline.

And I really, really like that it’s a skit on stupid liberals.

Yeah it's refreshing when one of the guys who looks like a cuck even suggested a non cuck thing to the council and ended up doing it anyways. Trying to be as non spoiler as possible since I'm too lazy to use spoiler tags lol

That was refreshing and surprising to see that come from that type of person and especially from this show in current year Hollywood

I had two distinct issues with the show regarding certain stuff but that's mostly in Episode 1.

Despite that the show ended up surprising me and ended up good
