Doesn't seem like it's gonna get any better when they eventually switch over to 3DS.

Time to innovate the series, Nintendo.

Look at the number above it, and remember it's just an upgraded version.

Well, it sold pretty well for being pretty much the same game as Diamond and Pearl.

It was an enhanced remake of D/P? Not much incentive for most casual Pokemon fans to pick it up. I'm surprised it sold that much.

Sales of one game vs two games.

I think that's the surprise. At least it surprised me. Was not expecting it to do that well.

Minor(ish) updates never sell as much as the first release. "Diamond and Pearl 1.1" is no exception, even if it's better in every way that counts.

EDIT: Beaten by a curiously high number of people up at this hour...

I assume you're joking, but D/P had two years of breathing room before Platinum came out. These totals end right when B/W came out in the States. Personally I wonder if B/W have already surpassed D/P at this point.

What decline?

Soulsilver and heartgold are remakes, probably the reason why they didn't do as well.
Black and white already at same sales as those 2, and that's up till march 2011.
They only released in the west in that same month. So chances are it already sold millions more since.

How many people buy both versions of the same game?

I bought Pearl and Platinum if that counts. :p

If I had more disposable income I probably would pick up both games. Much better for unlocking all the content.

I just ordered White the other day and I've bought one game from every mainline Pokemon release.

They're still fun, but my least favorite thus far has been Diamond/Pearl release.

These numbers are up to March 2011.

B&W were released on September 18, 2010.

D&P were released on September 28, 2006

So one is four years of sales, one is 6 months of sales.

Also, 6 months of just Japanese sales.

Sinnoh > Johto confirmed.

We'll see how D/P sell as remakes. :p

But I do agree. Sinnoh is the best region still. <3

There's no real announcement attached to this? We're still supposed to have one more big one coming, relating to both DS and 3DS, presumably the inevitable third Gen V game with added 3DS features.

how did this happen?

Thats fucking great :]

Love B&W, they deserve the love. There are short coming but they're not that bad.

Can't wait to see what they do next.

To those who misinterpret the numbers:

Diamond and Pearl released back in 2006. These are sales from back then, up until March 2011.

Pokemon Platinum didn't do as well because it is a third remake of Diamond and Pearl, with upgrades, but surprising still because it did so well for a third version.

Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver are remakes of the original Gold and Silver versions.

The number for Pokemon Black and White only accounts for six months of Japanese sales, and I guess less than a month of U.S. sales.

It's true, though. Johto suffers from the fact that it had to share cartridge space with Kanto, leaving both regions in the Gen 2 games kinda small and empty. Sinnoh, on the other hand, is great to explore and packed with stuff to do.

The fact that it also features the best Champion doesn't hurt, either.

Also, that terrible leveling curve. :|

I'm still hoping the first mainline 3DS game wouldn't be just a third version of Black and White. I'm one of those people who never buy the upgrades. I always get one version day one and have felt it's enough for me.

Spin off variety, however, I could take! Too bad we're still waiting for the possibility to battle Black and White pokemon on the Wii. For Scramble there isn't a confirmed release date for the EU. Not to even mention the absence of the typing game. Just take my money already.

oh good i thought black/white didn't do as well as diamond/pearl even tough they are vastly superior.

now i want to see updated B&W sales.

the DS being on its last legs is going to hurt BW a bit in the long run. it won't have 4 years to sell like DP.

Smart people wait and buy only the 3rd versions.

Well, except for the remakes since those don't get 3rd versions. Shame that.

Not everyone lives in the same country - you know that, right?

Anyway. I'm shocked about the game too, 7mil is quite high for it. Nintendo really need to bring in some change in the series though.

B/W numbers are pretty big, I wonder how much they would sell overall some years from now. I can see them surpassing D/P
