I haven't tried the demo for this one yet...but, I really don't know about the visuals this time around. What's with the ugly bloom? Anno 1404 is looking a fair bit better to me.

I think I managed to at least partly disable the insane bloom when I was trying the demo, it's been about a week since I played it so I can't remember the name, but there was a setting which I put to low that seemed to make everything more clear.

Vied for a tag related to cocks, so here it is.
Probably won't be picking up Day 1 due to other games, but I will have it by the end of the year. Love the Anno games and this one looks amazing.

He's a pretty swell guy in my books anyway.
I wish they'd put it on Steam as well but it looks so cool I think I'll get it regardless.

First Anno I will skip. Played the demo and I felt stupid. There's even fewer challenge than in 1404 and 1701. The series continues to become shallow imho :(

I'm jealous, my copy hasn't even shipped yet :(. So won't be here until next week at the earliest.

Really? Crap, oh well, living with it. Anno is WAY more expensive on Steam right now thanks to them just changing the $ to a €.

Hey Kabouter, how will you have the time to be a mod AND play Anno 2070?

Kabouter? Kabouter?

Can you hear me Kabouter?

Yeah, he is gone....

Bought it on Steam because I wanted to play it now and decided I will sell/return my retail copy...

except I get a 'game is unavailable' error when I try to play, seems everyone is despite the game being released. Great job Ubi

Well, not having a copy of the game certainly doesn't help with the 'playing Anno 2070' part :p. More time for European and International Tax Law B I suppose.

That a JoWood production, Kab? :D
Haha, no, it isn't quite that accessible :p. It's also considerably more expensive than a JoWood game would ever be. Tons of hours worth of stuff to do though!

At least we know you're not in Neighbours From Hell territory.

Such a shameful guilty pleasure of mine, I seriously do not know why!

The Steam version, and presumably all other versions, is protected with Solidshield Tages SAS and limited to 3 activations. If you use these up you will have to contact Ubisoft support to request more. I'm starting to regret buying this day one.

If you want to request a refund for the non-working Steam version, you can do so here.

Yeah but it's never as bad as people make it out to be. I've had plenty of games with the same restrictions and i've installed them more than the listed number of installs. Most of the time it's just that they limit the number of installs within a certain amount of time. Or that when you properly uninstall the game it adds that install back to the number you're allowed.

I don't like the DRM either, but people tend to exaggerate, or don't know all the details before assuming that once you reach the limit you can't play the game anymore.

I've never actually run into a problem with it.

DRM Activation Limits that don't replenish overtime, are the same as renting a game.

maybe i can ask this here:

after watching a few gameplay videos (gonna try the demo this weekend), will this game scratch my simcity itch?

i loved simcity and simcity2k back in the old days. i love base building in RTS games - i remember trying to build cool bases in Supreme Commander. will Anno 2070 give me the thrill of creating a well oiled city machine?

Is the bonus content in the collector's edition high-quality?

The art-book isn't hard-cover but is surprisingly detailed & has many many pages, high quality all round for that. There's 2 CD's in cardboard sleeves for the soundtracks, lotsa tracks on each, haven't listened to them but the music in-game is stellar. Tech Tree poster is pretty cool, all useful info is in-game but its handy all the same. Aside from that, you get the standard retail game... & that's it, no making-of, no in-game bonus ships or anything (as far as I can tell)... the box the CE comes in is really nice tho. Always wanted the Anno 1404 CE but never got it, which was my main reason for buying this CE. Honestly could have lived without this edition ($108aud from EBgames) & gone with the deluxe steam version ($54aud), but after the patch fiasco with Anno 1404 on Steam & all the issues ppl have been having with activation I'm glad I stuck with retail.

Aside from that, been playing the campaign a bit, now onto the first scenario trying to achieve 2,500 executives - I've played a lot of anno, this is easily the best yet & is typical mind boggling, at least initially. Now I'm waiting for a production calculator & some good farm layouts.

yes and no. There's less micro-management than SimCity, but the trading-part of the game more than makes up for it.

The Steam version refuses to launch. Poking around in the installation folder, it appears to me that the game is still encrypted like a preload would be. Very strange considering that it is showing up as available and ready to play all over the world. A lot of people on the Steam forums are confused and upset about this.

Yup I requested a refund as I wanted to play it when it said it was released many hours ago now.

I had no idea this came out until I saw it on Steam today. I'm still deep into Skyrim, so I won't buy it yet, but I look forward to seeing some impressions!

I got scared of the steam nonsense, plus the annoyance of steam and 1404 support in the past, so I bought it retail. Anyone know what this huge patch is all about?

Any opinions yet? I see there are a few reviews out, but none in english.

I've not played much yet, just completed chapter 1 of the campaign but I've been having fun. I would say if you like Anno games, then this is much the same and you'll enjoy it. The futuristic element was a bit of a downside to me honestly, but playing it, I've actually realised why they needed to move the setting to something different. It feels like Anno, but it feels fresh. Probably the most immediate negative I've felt so far is that it has lost a little bit of it's charm with the future setting, but that's possibly a personal thing.

The faction element, which I saw got ripped apart in a review of the demo, actually seems pretty cool and I'm hoping it's going to get more interesting and diverse as the campaign starts to open up. The meta-game vote system thing looks like it could also be pretty cool, but I've not really dug about too much into that to see what it's all about so much.

It runs nicely, no ctd or bugs yet. I didn't think the demo performance was all that, but retail seems to run better on my system at least. I have everything on highest settings and it's consistently at 60fps, with a few minor dips here and there (2500k@4.4ghz, 560ti).

From what little I've played, I would say it's got a lot of promise. If it stays the same as it is now throughout the whole game, I'd still recommend it to Anno fans. The campaign is structured as a drawn out tutorial like the older games, so I'm still getting handheld with very little open to me, but I'm hoping the factions get more interesting and the underwater elements are used well, which could give the old Anno formula a nice new layer of complexity and it could help to turn into something really special.

Cool, thanks. I'm a nightmare for efficiency, kind of like figuring it out, but on the other hand I can't wait for a resource calculator to come out like this , so I can stop stressing out and getting all OCD lol.

From playing the first couple of hours, it feels like Anno 1404 with a futuristic skin. This isn't necessarily a bad thing because 1404 was a pretty great game. The factions and whatever other new gameplay systems will be introduced later on I guess. It looks pretty great and the familiarity is actually quite nice. I will say one thing though... the music in this game isn't as good as the music in 1404 in my opinion.
