Batman Arkham City |OT| Smashin' Faces, Glidin' Places

Don't worry, I'll vouch for them.
Side missions make the game though, from the larger ones to the small happenings and riddler trophies. As to riddler trophies, how do you do the pressure switch ones? Do you have to weigh them down, or is it a certain order? I cant seem to figure it out.

For the multiple pressure plate ones you have to hit each plate linked to the riddler cage without touching anything else. So all you do is touch each pressure plates in any order to open the cage. Does that make sense?

The challenges in this game are bullshit. I selected the hard difficulty, and it turns out that difficulty carries over to the challenges and is not exclusive to the story mode. If you're playing challenges in the hard difficulty, you are limited to one smoke pellet per session. On normal difficulty, you can use an unlimited amount of smoke pellets per session.

That's a disappointment. If I want to 1250 this game it'll have to be with a new normal file, probably.

So you mean not touch the ground? As in glide from one to another? Can you grapple to get airborne?

No, I'm certain you have only one in Normal too.

Im in the museum doing catwomans last mission and there seems to be no other way to go except across the warter? How do you get across?

When you enter the room with the water, walk to the edge and ledge crawl, you will then see an option to ceiling crawl.

I Know you can continue doing the riddler puzzles with new game+ But are his goons still there to tell you the locations of his riddles? Some of them are really hard to find.

Theres one in the steel warehouse about putting something back together to make one. I looked everywhere.

Also, do you have to start new game+ to finish up side missions riddles, or can you continue from the last save? I beat the game but im still doing catwomans part.

Dont know about + but you just continue when beating the game. You have to still beat the catwoman part before you move onto the open part for both characters. Plus is a whole new option on the main menu, your present save will still work just the same and you can keep playing to do side stuff.

You can continue the side missions after the game is over, no need for New Game +, you will soon get to a part where you can switch between Batman/Catwoman at certain points around the map.

Just beat New Game +. Fights can be a real challenge without counters. And Freeze's fight was really awesome. Had to come up with all sorts of ways to take him down.

Well that makes me feel a lot better. I was thinking of re-starting my file on normal. I might as well just stick to this save file.
I can't find a source but I'm pretty sure difficulty only applies to the regular story mode. Challenges and NG+ are the same, regardless of difficulty.

I'm almost done with Catwoman's campaign challenges, then I'll move on to Nightwing. Anyone interested in 100%ing the game and the DLC stuff is in for a lot of time.

Rocksteady has created such an amazing game. Playing this makes me want to get into the batman universe more. But theres so many comics out there i don't know where to start. Anybody have any recommendations?

Is the complete animated series on DVD? I would definitely buy that.

TAS is the best thing ever.

Year One and Under the Red Hood are both good animated movies, just recently watched them too.

This is a great book if you really want to get into Batman.

http://www.amazon.com/Batman-Files-Matthew-Manning/dp/1449408222/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1321758330&sr=8-1

It's called The Batman Files, and it has a very great history of Batman in it. Great artwork and overall a really fun book to read about the villians of Batman and everything else you could want to know about him.

Not sure why it isn't for sale on Amazon right now, but it was about $55 when it was in stock.

Well I'm close to wrapping up AC. When the game first started and I was thrown into the city I wasn't really feeling it. I was overwhelmed by all the gliding, side quests, guys everywhere, and riddler trophies. But after a couple of hours with it It really all clicked and I love it. Great game, awesome use of the rogues gallery and I've now gotten all trophies, side quests, upgrades and main quest done. I keep go on these long 6 hour and longer gaming stretches with this game. I never do that anymore!!

I just have Catwoman's trophies left and the physical challenges. Man oh man I can not seem to be able to do the Arial Assault challenge! I can pull it off with Catwoman, but it won't count :/ I've watched various youtube vids and everything but can't get it to happen. Any tips would be appreciated.

Will give it a try. Thanks.

What about comics? Should i start with the killing joke? I use to read some batman comics when i was younger, but nothing since then. How is the continuity of the batman story going these days? Is there one continuing story, or is everything set at different times/places with different writers?

Grant Morrison's Arkham Asylum - A Serious House on Serious Earth (the first game was pretty much based on it)
Alan Moore's Killing Joke
Frank Miller's Batman: The Dark Knight Returns & Year One
Gotham Central (it concentrates on the police force of Gotham City)

If it's what I think it is, you just need to get into any fight with a decent number of goons, stun an enemy with your cape (circle or B) then double tap X or A whilst holding the direction of the enemy. As Batman is climbing up the enemy to knock him down, hold the direction of any other enemy and hit square or X.

I guess you already knew the basics, so in terms of tips... don't wait too long to start hitting square or X, as soon as batman starts the running up chest animation you should be good. Plus, I don't think there is a downside to repeatedly tapping it, so don't worry about timing.

I'm done with the Catwoman challenges, 1150/1250. Police Brutality Extreme can die in a crash, seriously. End of the Line Extreme has one awful medal too, the double ledge takedown one. But at least I only had to do it once since I kept the free medal bonus for it during the campaign challenges.

I've been playing the Nightwing challenges and as much as the regular predator challenges were a breeze, the extreme predator challenges seem pretty hard. At least from the two I've played.

Does anyone else have issues with AC not loading and freezing their 360?
It happens to me quite often, like 40% of the time. Maybe it has something to do with the "new" disc format?

Thanks. I went back to the game rested, and managed to squeak out 3 of those. I still can't do it on command but I got it, and now I have all trophies collected 440/440. I'll be taking a break from the game but plan on returning soon for some New Game+ and maybe the challenges. Though I sucked at those in AA.

Can someone help me with the Perfect Freeflow 2.0 achievement? It's the achievement where you have to do all of Batman's moves in one unbroken combo.

The guides I'm reading tell me you need to perform the following moves in one combo:

Strike (X)
Counter (Y)
Evade (AA)
Cape Stun (B)
Ultra Stun (BBB)
Aerial Attack (B->AA)

Special Combo Break/Disarm (X+Y)
Special Combo Takedown (B+Y)
Special Combo Multi-Takedown (B+A)
Special Combo Bat Swarm (X+A)

Ground Pound (RT+Y)
Beatdown (B->XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX)

I've done all of these moves in a single combo at least a DOZEN times, and I'm not getting the achievement. And whenever I'm doing Multi-Takedown, I do make sure that someone was on the ground before the move and that they get taken down after the move. I also make sure that the Break/Disarm move actually breaks a weapon. There has to be a move that is missing in the above list.

I'm really wondering whether to get this on PS3 for the 3D (really loved it in Uncharted), or PC next week (HDTV/360 pad setup). Does the PS3 have any big problems?

What are your PC specs? PC version of AA had great 3D, I'm sure this will too. It also has some cool PhysX effects.

I think you're missing the batclaw move, man.

When you quick hook an enemy (LT+Y), if you press the strike button (X) while the enemy is reeling, you will perform a strike that counts in the variation.

Using the batclaw itself adds to the gadget variation but if you do the batclaw slam, it adds to the regular physical variation.

Yeah my achievement popped just a second ago. I saw a random video in which a person's first move was the batclaw ground slam, and decided to add that to my arsenal.

What was funny, was that even after seeing the video I just mentioned, I was refusing to believe that the batclaw slam was necessary. The above list is from the xbox360achievements.org forums and they are usually very good with achievement guides. I went on the Joker Carnival map and started doing all my moves, and I had done all 12 of the above moves yet again with no achievement. Then I did the batclaw slam at the worst possible moment. Batman slammed the henchman down just as a red-top-hat-wearing, armour-carrying douchebag hit me from behind. But right after, the achievement popped!

Robin DLC tomorow (for those who missed it) and Skin Pack on the 6th of december

I'm so conflicted on the DLC. I want the new achievements but at the same time I have to realize that the new DLC offers virtually zero new content at a ridiculous price. That applies to both Robin and Nightwing. All the new DLC does is let you play the same damn endless amount of challenges with a different character. It is unreal.

This is the problem with gaming in general. People vote on how they're treated with their WALLET. If you buy this, you'll just give them more reason to fuck you over with this kinda nonsense.

Gamers need to grow a fucking spine seriously. Not so much you, just many gamers in general.

Right... First of all, I'd challenge you to find any other DLC that virtually offers nothing but achievements. This Arkham City is the only example I know about, and that's why I'm so floored by it. I think practically every other DLC Ive bought has offered me really good content. Meanwhile these character packs just make you spend 20 hours re-doing the same challenge maps with a new character, the same challenge maps that ive spent ages playing with batman already.

What were people's problems with the ending? I thought it was kind of perfect.

Absolutely nothing happens.
First of all, the game forces you to rescue Talia, not allowing you to complete any other side missions after leaving the tower. Batman seems to not give a single fuck that Strange, Talia, and Ra's are dead, nor that the League of Assassins is running wild in AC, or how they tied into Mayor Sharp. Batman pulls the Joker's body from the rubble (without even searching for Talia), and leaves AC out the front door looking like he's ready to cry. Then you're "treated" to 10 minutes of the slowest credits crawl ever, with no ending cinema to speak of, no teaser, no easter eggs other than Joker's song. None of the other villains are brought into custody, there's still thousands of inmates running wild in Strange's prison, but the Joker deserves a proper burial? And then, after the credits, you're forced to play the absolutely broken Catwoman vs. Two Face mission. If I was reviewing the game the ending alone would have cost it a full point.

You've also got DLC being announced before a game even comes out, which will often include shitty extra weapons, or maps etc, at absurd prices.

Content has been cut from games for years and years, we all know this. But to buy DLC just because you want some shitty ass achievements? That add what...points to a game account? Lol, it's one of the reasons gaming is completely fucked in this day and age.

How about making a stand and saying, I'm not going to get some shitty dlc at a shitty price, just because I want it. Regardless of whether it's achievement focused or not.

You know, I had no problem with the combat in the last game, but I really don't even want to bother with this achievement this time around.

But for posterity's sake, what level did you do this on? Did you do it in a set way?

And yeah, this stuff with the challenge rooms is such a cop out. I'd be tempted to get the DLC if I could explore the game world with them, and if they had some side missions, but you're basically paying money for a character skin, a few new moves, and some achievements.

I've really been disgusted with how this game has been handled by the WB. From the fuck ups with the special editions, the missing codes, catwoman being cut out of the game and put behind a paywall, etc. These things leave a nasty taste in my mouth.

Check out the post I made almost directly after the post you quoted. I ended up getting the achievement after doing all of the moves in that list PLUS the batclaw ground slam. The batclaw ground slam is done by pushing LT+Y to do a quick-fire batclaw strike, and then pushing X right after to do the ground slam.

The perfect place to attempt this achievement is the Joker Carnival DLC map. It's great because there are practically an unlimited amount of enemy re-spawns. The map starts off with six very easy thugs. You can work on the basic moves against them while building up a combo, and meanwhile other thugs with weapons will spawn into the game. The best thing about this map is that you can immediately re-start it in case you fuck up the achievement. You can attempt the achievement immediately with no hassles. On the other hand, I'm seeing that the second best way to get the achievement (or the first best way, for people who don't have the Joker Carnival map) is to attempt it on rounds 3 to 4 of the Survival of the Fittest map. I hate that friggin map because if you fuck up the achievement, you have to grind through two meaningless rounds (1 and 2) before you can attempt it again.

I agree with you in that there's a lot of DLC (both good quality and bad quality) that are released way too early in the game's lifespan (smells of holding content back for money) or even worse, there's DLC that is on the disc itself. However, regardless, I truly think this is one of the best gens ever. I love gaming in the 360 gen, even if I do feel price gouged sometimes. Anyway, my post here is only focusing on meaty, game-play-related, level-based DLC (campaign DLC, map packs, mission packs, etc...). I think everyone would unanimously agree that any other non-level-based DLC is overpriced for every game in existence (i.e. weapon skins, costume packs, character skins, avatar items, etc...). I do think that level-based DLC though has been very good this generation, aside from the occasional suspiciously early releases or on-disc fiascos.

This Arkham Asylum DLC falls into the non-level-basd category though. You pay 560 or whatever MS points just to use a character on maps you already own. You're buying a character skin, and that's all (technically the bundle has one new map, I think? who the fuck cares though).

Yeah, that meaningless bullshit for the first two rounds is why I quit.

I haven't booted up the game in a while, but why wouldn't I have the joker map?

The Joker Carnival map is exclusive to Gamestop. I don't think it's a pre-order exclusive. I bought Arkham City on day one at Gamestop (and I didn't pre-order) and my copy of the game came with a code for the Joker Carnival map inside the box.

Finished the main story on Friday and thought it was overall pretty awesome with a few gripes
(Strange dead? Joker dead? And why did Bats carry out the Joker and not Talia at the end?)

So now I'm playing the
Catwoman VS Two Face mission
and I'm getting my ass kicked. Will I be able to finish the side-missions once I'm done with this?

Is it just me or did it seem like Batman was in total dismay when he thought Talia killed Joker?

Man I hurt my hand slamming it palm-down on my desk after failing a predator challenge map today. I can't remember the name, but it's the one with the Boom Box medal. =/ This shit is so hard.

And what's unbelievable, is I have to do this again in a campaign map, and campaign maps require you to do three challenges in one sitting to earn every medal. I do not look forward to those lame ass maps.

Also I've decided there's no way I'm paying for Robin or Nightwing, not when I'm having this much grief on these fucking retarded maps with Batman. And I wouldn't be feeling this annoyed if it was just the combat and predator challenges. But what really really ticks me off is that while I'm getting owned by this one predator map, there's the thought gnawing at me at the back of my mind that tells me I'll have to do this predator challenge once again with batman in a much more pressure-intensive situation (the regurgitating campaign map).

FYI I absolutely love the combat challenges. And the predator challenge difficulty is not too bad. What kills me inside is the knowledge that those campaign maps exist. I haven't touched them yet and I don't think I really want to. It seems like it would be near impossible to do three challenges in a row... with mutators no less.
