This is the biggest load of BS I've ever seen on this board.
Snaking was a glitch--period. It wasn't intended to be as overpowered as it was in the game.
Are we talking about the glitch that lets you skip large part of the track? If so:
ROFL! Nintendo outdoing themselves.
The glitch:

Link has the glitch in action.
I would like to know why people perform the glitch? Where's the enjoyment from it?
Eurogamer said:But fixing the bug would give an "unfair advantage" to those with unpatched copies of the game, Nintendo decided.
Though this may have been said within this thread; I blame the unlocking system for much of the Maka Wuhu spamming.
I don't get why this is such a big deal. There was a glitch in the N64 version, on Frappe Snowland, I believe, where you could go back and forth across the starting line and finish a lap in seconds. Also there was the wall you could jump over in Wario Stadium, plus probably more that I can't remember. Glitches/tricks to shaving time off of your lap is an old Mario Kart tradition. Why is it just now a problem?
Aren't they somehow patching Skyward Sword?
But they can't patch this?
Nintendo said:"There are no plans to update the game to remove this shortcut as doing so would create an unfair advantage for the users of the original release of the game. Rest assured your comments have been added to our records for Mario Kart 7."

This exact quote was posted in this very thread much much earlier... and basically it sounds like the Nintendo rep read the question as "will you fix Mario Kart 7 in a future release" instead of "will Nintendo investigate ways to patch the bug". It needs asking again in a clearer, more exact way, in order to get a proper response.
what does that even mean

Seems there's a popular new glitch in town on the other Wuhu track. Harder to pull off and not the huge advantage, but it takes you from the lighthouse to the final corner.
Ah, I was wondering why it seemed like people were jumping ahead of me there. I thought it was just network lag.Seems there's a popular new glitch in town on the other Wuhu track. Harder to pull off and not the huge advantage, but it takes you from the lighthouse to the final corner.
It means you should try reading the thread.
Patching out a glitch... creates an unfair advantage for the users of the original release of the game?
Somehow... they can't force you to update :|

Snaking is as much of a glitch as wavedashing in various fighting games. It's just effective use of the games physics. Whining about it makes you look funny.
Nothing to do with patches. They're talking about changing the new cartridges.
Why in fucks name would they be talking about that in 2012?
Unless the Nintendo rep misunderstood the question?
Snaking in MK64 or Double Dash is like wave dashing in a fighting game.
Snaking in MK DS was the equivalent of some kind of super wave dashing that forced every other character in the game to execute a single counter strategy and essentially removed all other tactics from the game besides wave dashing.
People who snaked around the track in the DS game may have felt cool for winning, but they were no longer playing Mario Kart. They were playing Mario's Slalom Challenge.
Many people who could snake around the entire course in the game felt it was lame and boring themselves, and that the game was broken. What's amusing about the debate is every time it comes up, there's always a percentage of people who say "lol whiners, babby can't play the game". When the objections to snaking in MK DS are completely rational and make sense.
because there are several diverse tactics in terms of driving a kart around in circles three or four times
MK DS snaking didn't increase the game's depth - it stripped it all out. Got rid of every other technique in favor of just one. It actually eliminated the meta game - or rather, crushed it down to "use this one tech or lose. There is no counter strategy."
Snaking in the DS game pretty much removed actual racing from the game
Advanced techniques are fine. The only issue is when they "limit content." Whether that means only a handful of characters are viable in a fighting game or if half of the tracks have large portions you should never actually see if you want to actually win. People want both: ways to master the game and balance.
Somehow... they can't force you to update :|
?no update, no online?
