Yes, Call of Duty, WoW, Farmville, Madden, and Just Dance 2 are the better games. So true. Might as well buy a Kinect now since everyone else is doing it.

If high-stakes are what makes poker such a fun game then the best way to get a home would be card game but card games are that's not where the strength of a card game is found. Card games are simple and have a low barrier of entry and can be enjoyed by all. So counter strike and arma are "great" shooters and are played by many competitively but the better game is CoD because it has a lower barrier of entry and is enjoyed by many.... MANY. This fact is manifested in sales and it's probably the unpleasant truth but that's reality. I could make the argument that more technical games sell more but the quality in a technical game and the quality in a good game aren't found in the same place but seriously, what can be said about quality that can't even push units.

Well, at least the critics technically think it's awesome.

Bayonetta is a very boring game on normal, especially if you don't skip the cutscenes, terrible pacing, cutscenes were longer than the actual verses. Terrible

Hmm I think you played this game wrong. It's not really about the mechanics or technical stuff like the camera... it's the experience!

It took me a while to really appreciate it but once I did it became a really fun and quirky game.

Shit sucked, only game I put back into the mail the same day I got it from Gamefly. Taught me to take be very careful about Gaf hype.

Wipeout is to futuristic racing games as Madden is to football games. Thanks to its popularity there has been very little growth in the genre. It is the game in which every other game of its type is measured which is a shame because it has done little more than get prettier since it was on the PS1.

Sure Fatal Inertia was rough but at least it was a new experience. It would have been nice to see the concept developed instead of being bashed for not being Wipeout.

Gamers are the #1 one reason for the lack of originality in gaming. Most of us just want to keep playing the same types of games over, and over, and over, and over.

Nintendo's insanity always managed to work out for them somehow, though. Sony? Not so much.
To be perfectly honest the only time it hasn't is with the PS3.

The PS2 was anything but conventional, some of its design borders on completely insane.

The PSP was pretty much always going to be the second place handheld if Nintendo got their shit together, the Vita hasn't been on shelves long enough to say anything more than "It's having a rocky start" and we don't know what they are doing with the PS4.

Nintendo's insanity has screwed them over at a pace that Sony hasn't yet.

Seemingly controversial gaming opinion #345: Some times gamers just want more of the same. Not every iteration in a franchise has to be innovative or original. Refining the gameplay is good enough.

What difficulty do you play on?

Hard and non stop climax, the thing isn't about the difficulty though, I could still enjoy it if I replay it on normal, but if you were to do it without skipping cutscenes, with barely anything unlocked for the first time, it was kind of terrible, not to mention every few levels you get the vehicles section, etc. Each verses takes around half a minute to do and the cutscenes are much much longer than that.

I had a lot of fun on my second playthrough.

okay this is the worst troll attempt in the thread by far since it's insinuating that a game that sacrifices artsy fartsy design and focuses solely on tight mechanics is somehow an indie game based on an "experience"

Nope. Being completely honest. For me it was about the goofy experience because the combat system wasn't anything to write home about and the camera was awkward as hell and anything but tight/precise.

That first one is interesting. Care to explain more as to why you hate them? Don't know if it's controversial or not, but I'd take a PSN/iOS game over a retail game any day of the week.

To be fair, there are a lot I haven't tried. They simply don't interest me and a lot of them usually don't have demos available. My second point has a lot to do with this as well, as these particular games usually have no story or a story that is only really there to get the player from point A to point B.

The ones I have tried are those that I get for free from Playstation Plus or the Welcome Back thing.

This includes:

Comet Crash - decent game... not much else to say, one of the few I bothered to play to completion, but I must have been pretty bored to do that.

Red Faction: Battlegrounds - An utterly terrible and shitty top down multiplayer vehicle combat game. Nothing good about it at ALL.

WipEout HD (does this game even count? I'll put it here anyway.) - don't get the hype with this game. Played it for a bit, tried to like it, but just wasn't having fun.

Super Stardust HD - Hey, I actually liked this game! It was fun!

Dead Nation - Played local co-op for a bit with a friend when I got it. Didn't have fun with it.

Bomberman ULTRA - I used to like Bomberman... didn't really play this one. Not sure what to say here

Echochrome - This game was neat. I actually played it for a bit (like a few hour sessions for a couple days) but I got bored quick.

Crash Commando - I loaded this game up once and played it for abour 15 minutes. Game wasn't for me.

Costume Quest - This game was decent, but then I encountered a game-breaking bug and I will not be playing it ever again. Fuck. That. Shit.

Hydrophobia: Prophecy - I played this game for about an hour and could not believe how bad this game was. The voice acting was absolutely terrible and there was nothing interesting about the gameplay.

Back to the Future: The Game - This game isn't too bad, it's keeping me entertained right now while I have no other games to play.

Looking back on that list, maybe I shouldn't renew my Playstation Plus subscription... There were a couple that I "liked" there, but I would much rather be playing a AAA retail game, and I never would have spent money on ANY of these games ever.

Are there better PSN games out there? Well, probably, yeah, but I'm pretty sure I would rather spend my money on a retail game.

Usually these PSN games just don't grab me. I find their character design boring, their soundtracks unmemorable, their stories uninteresting or boring, and they don't even make up for it in gameplay I find.

Hope that was a thorough enough explanation for you =P

It's an amazing game and I love it. And the materia system is balls awesome!

Yes yes that is fine and dandy (I actually like the game too), but your post, avatar and quick diss at OoT reminded me of those days when Nintendo and Sony fanboys fought in their diapers. I guess you must be very young and living the recurring war again.

"....oh."

"YEAH, THIS THREAD IS GREAT."
Hey, man

Wipeout has really gone nowhere since PS1, and Fatal Inertia is actually a pretty good game that was rough around the edges. However, it was more innovative than Wipeout was in all it's previous games.

call of duty: modern warfare 2 is the greatest game ever made

If you are a unthinking, joint smoking, binge drinking, getting yoked at the gym alpha beta kappa frat dudebro than this is true.

Mr. Community
Resident Evil controls and gameplay are utter dogshit. Heck, 5 went beyond with the mandatory AI partner. Truly craptacular gameplay.

Modern turn based RPGs and its variants like FF's ATB are the equivalent of ricing up a horsecart with aerodynamics and carbon fiber - using modern trappings to dress up ancient, outdated gameplay.

VII isn't that bad though. Certainly better than 4 and 6.

Ok, the complete list:

Sega > Nintendo.
Metroid Prime 3 is the best Metroid, ever. Overall I think the series is just ok/somewhat poor.
OG Half-Life is crap.
Not finished with Half-Life 2, but it feels ehh so far.
PC Gamers are ridiculous, I'm one of them, not as ridiculous. Example: Anti-gamepad attitude in the PC gaming community despite the superiority of pads for a variety of genres.
OOT & Mario 64 are good but not amazing.
GTA games are awful.
Paying for XBL is freaking ridiculous.
Microsoft is the worst thing to ever happen to the gaming industry, in terms of console manufacturers.
Rareware didn't start to suck recently, they always have.

Ok, that's my list.

And one more thing!

I can't understand the push for realism. Surrealism? Good to push for. Realism? No. That shit don't fly unless you've got millions and millions of polygons for a single face.

I'm glad someone quoted you with a gif, otherwise I would have missed this. But dude I so fucking agree. They aren't bad but they are definitely not the second coming of gaming journalism like some people seem to act.

I don't think people think they are the Jesus of game's journalism. I think people simply find them to be funny and enjoyable. Just cool guys they like.

Nintendo going third party? Not that unpopular an opinion. Many just seem hesitant to voice it aloud. Most of gaming media seems to jack it furiously to this concept whenever a hint of the idea comes-up.

They catch themselves and stop just short of moaning audibly, "Zelda on xBox.. Zelda on xBox.. ohhh... yeeaaahh.. dun-dun-dun-DUNNNN! Thank you, Bill Gates!"

Ohhh, this is an interesting opinion. When I first played through Bayonetta on Normal and watching all the cutscenes, I walked out of it thinking, "That was alright; above average, but not as good as I'd heard."

Then I played through it on Hard and skipped all the cutscenes. My thoughts upon finishing it were, "OH MY GOD 10/10 HOLY SHIT THAT WAS AMAZING."

holy wow.

I forgot to add: FFVIII & FFX are the best FF games as their storyline's focus on love and loss made them resonate with me most powerfully.

I think Halo is incredibly average in almost every way.

Except for the gravity gun and the character of Alyx I didn't much care for Half-Life 2. Though I've yet to beat it.

From the few hours that I've put into Bastion, I garnered the opinion that it is a tedious hack and slash game with a neat narrator gimmick and a cool soundtrack.

I think all platformers suck.

Beyond Good and Evil is nowhere near as good as you people make it out to be.

Ico is nowhere near as good as you people make it out to be.

The iphone is the best portable gaming platform of all time.

I see your point, but Nintendo managed to be profitable even when going for cartridges for the N64, making the GCN a purple lunchbox/purse, making the dual screen DS family, and going for motion controls with the Wii. They've been insane since the SNES days, but it's always been profitable for them in the end.

Sony is a mess. Not only the gaming division, but the company as a whole. They've been in the red for years now, and the Vita, even if the hardware is great, will most likely sell far less than the PSP did, at least in the West. iOS, Android and Nintendo have the portable gaming market pretty much sewn up. Microsoft and Nintendo ate up Sony's lead in the home console space, and unless they pull some serious magic with the PS4, I could see it being their last console.

Sega didn't kill Sonic; fans killed Sonic. Like echoed in other opinions here, Sega's only mistake was listening to the fans when they said they wanted something different.

Given how much love I gave my shortlived PS1 and PS2's I hope that doesn't come to fruition.

But their future definitely doesn't have the shine it did a decade ago.

My avatar is from the shitty garry's mod fight between sepiroth and cloud. I thought it was hilarious.

I like aLTTP & Majora's Mask more than OoT so that's where the opinion comes from more.

I don't know. Maybe it's the people I talk to but it seems like more than that to them. Always Giant Bomb this, Giant Bomb that. Like there are no other outlets for gaming news/reviews etc. They do seem like decent guys and if I met them I'd have no problem grabbing a beer with them, but I don't find their podcasts or whatnot particularly funny or noteworthy in any way.

Agreed and also, Sonic was never THAT good. The newer games are specially bad. They pretty much play themselves.

I played NSMB and NSMBWii more than Galaxy 1 and 2.

There are waaaaaay better Mega Man songs than MM2 Wily's Castle.

Tekken is boring as hell.

I'd better stop.

I CALL BULLSHIT! Better than the iPad? Seriously?! Had you said iOS, I may have agreed but iPhone is a terrible game device. It's not till the iPad were virtual analog sticks and buttons perfected. It was a terrible experience on the iPhone which covered up most of your game action... I'm not even sure the dead zone on the iPhone analog sticks were that good either.

Bayonetta

That's another one. Bayonetta and Vanquish. And gaf is probably the only place where this opinion is "controversial"

They were both decent/good games with really great gameplay but imo gaf takes it way, wayyy to0 far with its lavish, hyperbolic, semi-religious praise of these two games.

Yeah, I loved my PS1 and PS2 (still do), and love my PS3 too despite its shortcomings (my PSP can go fuck itself though, terrible piece of shit). But I wouldn't deny reality regarding Sony's massive fuckup with the PS3 and sort-of halfway fuckups with the PSP and PSVita. Still, I'll be there for the PS4 to get my fill of Sony first-party goodness.

Yea, everything was better the second time, you could also do a lot of the platformings quicker too, it was almost a complete different game, so I kind of see why people dislike it if they were just to play it once, it's a different experience than other action games.

With few exceptions, people love GiantBomb for the personalities. Especially if we are talking more game criticism than game journalism. The fanbase on NeoGAF is constantly debasing their opinions, more so if the individual poster has a low opinion of game journos in general.
