Resident Evil Revelaitons |OT| 3D Jill Sandwiches

Just before an enemy unleashes an attack, press the circle pad towards them to dodge around behind them. I managed to dodge an attack while facing away from an enemy once, and the dodge moved me further from the enemy, but I don't know how I did that.

oh, I was moving to the left/right and back. God Hand mentality. I guess moving forward makes more sense in Street Fighter 3 risk vs reward sort of way. Normally you back away, but if you push forward, you put yourself in more danger, but also have a change of dodging. Something like that.

has anyone figured out how to dodge? I tried knifing a spiky enemy on hell, and Jill randomly dodged to the left or right. I tried again on another enemy, flicking and double tapping and whatever to replicate it, but nothing happened.

one thing I found is that the knife is really weak. My strategy to kill the first enemy unharmed is to use the grenade and shoot it in the face. Grenade + 1 shot kills it, but grenade + knife takes a thousand stabs.
Just run past the enemy as it attacks and you'll auto dodge. Mind you, you can't dodge scythe-hands or if you can the timing is different.

Some random thoughts on demo:

Maxing out the 3D with settings is very impressive.

For my first playthrough I completely skipped the room with the scanner. I also wasted a lot of shotgun rounds while learning the controls. Had to finish off the last enemy with a knife. Didn't work out lol. Found out how to dodge by accident.

With the scanner I found an item in/on the ceiling (near the hole) in the hallway before the dinning room. What's up with that?

Does the demo end on the bridge with that cutscene? I remember it being timed, so I want to be sure. Also this is definitely not the demo I saw during e3/TGS coverage.

Do we know if we have to unlock Hell mode in the retail release? I hope not.

The controls are really smart. (No comment on dodge though, barely got to use it.)

I'll be getting this the moment I see it for 40 or under.

EDIT: I botched my second play-through because I hit "power" by accident. Fucking 3DS layout, lol. Took me three tries to beat it.

Do you hold it or tap it?

Damn, I really enjoyed that demo. This game wasn't really on my radar but its a day one purchase for me now. The only thing that disappointed me was the sound quality, but the controls, atmosphere, and graphics make up for it, Feb 7th can't come soon enough!

After playing the demo, my interest for this game went down to 0%.

I thought the controls were crap. I mean why the hell can't I back up when shooting.... I mean come on, are we still going with these tank controls.

On a positive note, I thought the game looked stunning, especially for the 3DS.

Um.... you can. Fool around with the different control schemes. Gyro is my favorite, allows for movement while shooting and more precise aiming.

Errr, I think you can...

If you're using the basic controls (A), then use L + back while shooting.

With gyro is much easier. I don't remember the other 2 control settings. Did you go through the control options?

Ok Sorry all, I messed around with the controls a bit, and was able to get through the demo with no problem now...

While I still have little interest in playing the game (at the moment), I will say it does look amazing when you crack up the 3D to it's max setting.

You can also dodge to the sides, it just depends on the attack. The grapple is dodged my tapping forward, or by attacking just as he's gonna grap you. Regular swipes are avoided to the sides.

This game looks great, but it just feels claustrophobic on the small 3DS screen. Sure, you could say it "adds to the atmosphere", but to me it just feels cramped. Also, I can't be the only one who thought "I bet there will be a framerate drop" when they entered the room with all the smoke (luckily it wasn't that bad of a drop, haha).

I was also disappointed that all the cutscenes were low bitrate FMV. I'd be perfectly fine with real time cutscenes that feature less visual bling if it means no (IMO as I have a real pet peeve about this kind of thing) shit quality FMV.

It's hard to tell if that was because it was extra compressed being a demo or if they'll be like that in the final game...although, I noticed turning up the 3D effect makes it look "bigger" like you can see much more

I like gyro aiming, but I wish it let me adjust my aim using the face buttons or the thumbpad at the same time. It's great for making minor adjustments and lining up headshots, but when I need to make a major adjustment, like swinging from the left to right sides of the screen, the 3D tweaks out from me tilting the system. Maybe I'm just 'doing it wrong', but I liked that I could use both the gyro and the thumbpad at the same time when aiming in OoT 3D.

Oh well, seems solid so far, but it just reset on me because I took to long in the bathroom lol.

Supposedly Feb. 7th, GameStop exclusive.

Yeah, they really should've let us use the gyro for fine tuning regular stick aiming, but I don't think it's going to be an issue. I'm actually really fond of the sensitivity of the gyro in the demo, too, because I felt like I had to make more exaggerated movements in OoT or 3D Land. Could be mistaken, though.

How can the demo even reset for you guys? I mean, i left the game open, closed the 3DS lid, came back 30-40 mins later, and i was at the exact same place as before.

What will the circle pad pro actually offer? Is it going to let you actually aim and walk in the standard control scheme?

If you pause for a minute or two it boots it to the menu.

It takes around 5 minutes at most for me. It just happened again after I got distracted by GAF. Maybe closing the 3DS prevents it, I'm leaving it paused or idle.

Finished my first go. I have a few problems with it, but I'm definitely gonna stick with my plans to buy it. It's too early in the system's lifecycle to be picky anyways.

Oh man this game is so good looking on the 3DS.

I can't decide whether I should use 3D or not though since it adds all those jaggies.

Hold it, I guess. You've got to start moving early at the very least. Like before the enemy gets into the attack position.

I'm still deeply confused by the dodging mechanics lol. I keep wrecking myself in Hell mode trying to figure it out. Does knife (not direction input) only dodge some moves? Can all moves be dodged?

Why do headshots only sometimes stagger enemies? (Mainly the double spikey arm ones.) Something to do with that eye?

Anyway, the encounter design is so much better in hell mode.

Using the shoulder buttons on 3DS is so unconformable for me, especially if I am using 3D at the same time. Noticed this on 3D Land also.

Yay! I beat Hell mode in one sitting!

All the audio complaints are unfounded. I have my 3DS plugged to some nice Altec Lansing speakers. Unlike Mercenaries, the audio does not sound compressed.

There's a knife dodge? No idea how that works (I don't really use the knife much in RE games).

Anyway, what I was describing was the running dodge, Which is automatic and requires no real skill to pull off. Just run past/around the enemy as it attack and you'll auto dodge if you're in still in the hit box range.

To utilise it effectively, all you have to do is drop you're aim and start running just before the enemy gets into striking position. It works everytime for me, since my general tactic since RE4 has always been to find a spot, shoot the enemy till it gets to close then run to the other side of the room (evading the attack), quick turning and continuing to shoot as the enemy makes it's return.

Since the corridors are narrower and the enemies attack wider than in 4 & 5, the running dodge seems to be a concession to allow us to continue using such tactics.

I think the 3d is bad. I'm using max setting for every game, but the ghosting is almost Rayman 2 level of annoying. On the default level there is still ghosting and the 3d effect is completely toned down. On strong or very strong my head explodes.

I'll probably have to go with 2d mode, the added AA is nice.

Oh, and 1st person mode is really bad, 3d person all the way.

I'm wondering what the ghosting people are complaining about is...I played the demo 3 times at different 3D levels and even with the gyro so I had my 3DS at all sorts of angles and didn't notice any ghosting

Uncompressed or not, it still sounds like shit, almost like it wasn't properly mastered for 3DS hardware specifically.

For me, the bad audio takes the whole presentation down a notch. Otherwise, the graphics look wonderful, controls seem nice, and the atmosphere almost makes me think Capcom didn't fuck this one up. Excited to play he full game!

lol, getting frustrated. I can't find a consistent way to dodge the first enemy in Hell Mode. I'm basically constantly restarting if I get hit once.
