Twisted Metal Demo Impressions

Game and OST are insanely awesome so far, but I can see what Jett was talking about with the controls. Its alot to take in at once for newcomers, and still sort of iffy to remember once you know the controls in the heat of a fight.

Well that'd be why Jaffe calls it more like a fighting game

But its not that complex

I actually like the controls. They have a learning curve but after two hours of play, I got a hold of it all.

I really love this game. It controls perfectly, its simple to make awesome things happen, and yet there's an insane amount of depth strategy lurking below the surface, waiting to be mined. Gameplay variety is the number 1 thing I want in a multiplayer game, and I can tell I'm going to play the hell out of this. Just get that matchmaking fixed!

Ok, I played the demo (my first experience with Twisted Metal).

A lot of stuff to take in, and the matchmaking kept getting errors so I ended up just getting my ass kicked by the AI a couple times. I suck really bad, and I haven't quite gotten a handle on the controls, but I really like the way the game feels. Still undecided on if I'll buy it or not. We'll see if I can get a bit better with some more time in the demo.

played the demo last night, and here are my impressions:

The button mapping is all over the place. It seems way too complex.

It'd be nice if R1 or R2 was accelerate and L1 or L2 was brake, as well as making the rest of the button mapping a little more consistent or maybe i mean coherent (press back on the right stick to reverse and up on it to look up?!) Can you set it so that left and right on the Dpad switch weapons?

Anyway it seemed fun, I'm not sold on it though. I like racers with combat but I'm not sure about a purely vehicle combat game.

What could it be? Did that Sweet Tooth scene from the trailer not go over well with the censorship boards there?

No clue. David said that they sit down and reworked cutscenes etc. Hence the story is there but for example there may not be as much blood or a violent scene may not be as violent as the US release.

You can change the control scheme to that

Holy crap. They just described one of the hardest trophies ever:

Fire a freeze missile at someone that is already frozen so it bounces back, hits you for 1HP damage, and kills you.

It seems reapers are anti-talons as well. You freeze one then use a flaming chainsaw and its a one hit kill.

Some great players came in and beat game in about 8 hours. People that were new took a lot longer then that. So that's great.
