Obsidian is the best RPG developer.
How is that controversial if it's a fact?
Obsidian is the best RPG developer.
"You only like this thing to impress people/seem cool." isn't an opinion, it's a claim which can be proven false. No one has to respect your baseless accusation.
No one asked that all the opinions be respected, but to respect the right to an opinion.
Also: losing your cool because of opinions in a controversial opinion thread? Really?
Obsidian is the best RPG developer.
Why do people spoiler tag text that doesn't contain spoilers? Is it the same trendies that pretend to like Dark Souls?
Haha, come on, seriously. Did you expect me to say the above and NOT put some text into a spoiler here, thereby negating any ire caused by my transgression while also showing off by using "ire" and "transgression"
It's like if I said that anyone who would use "Super Smash Bro" as their username probably doesn't brush their teeth and likely hasn't changed their underwear for the past three years.
I completely understand how much I fail in this regard. Everything you've said thus far, I don't disagree with. But I'm a super busy guy nowadays. Gaming hours are at a premium, and for some reason I like to shoot for platinums and 1000/1000s in games. In previous generations I took pride in 100% games or doing speed runs. I really love the fact that now it's documented by Sony or MS that you've done such things. Therefore, since I'm a busy guy and can't play all that much, when I do have time to play, I like it to be something where I can earn arbitrary rewards. As silly and wrong as it sounds it's how I feel now. But I'm also secretly hoping that Valkyria Chronicles goes up in price. I initially bought it thinking it had a short print supply, but judging from prices on ebay, there are plenty of copies out there. I may just open it and go through it during the summer or something.Oh don't get me wrong, I enjoy cheevs/trophies, I think if they are done right, they can add some real fun to the game. I also kind or get people slogging through a game to get the "finished the campaign" trophy, I get that. But denying yourself the enjoyment of a great game, because your PlayStation doesn't pat you on the head every hour or so is lunacy to me.
People who think that people like Demon's/Dark Souls to be cool are idiots who shouldn't be allowed to say things.
Really? I could have sworn it turned off achievement notifications, too. If I can ever kick my girlfriend off the 360, I'll give it a look-see.
Haha, analog sticks are absolutely terrible for FPS aiming. You don't play a lot of FPS games, do you?
This is just 100% fact and no one could argue otherwise. Who's better? Bioware, who hasn't made a RPG on par with any of theirs in 10 years? Bethesda, with their increasingly simple and RPG-lite games? Square? Can anyone even remember when they made a good game? Oh yeah, it was around the time the big Obsidian guys were making fallout 2, planescape torment and icewind dale.
CD Projekt is good but they only have 2 releases.
Fallout: New Vegas alone (with all the DLC) is the best RPG by far in quite a while, and is all that takes to launch Obsidian above Bioware, Bethesda, CDProjekt and whoever else.

Find Mii is the best (or at least, most compelling) RPG in years.
My fiancé actively drives to places she has no reason to go other than to collect Street Passes, and that's evidence enough for me.
How does someone who ignores dental hygiene and regular underwear changing, go out with somebody to the point they want to marry you?

While we are talking about Obsidian....what are the chances of a Alpha Protocol sequel /successor?
Having no pause button in Demon's Souls is beyond stupid and only appeals to neckbeards who need not worry about a situation in real life requiring their immediate attention.
edit: A successor could work though, it just wouldn't be in the AP universe. That's a possibility though, because it's not like the main character was amazing. They can create a better AP-like game under a better and less demanding publisher.
I played Halo 3, CoD4:MW, and then Half-Life 2 (in that order) and thought HL2 was inferior in every way, from gameplay to presentation, to the other two.
This opinion got me laughed off other, more "PC-centric" sites, but GAF seems more console-friendly so I'm not sure if this is controversial here or not.
I respect opinions. The Demon's Souls thing isn't the only thing in this thread that I don't agree with, but it's the only one I will call out like that because, as was said earlier, that's not an opinion. That's being dumb.
Why are you attacking people for liking a game that you don't? If someone likes Demons Siuls they are a dirty neck beard with no life?Having no pause button in Demon's Souls is beyond stupid and only appeals to neckbeards who need not worry about a situation arising in real life requiring their immediate attention.
Edit:
I know, but that's just unnecessarily tedious.
Final Fantasy IV is the best FF, followed closely by XII.
a. EA isn't the devil.
b. Controller is preferable to kb/m.
c. PC elitists are the worst subsection of players in the gaming community.
He said he thought not a lot of people actually liked it. That means you could still have genuinely liked it. The fallout makes it pretty clear he struck a nerve, lol.

I don't see how it would appeal to anyone but basement-dwellers.
There you go again. If anyone doesn't agree with you they are a basement dweller.
Hey, this is the controversial opinions thread. And my controversial opinion is that no-pause in Demon's Souls is stupid and people who like it are stupid.
No, but people who like the lack of a pause button in Demon's Souls(and they do exist) irritate me.
It's such a stupid and annoying idea. I don't see how it would appeal to anyone but basement-dwellers.
Sonic games have never been good, and the only reason why people like them are because they owned a Sega system in the past (and they justified Sonic as a good game to make them feel better about owning a crappy, inferior system), or because they are weird freaks who are sexually attractive to animals.
Hey, this is the controversial opinions thread. And my controversial opinion is that no-pause in Demon's Souls is stupid and people who like it are stupid.
Here's my opinion (hope no one gets ofended):
Kotor2 > Kotor1, in a gameplay sense, everything just feels more dinamic and fast, and I prefer Kotor 2's Skilll and feats.
How about this, if you don't like the no-pause in Demon's Souls you are a fucking idiot and a giant fucking baby. That is my controversial opinion.
It's an online game.

What if you choose to play it offline to avoid all the annoying online features? It should let you pause then.

So you have to quit to the title screen instead which saves your exact position. Hardly a big deal. I doubt anyone would argue that they prefer having no pause but in practice it's just a couple of extra button presses to do the same thing.
Amnesia stops being scary right after a monster kills you for the first time. After that, the monsters are annoying roadblocks in a mediocre adventure game.
I would. There are plenty of reasons why it works in Dark Souls, on several levels actually. Technically you got the online game aspect and the online features are mimicked offline (e.g. invasions). Atmospherically (and this is tricky because these are also mechanical aspects, but this shouldn't be a surprise if you think about how mechanics affect mood) this fits the game "natural" feel, for example the way inventory management doesn't happen in a pocket universe where time stops. The removal of a safe haven for your mind from a scary or challenging (short of quitting the game entirely and basically ending the encounter altogether) has an obvious effect on your emotions during those situations. Naturally this also hurts you in terms of difficulty. Yes, pause does make videogames slightly easier. This is visible in arcade games, more so if you are actually playing an arcade game. That's not to say all games should not have pause. Players, even challenge hungry ones, usually don't want to have their bladders or the flexibility of their social life tested, though there is something to be said for endurance. Dark Souls just manages to take advantage of its save system (constantly saving the game so there's no deliberate exploiting of checkpoints and whatnot) and makings pausing possible, but not really a good idea within continuous play (in other words: when you want to pause the game for reasons other than taking a break).
There is a chance people who complain about such a thing are being scrubs and trying to find something to blame for a failure or series of failures. Then there is nothing to explain.
EDIT: Arbitrary (in terms of rule design), tediousness, etc are all dangerous words to use. These are words people like to hide behind. "This and that are unnecessary/random/unfair/cheap/tedious/mean/janky/shoddy/not tight/not crisp/intuitive/etc etc". Sentences which use these type of words should always be looked at with great suspicion. Prejudice even, given we are on a forum.
Most RTS games have about as much strategy to them as tic-tacs have calories. This includes Starcraft 2.

In ~500 hours of Souls games I've never once thought, "Damn, I wish I could pause this game." Honestly.
