Good lord no. I absolutely love the system. It provides an excitement I haven't felt since the current generation consoles first launched (and the lineup is even better than those).

It's an amazing piece of hardware.

I too felt burned by the 3DS after buying it at launch (poor lineup + bleh hardware + price drop), but I don't feel that way with the Vita.

Same feeling exactly. Vita and 3DS

For Streetpass? Basically, you carry your 3DS around with you. The built in pedometer counts your steps and the steps convert into coins. You earn up to 10 coins a day (1000 steps) and can use these coins to buy puzzle pieces. As you streetpass with other people, they can choose to take one of your puzzle pieces and you can choose one of theirs to complete various Nintendo themed puzzles.

Yes, Near has similar concepts but does it differently. If you update your location manually, it will record your distance travelled since the last known location. This is presented as a series of black footprints on the radar.

If you set Near to update automatically, it will do the same distance calculation automatically. These will appear as *white* footprints on the radar.

But there is no coins to earn. The system keeps track of the stats, waiting for other games to use I suppose.

Theres also a mini game quest thing called Find Mii where your main Mii gets kidnapped and you have to Streetpass with other people and use their Miis to rescue your Mii. As they progress through the stages, they come across treasure chests containing hats that you can then use to dress up your Mii.

Yes, I think the fun comes from the mini-games. I read that they are going to release T@G and other mini-games in SCEE Vita launch. Hopefully more developers use GPS in clever ways. The upcoming Gust game is said to use some 3G/GPS concepts. No details so far.

It's not just the built in stuff too. Developers can have their games support Street Pass, and you register those games on your system so that it can collect Street Passes from those games without the game being in the system. You just get a notification and a list of which games have updates.

Yes, Near also supports 3rd party games. As in any game can use Near to post/exchange/trade items, and interact with other players.

EDIT:
Vita does have solid and innovative platform concepts, but I think Sony has yet to deliver the upper layers. I think those StreetPass games you mentioned deliver the goods/benefits very well, much better than Near sitting pretty gathering stats.

Hope to see more Near apps, or even a revamped Home for PS3 and Vita.

I've already gotten more out of Near in one night compared to almost a year of Street Pass.

I've tried what you said and I rarely get anything out of it. Plus, the 3DS dies extremely quickly in sleep mode if you keep the WiFi antenna enabled (the Vita has already lasted much longer in sleep mode by comparison).

Near seems to work from anywhere and manages to find people reasonably far away.

I think the key differences are the time shift, and the dynamic discovery range. Near is meant to work even if the players are not at the same place at the same time. The Near servers remember who're at the same place for the past say... 24 hours.

simply put... no

What are you talking about? You don't need to format your memorycard to switch accounts. You can download Japanese demo's on the same memory card as your American demo's but you can only play them when logged into your Japanese account (and vice versa).

What's the situation with multiple accounts? The main thing keeping me from ordering is I like to download stuff from US, EU, HK and JP stores, and I read they made it a pain in the ass to do so.

Anyone have experience with this? It's on the top of my list of "things that are important".

Edit; Well, above post helps.

Is there anyway to transfer save games from my old psp to the vita?
Thinking of replaying P3P on the vita with a new game plus.

I think ....and I can't confirm, that if you transfer them from your PSP to your PS3 then you can transfer them to your Vita.

There is an option (I believe) in the Vita Content Manager to transfer PSP "Other data".

Does anyone know about the customizing options when you are playing a PS1 game via remote play?
I would like to know if it is 100% that you can make the rear touchpad L2 and R2.
I would really like to stream across Abe's Odysee, I absolutely love that game, but it was not very good on the PSP as you really needed L2/R2 and the custom options were naff.

Can anybody comment on how some of the PSP games look on the Vita?

I purchased Persona 3 Portable yesterday and I'm sad to say that it doesn't look that great (even with Bilinear Filtering). However, I've been told that Tactics Ogre and Half-Minute Hero look really excellent.

Building off this....can anyone comment on the "PSP Color-space" option when running PSP games on the Vita?

I'm not quite sure what that does (is it better to have it turned on?)

Late to the news but I see in the OP that Brave Story is incompatible with the Vita

Fuck that, I purchased it right before it was de-listed from PSN after Game Republic closed just so I could play it on the Vita

Someone get me a magazine rack!!

We really need to get some people logging into the Hot Shots Golf servers...every lobby is completely empty! :(

I was on last night.

Someone stood on top of the fountain and said "Anyone NEOGAF". I said "Yes!" but then they left without responding. I was so excited... and then so sad...
So I went to the other lobby and slid down the railing thingies by myself for half an hour and went to sleep.

Rayman does look pretty great. Thinking about paying full price for it on the Store once I get my Vita.
Totally worth it. The game is very replayable and always fun to go back to. I actually purchased it twice (PS3 + Vita). It's that good.

Has someone tried downloading it onto the PS3, and moving it on to their Vita?

So last night I signed up for the 3G to get my SSD (oh, loving my FEB Vita so far - awesome). There is no mention whatsoever of the SSD+DLC or second month being free.

I'm starting to wonder if I missed something (i.e. promo code) in the process. Anyone have similar/different experience?

The voucher will be made available to you on PSN after your first month of 3G dataplan.

Word on the street is you get the game AFTER 30 days from the time of sign up for your data plan.

Thank you Amazon France ^_^. I used the code they gave me for the Pre Order box on a new order and got Vita + 8gig Card + Pre-Order Box for €223. Down from the €252 it was before.

That works out at £185 so I think I win?

Has anyone's Amazon Vita order in the UK been dispatched or is being processed ?

Mine says "Not Yet Dispatched", I don't expect it to be sent until Monday, maybe Tuesday.
Has yours been processed or dispatched, or are you just asking?

Are Amazon giving gift cards to every order without the preorder pack?
If so, is it only a France thing at the moment?

Wha...? You have to explain this please. Free roaming avatar lobbies?

By the way guys, I'm not sure if I'm allowed to speak about this website here? I apologize if I shouldn't.

Anyways, I found this website called lockerz, which I'm sure most of you know about it already. Not going to explain everything but I managed to get a 3G launch bundle for $240 last week, free shipping, no tax. I was scared that it would be a scam site but from what I've read, it's legit.

Yeah I assume it's only Amazon France. They had a Vita + 8gig order up that was supposed to include the Pre Order box but had no option to pick it. So today they sent me a coupon for it. Seems it messed up somehow and the total discount for the full order worked out at €93.65.

reading through the CAG thread on next weeks b2g1 free deal on Vita games....

it's looking like a setup for massive disappointment, as there are some key titles (namely Rayman and Lumines) that don't seem to be carried in stores.

Also, Lumines is not anywhere on the Best Buy website (can anyone find it?) and Rayman is not being sold in stores at Best Buy.

edit:

Also looks like no Katamari or Shinobido in Targets either.
