It's a new feature lol. You have to delete manually now.

They remain there so that they're available to copy to the Vita I think? Saves having to download them twice I guess.

Been away for a couple days, and this topic has exploded which I expected. But, I have a question for you folks...

Is it just me, or does the FEB system Case smell like some sort of rotting fish? WTF is up with that? Or is it just mine?
It's not just you.

Problem, Amazon.fr just sent me a €30 gift voucher for the Preorder box, its not part of my orginal order so I have to pay postage on it (€25). There's nothing in the preorder box worth 25 right?

Nope not really just a box with some headsets

+ it isn't exactly free for me neither :/

So to everyone who bought the first edition bundle... are you feeling any buyers remorse? I'm so close to buying one but I just have this feeling I shouldn't as I was pretty burned by the 3DS launch. Rayman Origins looks real fantastic though...

One thing that's annoying me is that WiFi is shut off when playing Uncharted (I knew about this) but it doesn't turn back on when I'm done with the game. I have to manually go into the settings and connect to my router.

are there 'widgets' available for things like that, i mean WIFI or BT on/off and such?

What "use" do you have from Streetpass? I haven't found anything useful with it since I bought it at launch. Near locates people near you (and you can message those people), rates games, let's you see what your friends are playing,. I honestly don't see how you couldn't find it more useful than Streetpass.

Streepass is cool because of the fun little games attached to it. Its literally a dream come true for someone that loved collecting useless shit. I cant get enough of it because I NEED all the Mii hats and puzzle pieces.

Near looks cool because its almost like a mini community in your area. Love that you can see what others nearby are playing and invite them to your friends list. Maybe theyll expand on its usefulness later on.

The instruction manual says the screen is made of glass

What? it is?

No I am loving it. But if you get FEB now, u will get it about same time as normal one anyways.( unless u get it offline i guess)

In terms of FEB extra contents, I dont really like any of then, but that was what I expected

Fuck no. If anything I regret not importing! Vita is already my favourite game device ever. I love the games so far, both the original titles and the ports. I also love catching up on PSP titles with it.

Can't wait for Gravity Rush and Persona 4, and looking forward to seeing what Sony and third parties have to announce over the coming months.

I am very glad I got a FEB ! ^_^

Heh really? No wonder I swore it didn't do this before. Why would they do that?

I don't carry my 3DS around anymore (the crappy standby battery life kills that idea) but when I do, it's when I am travelling. That means me passing through airports, with lots of people who you'd think would also be bringing their 3DS with them to kill time at the gate/on the plane.

I pretty much NEVER get any StreetPass hits, ever. I took two flights in the last couple of months, one on Christmas Eve, and again a few days after New Year's (so post-price drop). Absolutely no hits, and I was passing through LAX. The last time I got StreetPass hits was the LA NeoGAF meetup...

I think StreetPass is a borderline useless feature, at least for me. Near is better IMHO because you just have to pass through the same area, but not necessarily at the same time, and it doesn't rape your battery.

Fair enough. Sorta surprised you didn't get hits at the airport. When I go out shopping and I get at least 2 or 3 hits on each trip. I'll admit I don't bring it with me as much, but even when it's in my backpack, I still get a hit every now and then. I was hooked to getting hits for the first 6 months. Near seems questionable to me since you have to hook up to a WiFi network to use it where as Street Pass was just on all the time and would get hits without any type of setup.

I really don't see a use for streetpass whasoever. You are right. I have gotten a lot of hits with mine during my commutes, but I almost get a "so what" feeling. Near at least is integrated with the games you play like being able to leave gifts and such.

Streetpass to me it seems just lets you "connect" with random people, but the activites you can do with the people you get hits from is very limited.

For example, when I was at E3, i got a shitload of hits (200 in total) but you couldn't really do much with those hits. Already completed the quest thing and the puzzle stuff is just crap.

You didn't activate it for games? Ridge Racer was giving me ghost data which was cool.

How do you collect stuff ? You share/exchange items with other passing players ? Or the developers leave items in different locations for you to gather ?

Weird. Someone watch those stupid Smash youtube videos to see how it breaks or the microwave one!

---

I was playing Little Deviants and I earned a gift. It then asked if Id like to give it to Near players to give to them.

So awesome.

If you even feel remotely that something in that package isn't worth the money, just wait. It's 5 days until you can just walk into any store and buy a 249.99 version and then get a deal on some games (b2g1free).

What's the situation with multiple accounts? The main thing keeping me from ordering is I like to download stuff from US, EU, HK and JP stores, and I read they made it a pain in the ass to do so.

I really don't think it is.

It's way stronger than gorilla glass.. I dont believe it either. Have you seen the video of the guy hitting the Vita with a sledge hammer? Took about 4 hits before it cracked. After it did, he tried extremely hard to shatter it and bend it in half...

You trade data with someone you pass by. You can then use that to collect a puzzle piece if they have a piece you don't have. There's also Find Mii which is a mini-RPG where you use the people you come across from Streetpass to fight through monsters and save your own Mii.

I'm certain I'm in the minority here and I've never played the ps3 version but mod nation is actually a ton of fun. Visuals aren't as sharp as wipeout but it certainly doesn't look bad. It controls amazingly. Better then any other kart racer I've ever played. Weapons are really fun I love the boost mechanic and weapon upgrading system especially converting unused weapons for boost (awesome when you're in first) and the shield timing. The computer is actually pretty tough to race against and maybe I'm not astute enough but the frame rate seems pretty smooth to me.

Also the customization and track building are really neat and in depth.

My only complaint is the menu system isn't very intuitive. It takes a little poking around to discover all the options.

All in all I've been having a blast. Especially for $25.

I got it on impulse (FEB, not the Vita in general) and dont regret it. The case is great, Ill get use out of the 4 GB card, will trade in Little Deviants to Best Buy (see that I can get $24 for it now). I have the whole weekend off and Im loving each and every game Ive purchashed so far (Lumines, Uncharted, HSG, SSD).

You share stuff with passing players. That's why Street Pass seems more useful to me than Near. It actually can affect games. Granted some are only mini games like Street Fighter where you battle your line of characters against someone else to rank up. But others like Ridge Racer you can share ghost data to race against. It's just neat to get hits and see what surprise you get to play.

Wow can't believe they charged you 35c. well this €30 isn't much use to me, do you want it?

the code is only valid on a ps vita pre order else they can charge you the full price for it

just use it when you buy something else at amazon France then u can still order it without paying for postage cause your already paying for the other stuff :)

My iPad and IPhone wall chargers don't give enough power to charge this bad boy. Any 3rd party wall warts I could pick up that are cheaper than the absurd Vita ac adapter?

Also, totally ebaying my FEB case so I can pick up one of those VIP cases if (when?) they come stateside. How much do you think that FEB case is worth?

Not true. Near can be set to autoupdate every hour, even on a Wifi Vita (like my JP Vita) it basically scans all the nearby wifi networks and stores them, even if it can't make a network connection. Then, at the end of the day, it connects once to the near server, geolocates the stored wifi data, and then presents you with the results.

Near does this as well, you can upload a "gift" so that people playing the same game can receive your gift. For example, I uploaded a skin unlock for Lumines for anyone nearby. I've seen game gifts for Katamari, UMVC3, and Modnation Racers as well.

Rayman has been funky for me with shoulder buttons (needed to run). Like you, i would have to hold down a tad harder just to ensure he never stopped

Hmmmm...

I wonder if only some of us are affected...or perhaps only some of us are noticing the problem.

I really need to try another Vita to verify. It's the only issue that's really killing the system for me.

You do need a network to use Near but because it keeps expanding the range until you find other fellow players, you should be able to encounter people/exchange items even if you stay at home. You should be able to do this asynchronously too (e.g., people pass by the same location at different times)

You can also set Near to update your location automatically (once a day).

You can view your discoveries like this:
http://manuals.playstation.net/document/en/psvita/near/collection.html

I see. the cool part is the mini-games then. It's a pity Sony did not improve/revamp Home to include Vita. The StreetPass mini-games you mentioned are indeed very creative !

For Streetpass? Basically, you carry your 3DS around with you. The built in pedometer counts your steps and the steps convert into coins. You earn up to 10 coins a day (1000 steps) and can use these coins to buy puzzle pieces. As you streetpass with other people, they can choose to take one of your puzzle pieces and you can choose one of theirs to complete various Nintendo themed puzzles.

Theres also a mini game quest thing called Find Mii where your main Mii gets kidnapped and you have to Streetpass with other people and use their Miis to rescue your Mii. As they progress through the stages, they come across treasure chests containing hats that you can then use to dress up your Mii.

It's way stronger than gorilla glass.. I dont believe it either. Have you seen the video of the guy hitting the Vita with a sledge hammer? Took about 4 hits before it cracked. After it did, he tried extremely hard to shatter it and bend it in half...

Whered the whole "Its plastic!" thing originate from then? Something like this should be easy to find out.

Not at all. I was up really late last night playing Wipeout and Lumines and messing around with the OS. Can't wait to take lunch so I can play around with it some more. If I hadn't bought it, I'd be chomping at the bit, refreshing my Amazon page to see if it was coming.

I tried to refrain from getting my hands on a Vita until mine arrives next week, but one of the art designers at work brought his in, so I got to hold it and putz around with ModNation Racers.

My thoughts:

Screen is gorgeous. Duh. It was also really fast and responsive.
Analog sticks felt really good and responsive.
The buttons and digital pad were awesome as well.
It was really light, yet comfortable to hold and still felt premium.. Feels so much better than the PSP.
ModNation is fun, looks and feels like the PS3 version and I may end up picking it up at some point in the future. The framerate seemed stable, but it was only a test track, and I only played it for a good minute or two before passing it on to my coworker.
After playing around with it, that same coworker ordered the 3G/WiFi unit from Amazon when he got back to his desk. lol.

Also: WHY DID I PLAY IT????!! This is going to be an even more painful 7 days than it already was looking to be.

Good lord no. I absolutely love the system. It provides an excitement I haven't felt since the current generation consoles first launched (and the lineup is even better than those).

It's an amazing piece of hardware.

I too felt burned by the 3DS after buying it at launch (poor lineup + bleh hardware + price drop), but I don't feel that way with the Vita.

You don't need to know anyone with a 3DS which is the nice thing about it. Just throw it in your bag or backpack and have it on you. You'd be amazed at how often you get hits just randomly. It's kinda neat and I was taking my 3DS everywhere with me to get hits to play some of the built in games that use the Street Pass.

I was hoping the Vita would have something like Street Pass, and I thought Near was it, but the recent posts here make me think otherwise. Street Pass so far sounds more useful than Near, but I'll have to check out Near when I get it.
I've already gotten more out of Near in one night compared to almost a year of Street Pass.

I've tried what you said and I rarely get anything out of it. Plus, the 3DS dies extremely quickly in sleep mode if you keep the WiFi antenna enabled (the Vita has already lasted much longer in sleep mode by comparison).

Near seems to work from anywhere and manages to find people reasonably far away.

Ok, it definitely sounds a lot better than people were making it sound like earlier in the thread. It just sounded like I would connect to my home network and see who is within a 5k radius so I can see what they're playing and friend request them to play. That seemed a bit useless to me. What you describe sounds a lot more interesting.

I see. the cool part is the mini-games then. It's a pity Sony did not improve/revamp Home to include Vita. The StreetPass mini-games you mentioned are indeed very creative !

It's not just the built in stuff too. Developers can have their games support Street Pass, and you register those games on your system so that it can collect Street Passes from those games without the game being in the system. You just get a notification and a list of which games have updates.

My hp touchpad charger gives enough power.

So is there any way to get demos from the Japanese store without losing my American demos? I want to have them all and not wipe my memory card.. any way to do this?

The best thing i like about vita is its not a pain to play. Compare to PSP and even GO. The nubs are super easy on your fingers. Unlike PSP where my thumb starts hurting after a while, the weight is also perfect, where it just sits without keep readjusting it. Also, the big screen is really easy on the eye.

I am loving how I can game handheld without the usual things I hate about handheld gaming.

I am just suprised by how snapping and fast the OS is. Multitasking and closing APPS/Games is extremely quick and easy. Just goes to show how long a ways Sony has gone to is OS development. I can't wait til they release more applications/content.

No remorse at all. It is already the best handheld I have ever owned.
