Had 43,500 credits so I bought two Vet packs - one got me the Quarian Engineer AGAIN, but the second one got me the Salarian Infiltrator, so all is well again. Hell yeah. Only race I'm missing is the Drell, but that'll come tomorrow for sure with my luck in this so far.
Curious to see how I'll play him with this Energy Drain, but I like the idea of the proximity mine though since I upgraded the Sticky Grenades to them on another character.

Turian Sentienl is a crowd checker when it comes to the maxed out Overload with the Chain Overload - chose that upgrade twice, so when I hit one enemy, it bounces to the next closest one and then the next closest one, over 8 meters away, leaving all three stunned for easy headshots. Love it.

Krogan Soldier is just way too fun smashing everyone in just one hit, with the upgrade for just two heavy melees to start Rage, which then gives me 70% bonus damage. So good. And he's only Level 9.

I want to unlock some new characters :( Got the Turian sentinel 4 times and female infiltrator anout 6 damnit.
I'm rolling trough bronze pretty easy now, time to step it up and get to silver.

This is the coolest thing... I love those packs you can buy that come with random loot. That's such a neat idea. Gah! I don't want to play it anymore though, don't want to be tired of the combat before the game comes out. Hopefully they don't change it all up...

Here's my impressions of the non-human races at level 20. Note that in the demo, only one race of each class is unlockable (e.g. you will only have a human male and asari adept, a human male and krogan soldier). Another interesting thing to note is that with max weapon upgrades, your weapons will do FAR more damage compared to max-level biotics or powers.

  • Asari Adept - Works as a debuffer and crowd control. Her abilities don't do much damage but can be upgraded to keep spamming them almost non-stop. Her final Stasis upgrade lets your Stasis affect all enemies in a large bubble that stays there for a while, which lets them get easily mopped up by your team mates.
  • Krogan Soldier - Can be min-maxed as either a long-range tank or a melee berserker. I did not build him as a melee focused character because I doubt it would be practical in Gold difficult matches. The Krogan Soldier is likely to be the most hardest-to-kill class in the game because he gets the Fortification skill which reduces damage, however he can't dodge roll and is extremely slow moving.
  • Quarian Engineer - Works like a hybrid between a shooter and a nuker. Unfortunately her sentry turret is nowhere near as strong as the enemy turrets, but perhaps it scales according to difficulty. The nice thing about the turret is that you can spam it out constantly to respawn it because it has a low cooldown and it's a good way to slow down enemies that may be flanking you because they'll stop to engage it.
  • Turian Sentinel - Basically plays like the Krogan Soldier, moves slowly but Tech Armor makes him almost as tough as the Krogan. Has Warp and Overload for some quick and easy nukes but most of your damage will still be coming from guns.
  • Salarian Infiltrator - Works like a normal human Infiltrator so it can be used for sniping or mid-range combat. Cloak lets you skip pass enemies in order to get to objectives or revive a team mate which is incredibly useful. The proximity mine isn't powerful even if it's specced for max damage because it only does about half damage to a regular enemy soldier on Bronze difficulty, however it can be spammed constantly and there doesn't appear to be a limit on the number of mines you can have active or it could be a very high limit.
  • Drell Vanguard - A faster but less tougher version of the human Vanguard. Pull is useful for taking off the shields from those enemies carrying riot shields, which makes them easily killed. Cluster grenade is great for softening up enemies before cleaning them up with a shotgun.

How is the matchmaking on 360? I had a group of 3 with just invites set on a public party and it literally took over an hour (and a few games) for anyone to take the 4th spot. Mass Effect is a huge game, so I didn't think filling spots would be that hard.

I had an amazing headshot a little bit ago. Someone on my team threw a Singularity at an enemy right as I was bringing up my sniper rifle. I pulled the trigger and blew the dude's head off while he was upside down.

As of now, I'd have to say that Adept and Infiltrator are tied for my favorite classes.

Wish their was a tutorial on the abilities because I have no idea what I'm doing. The UI is so busy and makes the game confusing

I don't know but the old school lobby system is weird

Takes me less than a minute to get in a random game.

I'm in a full lobby within a minute

Anyone else getting random disconnects right now? Oh well.

The MP is actually super fun. I was left unimpressed by the SP stuff, but I can see myself playing a lot of the MP (Infiltrator for life!).

Yea, I'm really impressed by the speed in which I got a game. Never took long at all. Especially after Twisted Metal...

But I did run into the problem of high level players not wanting to play with me, because I was level 1. Yet I couldnt level because nobody wanted to play with me. Its like Middleschool all over again! *runs off crying*

This mode is fantastic! I am shocked at how much better the AI is compared to ME2. These enemies use tactics, they all use their class powers against you. Plus now there are grenades, both regular and smoke. The combat is so much more active, what an improvement.

This game is going to be a masterpiece.

I've been having a blast with this on the PC. Origin: MykeFlash

My lvl 19 sentinel just tears up groups with biotic explosions, and she can solo Atlases given enough space. I unlocked a ridiculous amount of the burst SMG so I just use that, and don't even bother with tech armor. Biotics come out at a ridiculous rate.

Turrets are still a huge threat if you don't spot them, and I have no idea what to do about phantoms. They seem to constantly block my warps unless I time it just right at the end of their dodge, and they have some sort of deadly ranged attack (maybe shooting your bullets back at you?).

I'm not convinced about the way things unlock in the store, but everything else is great.

Turns out it's pretty much impossible to win the King of the Hill style rounds without your team. The rest of my team was killed and I was holding the point for 3 minutes and it was less than 75% when the time was up.

Wow.

Pleasantly surprised by the multiplayer. Might even renew my Gold sub for this. It's very good; like Gears of War, but fun...

Can't wait to get back to my flat where I actually have decent connection

I find Energy Drain from the salarian infiltrator quite op. It's very spammable, stuns targets and drains shields from centurion/nemesis/phantom in one shot. I dont even use my sniper anymore, just run around with the drain and my phalanx IV(<3 you little gun) shooting fools.

Matchmaking could use some serious improvements.
And dam why are people constantly leaving.

Pc gaf add me on origin:BlackwaterEl1te

Currently polling second in Australia's federal election (first in the Gold Coast), this feral may one day be your Bogan King.
*team dies while I capture the first data packet*
*left alone*
*forced to cloak in and out of buildings, watching my ass for two phantoms*
*take out guys from behind*
*capture the last three data packets all by myself*
*clear the area of bad dudes*
*team revives for next round*

This game.

Its really hard choosing between them, I want to use one or the other for my campaign run but I just cant choose.

Being the last man standing in a round and pulling it off is so exhilarating.

I keep getting DCed from the EA servers all the time. Really, really frustrating, especially since you don't keep any XP when that happens.

Regular internet/XBL has been holding out fine though.

I tried a couple of matches last night with totally random people and it was actually fun, although I expected every man for himself and no revive, other guys were playing as a team.

Also, has anyone from EU tried playing on NA host and vice versa, is it playable?

Every person I show this game to automatically comes to the conclusion that it's just like Gears of War.

No, it is not! Just because it's in third person, has a cover mechanic, and you can roll around doesn't mean it's just like Gears of War.

It's horde mode and enemies can curb stomp you. It's pretty similar.

Sure, there are significant differences. It's class based. There are powers. There's more customization with characters, loadouts, and weapons. And the objectives are more varied. But let's not kid ourselves, Gears is a heavy influence here.

We've gotten some impressions of the various classes from a lot of people. Now I'm curious about weapons and mods. I'll start.

Basic weapons
Avenger: This seems to be a general purpose gun with not a lot of strengths but few if any weaknesses either. Great fire rate, decent damage, good accuracy, especially if you mod it with a stability dampener. With that mod you can fire from cover in full auto and suffer little to no noticeable accuracy bloom.

Predator: General purpose again. Okay damage with a great fire rate but you have to spam the heck out of it. If paired with a scope it can result in some easy headshots.

Shuriken: I am not a fan of this SMG. It is low damage, high recoil, and only fires in six round bursts. If you're close to a enemy you'll generally hit but if aiming from mid range on the recoil can often drag your crosshair from their feet to just over their head in one burst.

Unlockable guns
Mattock: This is a pretty good assault rifle with great accuracy and good damage but has the downside of having fairly low spare ammo. It also usually levels up slower than the Avenger unless you totally avoid recruit packs. Best if paired with a good SMG, but since I haven't actually gotten one and my Avenger is level 5 this weapon isn't often used.

Phalanx: I unlocked this pistol last night and I am in love. Its fire rate is a little slower than the Predator but it is more accurate, stable, and does considerably more damage. I usually kill Cerberus Troopers in three headshots and you can make those shots easily. It is also surprisingly versatile, doing quite a bit of damage to shields and barriers in addition to armor. I played about six games, getting a level 3 version and used it exclusively on my Sentinel, racking up 50-75 pistol kills each game. Even better paired with Throw.

Anyone interested in getting a foursome together for tonight around 9PM or 10PM CST? Level 9 (I think, might be 7) Krogan Soldier here.

I thought MP looked like fun in the videos, but now that I know what Horde mode is all about (yes, I've been living under a rock) I no longer have any real interest in this. Having to figure out where enemies are coming from and where to be in order to not be shot in the back all the time while you're in a live match and a liability to the team is not my idea of fun. I feel really bad for first dying and having to be revived twice, and then quitting mid-match.

I'd be more inclined to dig into this if there was a training mode or easier single player Horde mode where you could learn the maps and improve your skills without ruining the experience for 3 other people.

I'm sure this mode is good, but I don't think it's for me, and I really hope that not touching it doesn't have a significant impact on campaign "readiness".

Try it before dismissing it. If you're worried about disappointing your teammates, then try it alone. It would be a shame to miss out on something you might really enjoy based on extraneous factors not related to the mode itself.

And trust me... dying is quite common and there's *zero* shame in it.

You can try it alone but your fears are unfounded, everyone dies a lot and is a liability when they first start playing just about any game, after a bit you will get used to it. You arent going to annoy anyone except idiots and kids by being the new guy.

The only teammates I've felt that ruined the experience were the ones who weren't very good and, most importantly, didn't play as a team. If you stick together with your team, it's much easier for everyone involved, as you can be easily revived if you are downed.

Thanks for this, was wondering if someone was going to make a Meta tag for Live players, makes things so much easier to manage.

I got lost in my multiplayer session last night and realized how much fun it is and just having that added level of Mass Effect power skillset made it a blast. Love being a Vanguard and Biotic Charge.

This'll probably be a game I want to double dip. I'll play it on 360 first just to complete the trilogy there, but will be nice to have it on pc as well.

Thanks for doing this, this'll help get some good games together with GAF :) God this random chest gods are hating me, opened 9 veterans so far and no dice while my two friends both got 2 back to back last night (Asari adept and drell vanguard for 1 and quarian engineer and salarian infiltrator for the other :/). All i get are shotgun mods...

Vanguard'ing feels even better. Roll into a group, Nova, charge some dude, whack them around and roll out.

I'll be on in 20 minutes for some games.

blah...moving today/tomorrow and all I want to do is play this...I think its really start to irritate my wife and the real game isn't even out yet...i'm in trouble lol.

Anyone know if the collector's edition stuff/preorder stuff affects multiplayer in any way? I was going to cancel my collector's edition after trying out the single player but the multi is making me question that decision
