New Pokemon Game to be announced next week?

Junichii might be trying to upend the tea table on the Smash! viewers, if his Twitter is anything to go by. A surprise announcement that may have been hinted already would be real cool.

Here's hoping.

I like to look at gen III and think I just didn't enjoy it as much as the others, rather than it being staight up "bad". I would never say it sucked, but it did drop the ball on some things.

Too many water routes, no day/night cycle, and the complete lack of postgame content (fixed in Emerald) are my big complaints of III, and the only ones I really feel are legitimate. And even then, the third gen was a reboot for the series and laid the foundation down for the next ten+ years of the series. It was a change, and people don't like change. There were a lot of things that rubbed people the wrong way about gen III.

Even so, the hate gen III gets is really unwarented. It really is the same game as the ones that came before and after it. If you liked one of those, then you probably liked gen III somewhere down the line.

This thread made me realize I never finished Black.

I booted it up and got in 3 random battles with my first 3 movements. Now I remember why I quit. That and seeing nothing but wild Boldore and Swoobat all day every day.

But Swoobat isn't catchable in the wild! Caves are notoriously bad in B/W though. Almost like real dungeons for a change.

I'm so excited, I always just need a main game to get me back into the jumble of things. I haven't played BW since March of last year pretty much. I originally imported White back when it came out in Japan in 2010, and then bought Black at launch in the US.

no day/night cycle
Lack of time-based events is a plus, not a negative. I've worked night shifts more often than not for the past several years, am up at weird hours, and have other obligations. Having to fuck around with my DS clock in order to catch specific Pokemon and obtain specific items (and thus locking me out of some content until another day passes) is something I'd happily get rid of if I could. Any step taken that prevents me from playing the game on my own terms is a step backward.

Ready for disappointment.
It probably won't be for DS though, it's getting PKMNxNobunaga soon.

No, as far as I'm concerned, it's a gameplay mechanic that added to the overall game. What they should've done was tweak the system so situations like yours wouldn't affect how you play (Gen V somewhat fixed this by taking out time specific Pokemon). Taking it out at that point was a step backwards.

I bet you loathe Animal Crossing.

I doubt I'll ever play it. So you're probably right.

Keeping discussion of news/rumors to insular 'megathreads' is generally frowned upon here on GAF. I've seen multiple megathreads get closed when their members didn't post new threads for important news or rumors.
His point is probably that we've moved beyond that to general series discussion now.

Hope it's a new Grey with exclusive material as a 3DS exclusive not an exact port of Black/White with a different story. A return to Gold/Silver where a second region to explore and plough through would be welcome as well if the standard Black/White story was unchanged.

Gamefreak needs a return to the 16 badge game. :(
While the evolutionary mechanics of Black/White were good, a more revolutionary type of game would be better in the same vein as Gold/Silver were. Pokemon is a favourite series for me but the ambition was lost but Black/White was a good attempt.
Grey could amend that.

EDIT: Gym leaders in order of appearance.

While I love the sprites I would have to admit that it looks cool with the 3D models as well. But I want the Pokémon to be able to show emotion if they are gonna go that far.

Watch them pull something like sprites in the overworld but 3D battles...

Not a fan of the 3d models either. The opening to the Black & White anime :( yuck (not that it's an indicative of the games looking like that)

there's no point to release another "mainline" title for the DS IMO.
3DS is here and Game Freak needs to support this platform now, just as Nintendo wants them to do.

Why?

In the end, both parties are interested in making money and there's more potential to sell copies on the original DS. It's not like they'd be excluding 3DS owners by releasing it there, either.

If this is indeed a 'third title' to BW, it would make sense to put it on the DS and save the first 3DS main series title for the next generation of Pokémon games.

I dunno. This was absolutely true when BW released but it's very likely the 3DS will be pushing 30-35 million units by the time the third game is released everywhere, and the DS will be a full two years removed from relevance. Under those circumstances, a 3DS platform target is totally reasonable.

Yes, it definitely would. But Nintendo doesn't own the handheld market now than it did before. With the iOS/Android/Mobile gaming putting pressure on Nintendo and along with the slow death of the DS, I don't see why Nintendo won't push Game Freak into making new mainline Pokemon titles for the 3DS.

Mobile gaming is putting pressure on Nintendo? That sure is news to me...

Last I read, the 3DS is outpacing the DS in terms of first-year sales. The only reason the DS is slowly dying is because publishers aren't putting out games for it anymore.
